Even as a toddler when this was my first video game, I was impressed by how they animated Crash to occasionally look behind him and give a look of complete shock and terror while he was running from the boulder/bear, and of course, the music was perfect for setting the dangerous and threatening theme of the chase levels.

Naughty Dog truly did things ahead of time. Characters were expressive unlike your average PS1 character models (due to using vertex animation and not bone animation). Nowadays you never see characters do minor but great attention-to-detail animations nowadays. Thank god they included it in the N. Sane Trilogy.

Crash 2's soundtrack pushed the PS1 to its absolute limits in terms of how complex the sound font can be on a CD based system. I love the N64 to bits... but Crash 2 really showed that the PS1 was one step above when it came to the kind of music it could produce. The Crash Crush theme has the right amount of rock and funk to not just be a great video game track, but musical track in general.

I have to say that the box art for this game is slightly genious because both the main characters are on display but not in the centre, and Cortex is furthest away (its you, then crash, then cortex). It does not seem like a typical game, but like youre about to go on this insane adventure to help Crash beat Cortex. It seems to be telling me "We knew you'd be back, you ready?". Grabbing that PS1 controller as a kid, I'd always have the biggest smile on my face and I'd think "......fuck yeah!"

For me it doesn't have low quality, I think the renewed version could have been a lot better and really emotion-evoking.. when a director wants something created, he goes for it "I want this, with that, some of that , but also with that" it's all about using your resources to their full potential, and the renewed version isn't much impressive as this one which is very old.

I love how the first two Crash Dash levels have a boulder like old times, setting up an expectation with a naming scheme (CRASH ___), and making all polar levels a bear pun, so you get to the third one it catches you off guard with a GIANT POLAR BEAR to chase you instead. It even has Polar too, so it still fits the naming scheme.

fun fact you can kill second bear if you run out of the tunnel so the bear gets alerted then slide back in tunnel. the bear will break his neck and then you can navigate the area without him chasing you. p.s. it only works on the second bear
