How To Easily Setup The BEST Reef Tank Auto Feeder | Plank Avast Marine

I own two Plank autofeeders. One for mixed reef, and one for my fowlr tank. both connected to an Apex virtual outlet. I love that I can blend a variety of foods together, including freeze dried, pellet up to 3mm, and even add chopped nori flakes and marine phytoplankton into a single food mix. I did build a Apex 24v relay outlet off the 1-Link that would energize an external 120v power outlet as I didn't want to commit an EB outlet to such a small device.

That sounds great! It really is very versatile and works great. How do you have it programmed with your apex, I imagine you have it come on same time everyday(scheduled) or do you manual turn it on from the fusion app when the tanks need to be fed.

Awesome video of this feeder! I have the a similar euro braced tank - the 120g SCA - and am looking at this feeder. Did you need to upgrade the clamp to their XL version for eurobraced tanks?

Sorry for the late reply. I didn't need the xl, it fit snug. I have an SCA aquarium as well. The XL may give you more wiggle room. Double check the dimensions on the avast website just to be sure. Thank you so much for watching,Glad you liked the video

How do you use this on tanks with a screen over them? Great idea but I don't want to risk my fish jumping for an auto feeder.

That is true, they make plastic feeding covers that can attach to mesh tank lids. Here is an affiliate link to the feeding portal amzn.to/3WYpod4 (paid link) Something like that as long as it's the right size will work, or a custom measured lid.

How does the feeder bit work? Can it handle non-uniform food? What is the minimal amount it can dispense?

Great questions, it uses an auger mechanism that pushes the food out and yes you can use flakes and pellets with the plank 3.5. As far as the minimum, it will push until it's pretty much empty.
