When I started watching the channel, I genuinely had no clue just how much there is to know about beer. Please keep the history content coming, in any form at all! I love these videos because it's simple and feels like you're listening to an enthusiastic mate with a fact to share 😂

Of all the stories you have shared so far, this is the biggest impact to beer’s influence on the world and I dare say, there might not be a bigger one. As a homebrewer who is lucky enough to work in the pharmaceutical industry, the links between modern medicine and modern brewing are far deeper than you would imagine. We have irradicated diseases and have saved the lives of countless people traced back to the discoveries discussed in this video. A big thank you to beer is deserved!

great to know! I expand on this story quite a bit in the book, as well as digging into some of the things I think you're referring to around production of antimalarials, insulin, cancer research etc. It's an incredible connection!

Nicely done, I cannot imagine the amount of time it has taken over the years to gather and verify all of this information. Such an interesting set of videos. Looking forward to getting hold of a copy of the book & the next video instalment in the series. Which I shall read while sampling home brew. Keep up the great work! Cheers

Haha it's been a wild ride over the last 3 years - so much information and so much to dig through but I've loved every second, and it's genuinely changed my understand of both history and beer.

My great-uncle was a sales rep for Carlsberg. I inherited his beer collection so I've got a lot of Carlsberg beers ranging from 1930s to 1970s. I don't think I could get any viable yeast from them though!

Haha but I bet the branding is very cool on some of the older ones! I got to explore the Carlsberg bottle library and it's insane!

Beer history is the best history 👌

You and Brad look like you drank the same amount of Carlsberg as the Budweiser from your other show!

I was too busy talking to be fair, it's quite a good beer. Certainly compared to Budweiser.

In this day and age I think acid washing of yeast is virtually redundant. Yes it kills bacteria, but is incapable (to the limit of my knowledge) of killing wild yeasts. In my opinion, simple but thorough cleaning regimes are a much better way of ensuring no bacterial or yeast infection.

It is indeed incapable of killing wild yeast - the story of how that was discovered is coming next week with the isolation of yeast at Carlsberg!
