I have a MT09 SP, no question the XSR looks better but I have a more comfy seat and upright seating position so better for commuting, touring. Either bike or even the Tracer is a gem with the frame, engine and quick shifter.

20 years on either would leave you looking like a moroccan tailor (hunched over with bent spine). Get those handlebars 2 inches higher for gosh sake! I own one and it really chaps my ass how i have to lean forward on it with its flimsy light thin handlebars that want to dance like the devil. Rake is too short unless for the racetrack or super smooth roads, as are most modern neo cafe 'kill millennials' bikes these days. Thai roads have waves in them and little bumps and snakelines, mudfalls, floods.. But they sell these type of neo sports and heritage sports 17" front wheelers like the xsr and the mt to kids in the thousands here, and many are dying due to the fact that the bikes are not made for Thai roads. The XSR is getting too much hype on youtube (paid probably some of it), and to be honest, from the 6 bikes i own, its the one i feel is the flimsiest, and least safe, and the lack of a partition in the gas tank is a serious flaw to the central balance of the bike due to the4 flow of the petrol from left to right side of tank when half full, unbalancing the bike. I have spent most of my life on the back of a motorcycle (since age ten i am now fifty eight), and i do not feel safe on an XSR, which means, it is not safe

Great review! I just picked the same motorcycle up a week ago. I had a 2016 years ago and I must say the improvements on the 2022 stand out. Great engine and the quick shifter is butter. To my understanding blue will be the only color available in 2023. For those who are looking to pickup a black one, check it out in person. It has flake in the paint and really pops in the sunlight.

Until this review, 1 of many I have watched before I gave up and bought my 2022 street tripler R, none of them spoke of the adjsutable front suspension or cruise control or if they did I must have missed it. I would have bought the 2022 even though I would have had to travel +/- 500 miles here in the states from where I live to get one due to local dealers not having any delivered. Thanks for your review, yours are the best as always.

I’m 5’8 so the seat height appeals in terms of being able to reach the ground in traffic. Also like the way the bike develops its power and throttle smoothness- not something you find on every euro 5 compliant bike. I would prefer a bikini fairing that offers more wind protection. A bike I’d be happy to own.

Great review. I have a 2016 60th Anniversary XSR and it is a superb motorcycle. I have added well over £3k of accessories, including Ohlins suspension and an amazing LED headlight which improves the riding experience. I am lucky enough to have two other motorcycles (a BMW R1250 GS & Triumph Speed Triple 1200 )and can honestly say the XSR is my favourite 👍

Good review of a brilliant bike. I've got the blue version that i think looks so much better than the black. I find that the tank range isn't a problem as if you were planning loong motorway trips you wouldn't buy this bike, this is for fun not touring. I do find it odd that lots of the comments say its a very fast bike and super powerful, I don't feel that at all when i ride it, the power is very smooth and controllable and you only go as fast as your right wrist makes you. It tops out at 140mph ish so not a hype fast bike. Either way i'm very glad i brought mine.

Great video. I was already going to order one of these by the end of the week, and your video answered the final few minor questions I had. As an interesting side-note, I'm a very short man at 5ft 3 and while I can't flat-foot both feet, I can still easily flat-foot one of them, or sit upright on the balls of my feet. I'm so thankful for this era of 810mm seat heights haha.

Lots of complaints about the tiny TFT on these and the MT09. Next years MT 07 gets a 5" colour TFT so I expect Yamaha to fit that one to the following years MT 09 and XSR. Fuel tank is too small as well. The seat I would throw away and fit a flatter after market one. Other than that it's a great bike but I will stick with my 2022 Aprilia Tuono 1100 V4 thankyou [it's the best bike I have ever ridden and I have been riding since 1978].

hi Mark, I have a question about the brakes, I recently rode an xsr900 and when I pull on the front brake lever(even very softly) there is an initial grab or bite that I found odd never having come across it on any of my other bikes, is that normal for this bike ? regards David

Hi David I've ridden many bikes and the bite point is always different on every bike some grab instantly others not so Nothing to worry about here :) Best wishes mark

Not good looking in black as it emphasises that chunky frame, but looks a really nice all purpose bike. Riding / comfort - how does this compare to the mt09?

It doesn't look as striking in this colour. The blue one with the gold wheels looks better. I've come round to not minding the seat hump. The rear foot pegs are off the original MT, the 01. Six degrees. I've forgotten what that feels like. If it gets below 20, I feel chilly. Great bike and review.

A decent review but personally I preferred the looks of its predecessor. I don't get how you can tell about hunting/ surging while travelling at 30mph in D2 and 2nd or 3rd gear? With Euro 5&6 the issue is the fuel cut off on stop starts. You'd also already stated it was too snatchy in D1

Hi I meant d1 was very sharp / Instant throttle....I prefer the softer d2 mode ....when riding at partial throttle at low speeds you can feel if the fueling isn't quite right but this is spot on Best regards mark

Nice review of what seems like a very decent bike. Much prefer it to it's MT sibling in terms of looks & style but it's still not a great looking bike imo. Although it does look much better in the black than the blue & it would be even better with the gold forks & wheels too.

As a first gen owner, I was really looking forward to the update….but other than cruise, it just doesn’t work for me. I love Yamaha, have two right now, just sold my mt10. I may have to look elsewhere for the next fun bike. Perhaps the new triumph street rs, in red. Ooh. Nice review 👍🇨🇦🤪

Hey Mark, I'd like yout opinion. I'm getting my 1st bike next spring and I was thinking about this bike. The previous Gen is a bit suicidal, but this one has the power modes, that theoretically tame the bike to a 650 naked category, do you think it would be too much for somebody like me? I'm 33, 1,84m, 110 kg. I know how to respect power, I've had a couple of fast cars in the past, that's why I was thinking maybe I could get away with this one. I know there are other options out there, but I really like the way the xsr900 looks and sounds.

Got to agree with Mako, this bike is a bit of a handful for new rider. May I suggest if you like a nice retro bike and you have a fair budget maybe a Triumph Street twin or Kawasaki z650 both plenty fast enough for a newbie or for an older bike the venerable Suzuki SV 650 v twin

Hey Mark, I need your advice. I have narrowed my almost yearly new bike research to XSR900 and GSX S950, both pre-registered and brand new. Yamaha for £9800, Suzuki for £8500. I don't care about the quick shifter and cruise control ( I don't do Motorways). Which one would you recommend?

Hi Chris well they are both great bikes ...both equally good ...but that's a big difference on the Suzuki for the price ... so I'd say definitely get the gsxs. It's got an awesome engine Best wishes mark

I like its style so much. I wish i can test ride but i dont have this chance in my country. If this bike quite windy i think it would'nt be has enough wind protection with puig or some brands windshield.

Nice one as per normal Mark. I achieve 59mpg on my daily commute with my blue MT09 same engine. The XSR looks better is slightly different as has the standard cruise control which is handy. I saw the XSR both in blue and black at the local dealer and I have to say that the fantastic Yamaha blue is the one for me. The only odd thing with this bike is the gap between the seat and the fuel tank. It looks like they could have made the fuel tank a bit bigger if they closed that gap. I don't know but it looks just weird. Do I think it is £1400 better than my MT09? Tough one. Nevertheless I love my MT09 the engine sounds OK but I still call it the sound of a coffee grinder with my helmet on. 😉

Is the quick shifter blipper jerky at all? I rode a s1000xr and the shifter blipper was so smooth, at a much higher price of course. I am 5’11 with 30 inch inseam. Would this or mt09 fit better? Or neither? I am 207 lbs btw.

I wonder if anyone has fitted that brembo master lever combi to an older XSR900?? Looks great, with added breaking! (Which may or may not be an issue as the older models abs is a little bit intrusive, or I’m overly aggressive 🤷‍♂️)…

This bike has the same problem that 09 675 Triumph Street Triple had. The problem is, it is just too much fun. I didn't have the discipline to keep the motor out of that addictive range when it sounded the best. I wouldn't park it until I reached triple digits. So I guess I'll stick with my MT07.
