I live in Wrocław Poland but visit Czech very often just for the beer and beer culture, pub service. It's a different world, even the small towns always have something to offer in terms of classic pubs and small local breweries. Czech is the best beer in he world.

As an addendum to the recommendation for Russian River Brewing (which I very much second), if you really want to hit it at the best possible time, check and see when their limited release of Pliny the YOUNGER is happening and time your trip for then (it's usually in February for a couple of weeks but can sometimes land later in the year). Younger is the stronger brother (uh, son?) beer to Elder with more ingredients and higher ABV. Our beloved west coast double IPA Elder reaches its apotheosis in the sublime Younger (a quad IPA? a west coast IPA barleywine?). It's similar to Dogfish Head's 90 Minute vs. 120 Minute, but Russian River style. The pub will allow you to buy a few bottles of Younger (4 when I went), which is great, but nothing beats the pints you get on fresh draft.

Definitely a better idea than paying $100USD a bottle on the secondary market for them. But what a memorable beer!

I am lucky enough to have done almost everything on this list minus a tour of the Czech... And I will be visiting Russian River later this year for the first time! I learned about the Tour de Geuze from this channel and absolutely loved it! A side note to anyone wanting to take the tour, they do offer transportation in the form of a coach bus that will drive you to a select set of breweries. The cost for the bust is cheap and it lets you relax and enjoy as much beer as you want! I highly recommend it! One last recommendation, if you want Oktoberfest that's a little smaller, cheaper, and easier to get into, not to mention a lot less tourists, I would highly recommend the Cannstatter Volksfest in Stuttgart! Same time of year, same idea! Big beer tents, carnival, food, great atmosphere!

Thing is, these beer festivals (which actually are more like harvest festivals) exist throughout Germany and they are all more or less the same. Oktoberfest ist special as it only has beer from Munich but by in large as a German you do not feel the hype because it is just one of many (and there is better beer in other places, though Munich beer, especially Schneider, is great).

West to East; through each country on your chosen route; & perhaps in famous brewing countries (e.g, UK, Belgium, Germany….do each geographical region within that country as you traverse a route)…any trips over water/oceans to get to the next country must be an exported beer on a historical trade…” Maybe even a massive brewtube collaboration between all of you?

I've not been to Oktoberfest, but I've done Munich. Love the beerhalls. As much as I love the idea of the festival, it also seems like such a madhouse. I do need to do Belgium at some point, and Prague as well. I'm excited to return to the UK next year for the first time since 2010. Not as long a visit as we initially had planned pre-covid, but it's finally happening. I love my bright, hoppy PNW beers. Our fresh-hop IPAs, and our fruit-beers, and huge chocolatey stouts... but I always love trying different style wherever I visit. Sadly, Anheiser-Busch is really predatory when brewers get noticed here, and they'll buy them out and ruin them. You've got to do a run in the PNW though. I know people think that means Seattle and Portland, and there are a ton of great, established brewers in those cities you could do, and really every town around here has a good brewer or two (and some are really special). I'd recommend though... Bellingham, WA where there are, at my last reckoning, 16 craft breweries in a city of about 80,000 people (a couple good cideries too) Favorites here include Kulshan, Wander, Menace, Boundary Bay, and Structures. Bend, OR and this one is east of the mountains in the high desert where the weather is a bit different than you'll usually associate with the PNW. Bend's most known brewers are Deschutes Brewing and 10 Barrel brewing(sadly, 10 barrel was bought by AB-Inbev which ruins it for me), but they are also the home of about a dozen others including Boneyard, Crux, Silver Moon, and Worthy as well as a couple good cideries. Lastly, take a trip up or down the Oregon Coast. There are breweries of note all along the coast, but a few favorites of mine are Fort George Brewing in Astoria, OR Pelican Brewing in Tillamook, OR And the big one... Rogue Brewing in Newport, OR. They have a great restaurant, a great tour, they farm their own hops, their own fruit and herbs, they even have added a distillery as well. If this seems like a lot of recommendations, then trust me... I've got loads more.

In Madrid visit Chinaski Lavapies a bar with and amazing list of beers. In Barcelona i tried some local beer but the best was the two bars of Garage Beer. In Paris i tried Paname Brewing because they were close to my hostel, they have decent beers and a little shop called BEER paris who have a great selection of cans. Then in London i visit the Griffin Brewery and i did the tour, plus i visit the Bermondsey beer mile, loved it jaja Anspach & Hobday, Unit 73 of Cloudwater, The Kernel and i drink all the Guinnes and London Black that i could jajja and for last visited The Experiment (Pressure Drop/Verdant). In Brussel visited some bars but nothing special honestly i am not a fan of some belgium styles but i love some trappist beer, Orval and saisons (: Amsterdam was a huge surprise, besides London, the best place during my trip. Here i visited the morebeer at mikkeller and the beer temple, in the fist one i drink maybe the best russian imperial stout i ever tried and in the second was full of surprises like The Veil, Dogfish Head, one amazing imperial porter with coffe that i tried and lots of american craft brewerys but there was a little shop called J&B craft drink were i find The Alchemist, Tree House, Hillfarm, KCBC, Roots & Branches and another great beers, personally was a dream finally drink that's beers. In Berlin drink some local beers and visited a bar called Biererei, incredible little place, they have monkish, perennial, hopfrog, the veil, firestone, side project, etc... For finish, in Prague drinks a lot of pilsner urquell and another great czech beers and that is. Was a trip with lots of beers, i trid some of the brewerys that i hope to drink some day so was a beautiful trip. Hope that my experience and information lead others to drink amazing beers and travel to get it jjaja. One question guys, do you plan to go to MBCC 2024? Cheers.

Oof never been to Chicago? Originators of barrel aging?! 8.5+ pale ale on a hot day cannot be beaten, so quenching and chuggable w/o being too bitter😊
@TheCraftBeerChannel
@TheCraftBeerChannel Жыл бұрын
We are just back from there! But they definitely did not invent barrel-ageing, just barrel -aged stout. Some amazing big IPAs from the breweries there but really Chicago is about the lager! Some fantastic stuff being made there.

@TheCraftBeerChannel yes BOURBON barrel aging! Improving the lager has been the latest trend after the hazy neipa fad. East has the sweet juicy ipa, West has the bitter strong, midwest has the balanced American pale ale. Every highly established brewery here has their signature APA that put them on the map! Iykyk😅

Who was the originator of barrel aging beers? Greg hall of Chicago's goose island. Known fact, didn't mean we invented the process all in all... for the topic of beer on here: YES.

Fun fact about Chicago is that it also has the most breweries amongst other cities in the US! Looking forward to your first experience video here, hope you cover the craft brewery history scene here from the early 90s.

I wonder why you haven't mentioned Bangalore (now Bengaluru) in India. The city has the highest number of microbreweries, some are pretty impressive (Toit, Pump House, Big Brewsky, Xoox etc. etc.)

Biased as hell, but a day drinking 10 pints of Guinness in some of the glorious pubs in Dublin is as good a day's drinking as any. Grogans, Donoghues, The Long Hall, Palace Bar, Hartigans etc. I could sit in Kavanaghs (Gravediggers) for hours and hours drinking creamy pints and talking to anyone and everyone. Guinness is far from the best stout out there but it is very delicious drinking in some of these pubs.

I still have a zillion spots to visit, but time and distance has limited me to mostly just great beer cities around the US. Ive now been to the most of the biggest beer cities of the US Midwest to the middle East Coast to a lot of the South and even many of the smaller enclaves that seem to be somewhat passed over when people talk about the various "meccas" of beer. To be honest, going to Belgium or Germany just for beer tourism for an American is not an easy task if you want to do it correctly and is 100% a once in a lifetime event. I can fully afford the trip but its not exactly a financially responsible spend when I need to do it for at least 2 weeks to get the full experience. A good long weekend (4-5 days) in a US city I havnt been to with friends usually cost me less than $400 while even the least expensive one week trips to Europe come out at more than $1500 and up to 2 days are wasted in airports. Sadly(?), Im too financially responsible.

Definitely Tour de Geuze. Went to Cantillion but I really gotta visit all the others. Then the Czech Republic. I also really want to visit Brazil. Their beer scene shold be enourmous with more than 3.000 breweries (perhaps a subject for a future episode?). Already did the Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen, and the danish beer enthusiasts beer festival. Both are good, but the latter is so much more relaxed and fun. And a lot cheaper...

Yeah we purposefully didn't put beer festivals in (save for Oktoberfest, if that counts) because people's preferences vary so wildly! We'd love to get to Brazil for many, many episodes and hope to one day.
