Sorry. But your forgetting Dream Theater, Tesseract, Modem Day Babylon, Vola, Vitalism, Arch Echo, and Voices From The Fuselage just to name a few.

Dream Theater isn't "modern" prog, they're classic era. Judas Priest still makes records but hardly anyone would call their style modern metal. Tesseract are obviously great BUT they're sort of a one-trick-pony. The variety in and evolution of their sound doesn't stack up to what The contortionist has done. Same can be said for Vola. How you put MDB and Vitalism in the same conversation as The Contortionist is troubling to me. Yes these groups are talented but their output is just a few wanky EPs show casing their virtuosity. Neither of those groups have crafted ambitious prog epic records like the Contortionist.

The composition, layering, killer vocals, time changes, musicianship, literally all of it is as close to perfect as it can get for me. I watched these guys blow Periphery off the stage at the music farm years ago. I think at the time I had only heard Exo Planet. My god they kicked ass. My then girlfriend at the time, who is now my wife - had got us VIP tickets from the radio and we got to hang out with these guys after their set. I actually could not believe how polite they were. What a great memory!
