I'm demonstrating the roto-casting process using the Mach1Monkey machine, to make hollow resin casts of light bulbs.
(This may also be a way to make your own hollow vinyl style figures. Play with the resin amounts, to achieve thinner or thicker walls, which will very the flexibility of the object.)

Steady Craftin videos are made with the help of DIRECT SUPPORT: www.patreon.com/steadycraftin (You'll also get access to the printable 3D scans of my original sculpted figures, MP3s, exclusive behind-the-scenes videos, shop discounts, and more.) Y'all, this video didn't end up 100% how I wanted, due to working on two videos at once, and accidentally deleting the last few clips I shot for this video, while working on the NEXT video. BUT I think there's still enough here to get across how roto-casting works. Here are some examples of where you might use this: - Vinyl Style Figures - Helmets (Make a mold of your helmet sculpt, then use the mold to roto-cast the hollow plastic helmet) - Speaker Housings (Or other electronic housings) - Any large object where solid resin would make it too expensive or too heavy.

I think your video was perfect because of the imperfections. The Japanese call it Wabi-Sabi and it is sometimes described as beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete." Perfection is stressful, so don't stress Crafsman, your video has everything needed to share your ideas.

This reminds me of the Snoopy's Mighty Model Maker I had in the early 80s. That would roto cast plaster versions of the Peanuts gang. It was a little messy but worked well.
@xeokym223
@xeokym223 5 жыл бұрын
Oh jeez I remember that. I had a kit, not rotocasting, but you could cast these monsters and animals with some powdered mix stuff it came with. The cool thing was you could swap the heads, torsos and legs around because the molds were interlocking pieces so they snapped together. I almost totally forgot about it...I used to have a little desk next to my dad's workbench and he would mix up some plaster for me to make them after I ran out of the mix stuff. You could add food coloring or paint them afterwards. :)

It might be that you could make that light fitting look kinda broken. As it's a hollow cast, you could take a knife and cut you some jiggardy jaggardy lines and remove some of that shell to make a broken bulb character. It might be that you could see some crazy internal function of said bulb character hidden away inside.
