"Cancel Culture" is accountability culture. When someone says or does something so horribly offensive that it shocks half of society, there should be repercussions. If that someone has a job where they have power over others and what they said or did is either likely to cause widespread harm or has definitively already caused harm, they should lose that job. That said, most of the outrage concerning Cancel Culture are the few instances where someone was unfairly treated as a result, but such cases are the outlier and not the norm.

The hilarious thing is that legally, the only one who can decide whether the defendant can testify is the defendant. His counsel can advise him but it's his decision alone whether he takes the stand. The judge is required to make this clear to the defendant in court, it'll be in the transcript.

That said, please remember that in a two party system, a protest vote is functionally a vote for the person you like least. Liberal protest votes put Trump in office last time. I’d highly encourage you to make a compromise on your vote, and protest in a different way, perhaps by going to a protest, or supporting a local politician that better supports your views, even if they don’t have a chance. Both options are bad, but they are not *equally* bad.

I got pulled, once. I’m in Canada. I got a phone call from the Liberal Party (about 3 months into their second government). First time I ever talked to someone on the phone. They called work and wanted to speak to someone at the executive level to answer a few survey questions. I was only 33, and the closest “decision maker” in the office. I can’t remember any of the questions but I remember being surprised how intricate and interesting our quick conversation, went. It took only 3-4 mins. I wish they’d call again. I’d have LOTS to say, now.
