On this episode we find out how tough it is to dig the famous Herkimer Diamonds of New York!
There are many ways to dig crystals, but at this location, we are using only hand tools, no machinery is allowed at this site. The Ace of Diamonds.
Thanks to "Buster" for letting us dig and show us the correct procedure for mining these beautiful crystals!

My mom and I went to Herkimer approximately six years ago (I was 16). It was an amazing experience for both of us. Not including the crystals we got from the gift shop, our two days there gave us about 20 or so crystals of various sizes and weights. Not bad for 12 hours of digging! I know this video is older and I just saw this, but that's my story. We live in Vermont so the only notable mining sites we have are our marble/granite quarries.

@Jim Loftus NJ, does not have a complete ban on pain medications. Not does any state. All pain meds can only be 5-10 pills doses with one renewal for that one condition. GPS can not right scripts for certain pain medication. Surgerns can for certain surgeries and again they are limited to a certain amount of days. Only pain management specialists, chemo therapists, and cancer surgeons, and specific condition surgeries where you are hospitalized and under the supervision of the hospital, that can prescribe class 3 pain medication. They mentioned specialists are only dispensed through a national database specifically for that specialist. No handwritten scripts are to be given to the patient for this class of pain medication. In other words, the script is sent directly to the approved pharmacy and only thorough the national database. Your surgeon made the decision not to prescribe you class 3 medication, not a ban. If you were told that, then they were misinformed or it may be a practice-wide policy. There are many different practices that have adopted a policy not to prescribe all pain medications so they can avoid the immense hassle it is for those that do prescribe class 1 or 2 pain medications. It is highly regulated and requires certain certificates and a lot of paperwork for each script written. If you have a legitimate condition requiring a class 3 drug, then your GP can send you to a pain specialist. There you will be required to have had specific tests done and a copy of your file showing a history of said condition. The patient information is reviewed and only then you may be accepted. If you're accepted, you will be subjected to periodic urine tests to check for dosage in your system and the sign for street drugs. (I work in pain specialist practice)

God's beautiful things, right there in the ground........can't deny that!!! great video guys....I'm a new subscriber and my wife and I were getting our backyard ground ready for spring garden planting and I was digging with my shovel and BAAM!! my shovel hit something hard and i just thought it was a normal rock but when we pulled this thing out of the ground, it was HUGE!!! it was a quartz crystal, it weighs probably about 15 to 20 pounds!!! it was huge.......about the size of a football.....my wife loves natural things like rocks and leaves and the animals and just every thing...she's very appreciative of all things God gives us......my wife and i were so ECSTATIC and all happy we found something like that, we are thankful and praised God over His beautiful things of the earth......i told my wife, I'm going to chip a little off and make her a ring....we don't buy diamonds, never have and never will because we believe ALL of God's gems are ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!!!! We will clean it off and have it tested to see what we got! Thanks for your vids - New subscriber

Crystals have a "preferred" shape which they follows because of their mineralogy. Same reason to how pyrite crystals form perfect cubes. That's the simplified reason.

@@TheCrystalCollector Too true! Back breaking to work that table layer. There used to be boulders in the dump area that were 'easy' to split with a cold chisel, wedge, and 20lb sledge. Just pounding a few times with the hammer in the right place would induce a hairline crack. Took a few tries but once there was a crack, cold chisel would make it run and then the wedge did the rest. 10% of the time there'd be a vug exposed, with 1-5 perfect small crystals. Eventually break down the boulder to softball sized rocks and go home with 10-20 diamonds, 1/4"-2" range. I only did day trips to the Middleville mines so that worked for me. There were also mines in Fonda, 45 minutes east, which combined camping and digging. Good times with my daughters when they were young. In 1993 my daughter and I lucked into a pocket at Hickory Hill just removing dirt with a shovel. It was above the frost line so the larger ones were often fractured, but we pulled out hundreds of crystals up to 5"x7", and exhausted oversevles in 2 days so we let some others have the pocket and they took out a whole lot more. Camping was free at Hickory Hill and digging was $1.00 a day free for kids. I guess it is closed now. It was only open to the general public on the 3 holidays (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day).

Its not a lot of work. These people are digging at a tourist trap where they're not allowed to use any real equipment. The one you bought was probably produced by a company that digs with augurs and pneumatic hammers at least, if not full earth moving equipment.

The power in the crystals would be so historic! I would love to hold one directly out of the land so I could feel the vibrations first person! 🥰

I found one once at Crystal Grove (a few miles from Ace of Diamonds). It was a bummer because over a year or so the water drained out / evaporated. it had a small leak somewhere :(

I've been digging for those a few times and found a good inch one once just laying on the ground after a rain. Really fun to do, and it's one of the only things you can dig for in NY

unfortunately NY is number #1 in lawsuits, I cant imagine how much liability insurance would be for letting the public dig.
