I notice Americans are all hung up on gears as if they are modes. Maybe it’s because they are conditioned with automatic cars. I never ponder over what gear I’m in. Could not care less. I care about revs(sound) and current speed. Nice bike and nice vid. Enjoyed listening to the exited new owner.

Your comment re quick shifter is spot on. My 17 S1000R has a QS, which ceased working when a micro switch failed and doing without QS for a week or so was a PITB. That said, I do deliberately do rides where I do not use QS just to keep those skills current

I actually tend to quick shift and manually shift on each ride. I have the 23 MT 10. It’s such a good clutch and transmission and quick shifter that I like using both. A lot of times I’ll find myself manually up shifting but then quit shipping down through the gears or vice versa. I mix it up, but I tend to use both on each ride.

I've owned mine since May. The only complaint is the seat. Not comfortable after and hour or so. But an easy fix w/ the aftermarket. And getting used to the CP3 off the line... I'm used to 4 cyl. bikes and you need to rev the 3, a little higher to get started. Not a complaint, just an observation. All that said, I'm very happy w/ the XSR900! It inspires confidence and is really fun to ride! Great video, on a truly great bike!

Just got mine.. noticed the same. It's mostly the characteristics of the slipper clutch.. the slipper clutch is an lossier analog of the torque converter.. there is some torque multiplication by slipping the clutch, the larger the slip (RPM drop), the larger the multiplier. A proper slipper wet clutch loves being slipped. Facilitates a more useful 1st gear ratio. Love it!!

17:50 it’s right there in the name, XSr 900. I’m currently on a 2023MT 10 and I love it. It’s completely excessive but that’s one of the things I love about it. I also had a 1979XS 1100 back in the day. That bike was insane. and I did test ride the new XSR 900 and I really liked it a lot. But I’m definitely staying with my MT 10. I love the CP four engine and of course all of the R1 goodies with the electronics package and quick up and down shifter of my MT 10

I really enjoy the MT10 as well but it has such a short wheelbase and I'm not much of a wheelie guy. I Love acceleration up to about 90 mph, but in the lower gears, If you give it full throttle at the power band, the mt10 just shoots right up in the air

Ya, I didn't do the full break in period when I bought the 2005 FZ-1 off the floor with .5 a mile on it. Traded it in with 97,500 miles on it in 2015 for the FJ-09. Yes we should break in gently, but of course Yamahas logo is tuning forks for a reason.🤜🤛 Definitely looking at getting an XSR900 as I sold the FJ do to the seat was like a plank and with back surgeries, wasn't the most comfortable. Then I shattered my ankle and was not being able to get my longer runs in. Now I'm starting to have withdrawals. It really helped with my PTSD. I also take care of my 92 year young Grandmother, am disabled and work 2 nights a week. So I don't go crazy. After selling my bike needed something to do so i went nuts on Hobby Grade RC'S that hit 0-70 in 3 sec, or 100mph in 6 sec. But at heart am a photographer, graphic artist and a rider. I miss taking my camera and the bike and be one with nature. Time to start selling the RC's, which one is $1000 by itself. Sell the RC's and get about $3000 for the collection I started during covid. Then save up till winter when they are trying to get the bikes off the the floor because they pay for them to sit there until sold. Sorry probably not a story you wanted to hear, but just talking to a fellow rider about it gets it out of my system. And to hear your smile and giggle, takes me back. Ty hopefully when they're making room for the 2023 models and needing to move the leftovers, I'll go to my friendly dealer and make a deal. When I bought the FJ-09, I did the same thing and paid $9400 (before trade in was talked about) for it and not the sticker price. They'll tell you they can't lower the price, but they can. Lol
@TheCoolestCourier
@TheCoolestCourier Жыл бұрын
I hope everything works out, thanks for sharing your story. I love hearing stuff like that and talking to people. I really am loving the bike but with the slightly aggressive position and hard seat it's not the most comfortable. I would say you should sit on one in a dealership but they usually don't have them just hanging around like that.

@@nurzrachit7133 I just lost all interest in my hobbies. I can never ride again as my brain won't let me get back on one. Lost my grandmother I took care of the last 18 years to cancer in July. Riding home in August, hit a split about 4" wide with a lip in the highway that put my front tire in a death wobble in a curve slamming to the asphalt at 60 knowing me out and came too trying to stand up only to realize I was grinding fingers trying to stop sliding not standing up. My hand was stuck I front of my helmet as I watched my glove like it was in a cheese grater and then my finger on my palm being shredded apart. I guess 29 years of riding was enough. My mind and body can't take that again. And my motorcycle had been the safest vehicle I ever owned. First week I could drive the car after, got up the street and said NOPE, turned around and went home. Scared me to even be on the road. Severe concussion passing out at least once a day and the only reason I would come to is I stopped breathing. At E.R all they did was sow up lacerations on shin with x-ray, say nothing we can do about finger but x-ray anyway and sent home. No neck brace in ambulance, helmet was removed at scene, and no x-rays on neck, spine with hardware already in, no x-ray on ankle had several surgeries on and the had record of that as it was in their hospital. No protocol followed. And still have pressure on the side of head knocked out on. And don't get a Fly Racing helmet. The crown pads ok but around ears and rest is like foam brick. No give whatsoever. And all proff from me and police report was not my fault and caused by a gap in highway and not lit area right as you begin the lean for the curve. But every attorney says "we don't know who to go after but you have a case just keep trying. Really stop saying I have a case if you're an attorney and don't know who to go after. I can tell you who. And the ones that could help are against their interest as they do charity work for the state. 🙄🤨😤😠😡🤬. But guarantee it I hit the guardrail and lived they would have come after me for the damage to their property.

I was really surprised how much easier it is to get on/off than the xsr700... that seat hump is actually in the right spot to hold me, but I would still like a flat seat for most of the time.
@TheCoolestCourier
@TheCoolestCourier Жыл бұрын
The seat is a little firm but it's not too bad. I just wish it was a upright seating position like a Supermoto.
@Actionlutz
@Actionlutz Жыл бұрын
@@TheCoolestCourier I've owned a 2019 MT-09 which has that upright seating position. In my opinion this is not suited for a bike with an engine like that. You have to lean forward every time you accelerate to not fly off the back of the bike. I have been in so many situations where I was sitting upright, then hitting some bump on the street which intitiated a little bit of throttle that catapulted me forward, barely holding on. I am glad they now have this bike with a slightly forward position, if you really want upright you can still get the MT-09.
@TheCoolestCourier
@TheCoolestCourier Жыл бұрын
Honestly thanks for giving me that perspective. With this position I do have to say I have never felt more stable and control over a bike with this much power. And it does seem like it suits it very well. A truly sporty bike has to have some compromises I suppose. It's not too bad I can still ride for about 2 hours if I have to

Beautiful bike, am on vacation in Paris these days, wow you see many motorcycles, scooters of course, but a lot of big bikes, this and especially the t700 are very popular also a lot of European bikes like Triumph and BMW. There is a street in the middle of town where all the big dealers are, very cool street tao wander, also everyone rides from one stop light to the next like crazy, does not seam to be any policing concerning that, a lot of the bikes are very loud with aftermarket exhausts, seam normal here. 900 all day long, the brakes and suspension are way better than the 700, I was riding an MT07 before I bought the XSR900 and the throttle on this is so much better, with the CP2 setup it seems like it's either all or nothing, and on the 900 you get all the rider aids
@TheCoolestCourier
@TheCoolestCourier Жыл бұрын
The xsr 900 is more fun overall and objectively better at a lot of things but I think something to consider is the mto9 has only been this good recently since the 2021 update. Versus the mto7 and xsr 700 have always been great so if you live in a dense area where you are doing a lot of City riding the move might be to get a used cp2 bike with an exhaust already on it for a much much lower price than a new 900. It will be half the price. The 900 is awesome, but it's not double as awesome. I think the biggest factor is experience level and if you have roads to take advantage of the power. On my xsr 700 I found myself accidentally going 0 to 70 from stop lights which isn't a huge deal. You definitely need more restraint on the 900 because I find myself going zero to 90 in the blink of an eye

Hi, nice video. How is the comfort ?. Is it comfortable for long rides (3-4 hours) ?, Is is comfortable for the passenger ?. Thanks. I am trying to decide what bike to buy. Problem is, many local dealers do not have stock available (no XSR 900, no BMW R nine T, no Kawasaki Z900 RS, no Yamaha MT 09). All I have to decide between is the Triumph Speed Twin 1200, the Ducati Scrambler 1100 Tribute or the Honda CB1000R. Not sure if to wait for the XSR 900 (cheaper, lighter and well equipped), or go with one of the other three. Another problem is that Honda and Ducati have no test bike for the CB1000R or the Scrambler 1100. I could test the Speed Twin 1200 and the Yamaha MT09 (but not the XSR 900).
@TheCoolestCourier
@TheCoolestCourier Жыл бұрын
The bike is comfortable for 2 hour rides. At the 2-hour Mark you start noticing the seat is a little thin and the forward position is slightly less comfortable than fully upright. Out of all the bikes you mentioned the mto9 and the xsr 900 are going to be the most fun by far. But if not Yamaha I think the Triumph and the Ducati are good bikes as well just a little more chill of a riding experience.

These bikes need 200 miles. Heat cycle is all it needs. Some people are just naturally obsessive. But pull both motors apart after 6k miles. You won't know which has the slow break in. Oil, quality glass and how you ride will make a much larger difference. Over revving, (holding on the green limit) holding a lower gear, etc.

There isn't some kind of throttle or traction control mode that allows you relatively high RPMs without highsiding yourself to the moon? I've always found that relatively high RPMs with relatively low throttle openings to be lot safer than having a throttle that you have to move so much in order to close it.

It's really hard to say. In my area I know all of the roads really well and on the huge ones I Scout up and down the road to see if cops are sitting before I do big first and second gear pulls on the bike. And I also have great canyon roads only 5 minutes from my house which are not patrolled by cops. The deeper you go the more desolate of an area it is. It's easy to be smart about it. You can't really do big pulls in city streets anyway, you'll just be whizzing by cars way too fast. But just like my XSR 700 it is easy to travel 20 mph above the speed limit on accident when cruising

Great bike. While it is impacting the bikes in small ways like this. Overall the newly redesigned mto9 and xsr900 are absolutely mind blowing. I can't believe that they can make a bike with this fit and finish, and up and down quickshifter, and this much character in the motor for 10k. I think it's the greatest bike ever made at that price point. When I show up to bike meets with guys and their Ducati panigale's and BMW S1000 RR's I can't believe how expensive they are. Pretty much the price of a car. And for the street I wouldn't want anything more. I think 0 to 100 mph this is the most fun platform to have

It's not, First and second gear are restricted to 75% power at full throttle from the factory, do a roll on in 3rd and you'll find out. Geez dude that's really pushing it, I would definitely take a few Advanced courses like yamaha's Champ School or anything similar to that. The bike is extremely easy and friendly to ride on the settings you're talking about but the danger is when you want to see how it's really meant to be ridden and you take those Rider AIDS off. If you don't know what you're doing there are many things that could go wrong with that. Braking distances are different with a faster bike and trying to go quick in the city you better have some good reaction time. Things come at you really quick versus a scooter. Just be careful, learn as you go, watch some KZbin videos on techniques. I recommend MotoJitsu. But other than that congratulations and enjoy.
