The Coral seem really overlooked as a band but most of todays commercially overproduced acts cannot produce the deep or dark sound that I like. You have to search hard or go back a long way to find stuff this good. I'm so glad they've returned and I'm going enjoy tonight's Newcastle gig.

A lot of the bands faded out in the 2000s and it really got bad around 2010 as music took a turn for the worst and now we're left with the shite that they pedal for music with the last 15 to 20 years. The problem with bands is that they need to be consistent with their hits and the Invisible Invasion is where the wheels started to come off. The album is amazing but only two singles were released from it. It was very dark with some very light songs and it produced one of their biggest hits to date "In The Morning." "Something Inside of Me" didn't do that well at all, only getting into the 44th position in the charts. Don't ask me why it didn't do well, maybe that was a sign of guitar music dying out. In The Morning was a very poppy, breezy uplifting song along with "So Long Ago" but the rest of the album was very very dark. It's a stunning album, one of the best I've listened too but the public wanted sugar coated pop music and that's why I think the Coral more or less took a nose dive after the Invisible invasion. They can still command anything from 10 thousand to over 100 thousand likes on their latter songs but they never made it huge. I personally think they should have gone to America sooner rather than later when they were first starting because they were burnt out by the time they got there. Roots and Echo's was another stunning album for me, very retro in places but the singles released were never going to do that well. They left out to many gems like Rebecca You, Remember Me, In The Rain, Cobwebs, Fire Flies and Music at Night are all brilliant tunes. I think they released the weakest songs on the album which saw the album only make it to 18th position. Funnily enough, The Invisible Invasion got to no. 4 in the charts even though only two singles were released. Night Freaks got to no. 7 and M%M got to 10 so Roots and Echos was where they took a nose dive. I think Bill had left the band during the Invisible Invasion and then he joined back again so that kind of messed that album up. The marketing for the band was very poor in my view too, but it is what it is.

I used to know this band only from the song In the morning, but in 2010 I heard a great song "1000 years' and fell in love with... I bought all the records of The Croal. On each of them were cool songs, weaker, and very weak ... I turned out that the two coolest albums, where they were all good songs are the 'Cursed Love' and 'Butterfly House'. The ones where did not play Bill Ryder-Jones. Butterfly House is brilliant, fantastic album, is absolute!!! perhaps the most underrated album of all time. Waiting for the new one. I can not wait.!!!

Great track as usual! Weird seeing James Skelly playing lead guitar but he did well. Lyrics are awesome, I love the line "secrets in the house of lies written in the symbols hidden in plain sight chasing the tail of a dream" - definitely a reference to the Freemasons and other occult secret societies. I like how rhythmical it is, almost like a heavier more psychedelic Don't think you're the first. Can't wait for the album now!
@contesketchup29812 жыл бұрын
Well The Coral are basically druids or devil worshipers who take credit for the songs written by demons. Every band that makes it into the top 10 are all into the occult. I mean they didn't bring out an album called Magic and Medicine for nothing. They are apart of the secret socieity the invisible invasion. They're right in front of us but we don't know it.

Looking forward to hearing what Paul Molloy brings to the other songs. That minimalist rhythm he's doing here sounds easier to play than it really is, so I'm curious as to what he does on the rest of the album. He's got some pretty big shoes to fill: Bill Ryder-Jones' playing was always a band highlight, and Lee Southall really came into his own and out of Bill's shadow on Butterfly House. Was hoping to hear Lee pushing himself further but it looks like you'll have to find his solo stuff for that.

For the last 15 years or so I paddled waters of more experimental/electronic waters. While always trying to keep an ear to the ground of guitar/rock music, I never really found much to make me change paths or at least rekindle old fire. Though I still listen to all 'the old stuff' This is a fucking tune though. Proper great tune. Makes me feel those old forgotten shivers I felt when I heard a great guitar track. Pre-Libertines which was the start of the fucking decline for me. You may disagree. But any way or either way this a classic.

Hmm.. is this one of those where they release album filler as singles (1000 years, Jacqueline), and leave radio gold unheard (In the Rain; Falling All around You)?? The selection of singles shouldnt be left to the band alone! They are too close to the music to have a fresh perspective, and are all too contrarian for their own good! Much love! x
