The 2003 Broadway poster was also designed so that it wouldn't have to redo the artwork everytime the cast changed -- that's part of why parts of the faces are obscured. It's not a value judgment or throwing shade or anything, it's just a great way to have an evergreen poster...and the fan edit was just an homage to that poster! At first I thought maybe it was because they edited her features to change things they didn't like about her face... but the only change I saw was they removed the freckles... and if she really has freckles as an actress and someone is removing parts of you to improve you... I could see how it would offend, but it didn't look like she really has freckles in real life, so those are part of the character not her. They didn't change the size of her nose or lips, or face shape, jaw line, nothing that would seem offensive to me. They just tinted her lips red and turned them into a smirk. I think the reaction was over the top... just like this entire video was a ridiculous response to a response. I have to admit the green lipstick makes her look more like a goblin or alien than a human witch. The red lipstick color is a common way to allude to passion or emotion in theater. Wicked is definitely a story in which you would need to relate to the emotions of the main character and her story. The covering of the eyes would suggest a mystery that you would want to discover. The Wizard of Oz film used every trick in the book to use color to express emotion, magic, allusion and more and the Wicked Witch remained black and white in it. The world was transitioning from black and white filmography to color and it was moving from war and death to new life and rebirth. We will see how this turns out.🙏💕

The green lipstick was a horrendous choice. Red stands out from green, and her lips are supposed to be the primary focus of the image. She's supposed to have a knowing smirk, stirring people's imagination. What we got was, "Here's my face, this is what I look like as a person." It's the kind of photo you take for an autobiography, not a film hiding a mysterious plot.

I drove Eugene Lee for about 10 years before he had surgery and passed away in rehabilitation. Total tragedy, that was a man who took Wicked to a whole new level. I would drive him from Providence RI to Manhattan every Wednesday during snl season, then right after dress rehearsal on Saturday night he would get picked up and drove back to Providence to work on other stage design stuff, he literally owned (and his wife still does) an entire city block you would never guess there's an amazing mansion behind in the heart of the brown university area. He worked the entire time from day ine on SNL and managed to be behind the scenes of some pretty memorable plays and shows etc. A Great man

As a graphic designer, I’ve kept the original Wicked poster as my phone Home Screen for over a decade as a reminder of just how brilliant good design can be. That simple graphic with the relationship between the two central characters turns the original narrative of Glinda and the wicked witch of the west on its head and frames the new perspective perfectly. They are friends, not enemies, and that smirk and whisper says that they are both together in subterfuge and secrecy…they’re allies, and of the same mind. Subtle, clever, genius…no wonder Hollywood didn’t understand it…

These types would explode over things like this but it was in private, where they could throw wine glasses at the wall and nobody knew about it. Now, they whip out their phone and make public posts on the spot. Social media (ironically) is just Todo pulling back the curtain to reveal the sad truth behind the "Great and Powerful."

To the Critical Drinker: That was an EXCELLENT analysis of the original "Wicked" poster graphic. It was thoughtful, insightful and well-presented. The fan-made movie graphic returned mystique and intrigue to Elphaba Thropp that was completely sanitized by the studio's graphic. It's too bad Ms Erivo didn't stop to think about that before going rapid-fire on her Twitter account. The damage is now done, and I wish Universal luck re-marketing "Wicked" against the backlash.

@@bhart3321 Actually, many people were curious about his sexual orientation, specifically after he starred as Dr. Frank Furter in the Rocky Horror Show. Tim Curry has never confirmed or denied whether he is gay or not. He said it is his business and no one else's. Even though there have been rumors of him dating several women such as Marcia Hurwitz (she is a talent manager) because they were spotted together on the red carpet multiple times and later rumored to be dating Marina Drujiko (a Russian model). In both cases it was never confirmed by him. He leads a very private personal life. He could very well be heterosexual, gay, or bisexual, who knows (and like you said, we shouldn't care! Nothing to do with his job or his content of character). But again, I think it's important to note that he never confirmed his sexual orientation. But yes, I agree, his LGBTQ status isn't important, what is important is how good of an actor he is and he also seems like a genuinely good man. He has that on screen presence that makes him hard to ignore....he is a great legend. So sad that he suffered a stroke, but otherwise says he is in good health.
