But they already tried to sack me once over my political opinion, which I voiced on my county's Facebook community group over county government DEI policy with a local progressive woman. I was pulled aside after I got to work that day a few months ago, early Aprl of '24. I was brought before the head manager of the store Kelly. Who I personally know and I went to school with her daughter. I'm a known Trump supporter, and I'm not shy about it. But I simply disassociate my Facebook profile from my workplace so it doesn't reflect on the company. But yes, I got a "strike" because of that. A fellow coworker of mine in the produce department, who is also a Trump supporter, talked to me about it and said, "What you went through about that woman on Facebook was bullshit. That's your personal opinion and your 1st Amendment right to free speech. Kelly has no business putting you on the spot because of that." Kelly was, however, respectful of me as I am towards her. And that's because I maintain a reputation of respect at work, and thus, people trust me. Some regardless of my politics, which is as it should be.

This out of context interpretation is amusing because Guillemot talked so much crap through the years, he became a easy target, a meme machine (similar to Todd Howard). In the end, his response reminds me a great quote, Peter Moore said this "There are no bad games, there are just bad price points" and I agree with that sentiment, if AC Shadows promoted itself as a fantasy game (make it even more blatant, not many people know Assassins Creed went crazy with the super powers, Odin and Loki showed up, Zeus, etc.. the alien stuff escalated. I and many other stopped playing ever since Black Flag, at that period AC was not as crazy as it is nowadays) AND, the most important, readjust the price to $50 or $40, instead of charging full price at launch, that would improve it's PR a lot. You can't really criticize Yasuke not only because of the classic stunt of using "minorities" as a shield, there's also the fantasy factor, so who cares about history (no one will scrutinize the historical elements of the upcoming Indiana Jones for this same exact reason)... and if the game looks subpar and not as polished, whatever, it's 40 bucks at launch, why not give it a chance? But here we are, Ubisoft sells fast food at premium prices and the marketing is disastrous, what do you expect Guillemot?

I'm Portuguese, son of an History teacher. People don't want to acknowledge that Yasuke was just a slave from Angola, that Jesuits brought to Japan. To Nobunaga he was just some exotic pet to flaunt about. A black slave being a samurai is ... an insult, really. As I always say "Carrying pianos doesn't make me a pianist but a mule", it's the same with Yasuke, he might've even carried a katana, but he wouldn't own a single straw in feudal Japan.

Honestly... I'm not upset with the Yasuke situation. It wouldn't be the first time that Ubisoft has taken some extreme liberties with historical figures and, if Yasuke joined the Assassins, it would make sense for his lore (within the game ofc) to be scrubbed away. As for his lack of subtlety... well, that is literally the point of his character. Naoe is the stealthy Assassin, and Yasuke is the brutish warrior, breaking bones and environmental objects in equal measure. He's supposed to be big, loud and imposing. Naoe is the low profile; Yasuke is the high profile. But then, I guess I don't have to care all too much, anyway, seeing as I'll be playing the Assassin character in my Assassin game. Their stuff-ups on the Japanese-cultural-side are, to me, much more significant issues. Though from what I can tell, it seems to mainly be issues on the design front, which can be easily fixed.

I don't know if the creator doesn't know about it, or if he don't want to know because of his own personal agenda: Yasuke isn't a "samurai". First when I heard you will play a tall african samurai, I was shocked too. But the developers did a good job: Yasuke isn't about hiding at all. He's the exotic character that comes in with pure strength and draws attention like a big fucking rainbow elephant everywhere he goes. It's even shown in the video you use, that people stop whatever they do and look sceptical, or even run away in panic. Naoe will be the shinobi like character that's about hiding and you will be able play one character, with the other one being only a side-character. That's a cool concept and reminds me of Assassins Creed Syndicate with Jacob and Evie. @ThatOtherGuyOverThere2 ай бұрын
@@TheBackseaterYT In Revelations, Ezio is one of TWO italian characters in Istanbul, while everyone else was Ottoman, and had a distinct, explained and lore-based reason to be there. Him being an outsider was a core part of that game's story. In Black Flag, the game takes places in the West Indies, the EUROPEAN colonies of the Caribbean, and there's an entire section that has the natives as the predominant population. Edward being a Welsh pirate that sought a better life for himself makes perfect sense in that setting. And Valhalla literally starts in Scandinavia, and a great deal of the game takes place in Nodric-dominated areas of England, so Eivor isn't out of place. Stop defending corporations that don't give a shit about you.

I just don’t understand why companies want to choose the path of most resistance and do stuff they know would piss off gamers. If diversity is so important to them and they really wanted to make a game about a black protagonist, they could’ve shelved shadows and made a game in an African, North and South American, Middle Eastern and maybe even in a European setting, ie places that historically interacted with Africa a lot because of trade and that other *reason* countries were visiting Africa a lot. Instead they’re too lazy and they just wanted the social media brownie points without putting in real effort for diversity You know the situation is dire when Ubisoft delayed the game to polish it when they usually couldn’t give less of a fuck and just release it in a buggy mess.

Since the Templars basically control the world in the present day, they've basically rewritten history to downplay/exclude all accomplishments the Assassins have made throughout the centuries. If Ubisoft just came forth and said "Yeah, Yasuke wasn't a legit samurai IRL, but in the AssCreed universe, he was and the historical records got distorted" they could've salvaged this somewhat. But no, they had to double down on their inaccuracies, arrogantly asserting the inaccuracies are facts, and now they're in a huge ass shit storm they made.
