I'm a 34 year old guy and I cry like a baby every time i hear this song. My grandpa had a farm and was a very hard working man, his love for his wife and family was second to none. They lived in a log cabin he built himself! He was diagnosed with cancer and died a short time later. If I didn't know better I would think Will wrote this song for me and my family. Thank you Will for writing such beautiful and powerful music!

My wife's grandfather was recently admitted to the nursing home after another fall landed him in the hospital. This hits me right in the gut every time that snare hits. Thankful I could share it with her. Bless her heart, her family too.

My husband died in May-this song resonates with me like no other. He called me his bride even after 32 years of marriage.

Unfortunately, we are a dying breed. The commies have now infested our once great nation.

I'd have 2 say growing up on the farm was a great life. I wish I could give my boys(Waylon & William) the freedoms I enjoyed but the times of small time farming are sadly gone. The morales and ethics I learned I will try to install in my children.

I wish I'd seen this earlier, because yeah, I was listening to this yesterday and I started thinking of my Grandfather and I burst into tears. Just, all of the tears, everywhere.

It surely is a nightmare sometimes. But I am closer to living in the wild or on the farm than I was when i wrote the first comment :-) thx for reminding me that I even wrote it :-)

@kickingmule Dear man, you can take everything down to the basics without a lot of words. Bless you for this talent! This was for his dad who died. A tribute to his dad who was a 'poor dirt farmer and good guy' as he says. It is also a tribute to his mother if you hear the last verses.

I grew up in NE Missouri. Not that far from Mr. Whitmore. And if this song isn't played at my funeral....I ain't going.
