I cyclocross there much supportersclans. First the woman ride there race and later the men. SOMME spectators by then have alreddy drunk a lot of beers... And sommetimes somme spectators doing bad things against the atletes. Trowing beer whe the riders passing, trowing mud, and other bad things. Mathieu VDP had to endure a lot from somme spectators. And sommetimes they make the atletes verry angry ! sommetimes atletes who getting tired of this reacting to those trouble makers... Iserbith had to pay 15.000 to the ICC because of that incident ! Iserbit knew he had donne sommething bad and apoligised publicly , sanctioned for 3 races. Paying 15.000 euro is over it ! ! This is much to much !

I know that riders aren't supposed to get involved with spectators, but if a rider punches you after you throw beer at them that's on you.
@mintymilkk2 күн бұрын
Yeah I don't know why this is so controversial. If you break social contract by (effectively) attacking someone, you can't then invoke it to protect yourself - anything goes at that point
@maasro2 күн бұрын
@@mintymilkk It's not controversial at all. The narrator is also completely misrepresenting the "lasting stain" that Groenendael supposidly has from him lashing out (5:53). Typically, if a rider reacts like him (and several others), as long as it's proportional, it's typically the "fans" who are condemned (rightfully so, in most cases). Thankfully, over the past few years, we are seeing a bit of a change, where organisations are starting to search and sanction dangerous, harassing and beer (and other things) throwing "fans", so the cycling athletes don't need to take care of them anymore.

I was lucky to be one of the first 'stateside' to know Greg won TdF in '89. I was at my office awaiting files from VeloNews to typeset when I got the call from my contact who had just taken a call from John Wilcokson, the VeloNews editor who was at the finish line to witness the 8 second win. EXPECT EXTRA PAGES i was told. Was able to read about before most people knew it1. Additionally, at another time later, Greg was making an promotional appearance in Denver. Not only did he autograph several photos for me, he was a true easy going nice guy throughout the entire appearance. Hope he lives a long life, overcomes all his life obstacles. Love to ALL...

every town in america has their local stud racer. Cat 1-2. our local stud raced a criterium in reno with greg in it back in the day. greg used that race as a practice session. he basically played and toyed with the pack. he won that race with one leg.

@The.Nomad.And.His.Dawg.42010 күн бұрын
Good video sir :) I think it's mental you can be threatened t OK be disqualified for wearing the wirng colour shirt, what sort of stupid rule is that haha, i see folks sometimes say cycling is its own worst enemy cause of silly things exactly like that, as someone new to cycling that just seems preposterous. Also the idea a car can carry different bikes for the rider to use at different parts of the stage altho I understand completely the reason for that, for me it kind of takes away from the race, choosing a bike that suits your strengths or helps raise some of your weaknesses and having to use same one all the way makes so kuch more sense as a viewer.

The “problem” with cycling vs other sports is that if you ask anybody about who is the super star from F1, NBA and football they will at least name one from this sports (most probably Ronaldo and that’s why he is so valuable). If you ask about cycling people will not know or reply Remco, because of the gold medal and don’t know who is Pogcar. I’m a triathlon guy and it’s the same…and despite this is a video a about cycling, and triatlhon having cycling , most of the people seeing this video can’t name a top athlete (perhaps a retired one…) If im right press like 😂
