WOW finally something i can start with! The white paper is dirt cheap now adays and so this will help me finnaly get started with what i was not looking forward tot to do. it may seem easy for some people but to do this with in a budget is not easy! Cardboard can be found all around just as paper. Plaster can be found at the dollar/euro store just like paint. This did help me a lot!

I just started re-creating an HO layout my late Dad and I built many years ago, but this time in N Scale. Your method of making a mountain out of normal easy to obtain materials is awesome! Thank you for your idea and posting.

I/m doing the same. My Dad and I built an HO layout and I’ve always wanted to recreate it. He would have loved it. Some of my fondest memories are of the both of us working on it after dinner. The journey is half the fun, creating it, getting it just right…in fact, I doubt I would ever be finished.

When working with plaster to model landscapes or walls (like the portal). it might help to add color immediately. This way, the plaster wouldn't shine through as white, if it gets scratched later on. If you like to have some shades, you might also try to add additional paint while the plaster is still damp - medieval artists called this technique 'fresco'.

Nice reaction. I'm gonna try this. However I don't use plaster but paper to create hills and mountains but mixing paint with the wet paper might work.

I like your video kid. I made a lot of scenery. I was lucky that my brother worked in a gypsum factory and I got casting plaster by the 20 Kg bag. I never used the Styrofoam because I am in fear of sparks and fire. I did my initial casting using steel fly screen and profiling that as a first layer. It was strong as hell and could withstand someone leaning on it accidentally. I used to cast my tunnel entrances using casting plaster and an aluminium mould. The mould was essentially scribed in a thick aluminium foil. I like what you did though, and I always found making the scenery more fun than playing with the trains.

That was a great video showing how you bring all of your creations together. I am building my own railroad in N scale and have been 3D designing and printing most everything for it. I have even began creating 3D design tutorials. As a matter of fact I'm currently working on a tutorial showing how to 3D design a tunnel portal, and after watching this video you have given me a great idea to see if I can design a detailed interior tunnel portion. Thanks for all of your hard work and wonderfully edited videos.

Another nice one. I can hardly wait to see what is next. I will be interested to see how you make your modelling compound. I guess it would be similar to the one made by Marklin of Sweden. I am probably at about the same stage with my model as you are but I have about 25 metres of track in N gauge. I have been making some dioramas to fit in to the scenery. That has enabled me to work at a bench rather than on the model itself. Good luck.

I just bought a Marklin HO 29185 and are going to make a Norwegian scenery. I dont know if i want to build it in HO or N scale so i will also buy a N scale starter set to see if it is not to small to work with and also how easy it is to get accessories for the this scale. HO has tons of accessories but it also takes up a lot of space. Do you make any accessories with 3D software and 3D print it yourself?
