What Happened to Andy Schleck? Andy Schleck: Luxembourg's super cycling talent is known for his explosive attacks and climbing prowess. Winning the Tour de France in 2010 and finishing second-place in 2009 among other achievements, he left an indelible mark on the sport before retiring in 2014.
And his rivalry with Alberto Contador is one of the best the cycling world has ever seen.

Andy's climb on the Tourmalet in 2010 and the Galibier in 2011 still remain two of my favorite stages in TDF history. Too bad he couldn't time-trial at a really top level. And its sad that his knee injury ended his pro career.

I understand you're a big fan, but it would be fair to mention that Andy's decline really started after his older brother Frank tested positive and got suspended. After that Andy couldn't get in his top shape anymore... Anyway, thanks for this video, I forgot that Andy was not only riding in TdF but was pretty good in Ardennes classics as well

The Schlecks and that CSC team in 2008-2010 were clearly doping hard. Andys imlrovement from 2009-2010 tdf was insane
@williambardsley7540
@williambardsley7540 Жыл бұрын
This is the correct answer, he was doping hard, brother got banned and he had to stop doping or he would ruin his career and get sued. So he stopped and as a result his performances fell off completely. He went from 2nd 1st 2nd in the tour to no ride 20th dnf, in leige bastone leige he went from 4th 1st 5th 3rd to 50th 41st and dnf. Its the exact profile of a dopper, we was a bang average pro rider who started doping. Id be surprised if he or his brother won anything major clean.
@charlyf9521
@charlyf9521 Жыл бұрын
@@williambardsley7540 he was already dominating all his races as a teenager. So I guess you’re saying he started doping as a toddler. Here is another theory for you - he never got back in shape after his accident. And another one: losing his team mate wouter in 2011 and his accident in 2012 was making him question what risks he still wanted to take. He was always afraid of riding downhill btw Given that you don’t have any evidence my theories are as good as yours

I was more a Cadel Evans fan, (especially in 2011) and I really hated all the CSC Team of 2008 :D as I read it once "Andy Schleck the cyclist died in Grenoble in 2011", it was sadly true he was never totaly the same after that. I really regret a never won a TDF in a normal way. His biggest problem was also his biggest advantage, his brother, he tried too much to help him ( Ventoux 2009 for example) and not trying to win, he was perhaps not a too much killer for this nice video thank you

Lots of athletes from all sports have been criticised by fans for “chasing the money” but any pro athlete is only ever one injury away from never earning another dollar again, very abruptly. And many need ongoing physical therapy for all the injuries they sustained, and specialist medical care isn’t cheap. It’s always a shame when an athlete has to retire early 🙁

seperation from bjarne riis hurt he was so smooth one of those two brothers had Luxemberg National jersey I think just about every year :) People forget he only got a ride because Bjarne asked Frank if he had any siblings knowing how cycling is in the blood as you explained. Bjarne couldnt believe how lucky he got. That pic in thumb from 2013 Galibier attack was legendary but so was Cadels ability to claw him back with no help fro large grou he towed to that stages finish. I think had Bjarne been in his ear he might have got that Tour. Sastre, Frank , rime Fabian that Saxo team was loaded. Great video miss seeing him climb he was great in 2011 tour de suisse I think it was. TT let leipheimer take race from cunego who I also miss!

Andy was lucky to even be in contention in 2011. Stage 2 when he and many others crashed on a wet sketchy decent he was left standing losing many minutes. Fabian Cancelara, believing he was some type of cycling god tried to have peloton sit up and wait, something they werent prepared to do. Fabian went back to refs car telling them the peloton wants to neutralise the stage due to high amount of crashes, he thsn went back to the front and told the other teams the ref has decided to neutralise the race.

Specialized did a promo in 2010. When Andy rode into the yellow jersey, he did so on a bike with my name (and about 99 others) decorating the frame. I thought that he should have re-ridden that bike after he lost the yellow with Chain-gate, just for the good vibes it carried, but maybe better he didn't, since as it stands the only day it was ridden, was a day that the rider earned the yellow jersey. Don't know what happened to the bike in the end.

If they were riding tempo and Andy dropped a chain then you wait. In this case Andy went on the attack and at that point the race is on. Dropped chain or not Contador was justified in pressing the attack and not waiting. The bike is part of the race. Would Lewis Hamilton wait for Verstappen or Alonso if they had a mechanical, no?

Andy Schleck was an incredible cyclist but I think the era he rode in is an era which has been brushed under the carpet because of the rampant cheating culture and fallout. Frank Schelck was banned, Alberto was banned, Lance did an Oprah exclusive, all around this time, and several team directors and coaches mentioned in this video were also implicated and banned. There are 7 TDF's which do not have a winner because almost everyone in the top ten tested positive at one time or another and Andy has a title because the winner that year tested positive. There are so many great cyclists like Andy who will be forgotten because of a terrible culture in cycling and most likely they were all doping. I'm glad to forget about cycling from the late 90's and early 2000's and I feel sorry for the cyclists whose legacy will always be doubted or tarnished.
