I used to have a drinking problem. I've been sober for 3 years now. The majority of ads on my FB are ads for alcohol. I did everything that I could think of pleading with them to stop showing me those ads in the beginning of my sobriety. It never stopped. So I stopped using FB. I'm literally a part of a small business that is seriously suffering due to this change. The only way we can get our name out there is through ads. Everyone knows about the big businesses already. But small businesses DEPEND on ads for people to know that they even exist! The advertising costs are rising drastically due to not knowing who to send ads to and it will be tough for some small businesses to survive because of it.

I am glad we are mocking/discussing the opt in vs opt out thing. Advertisers have backwards thinking. Businesses exist for people, not people for business. There is a fine line between service and manipulation. Thinking your existence is in everyone's best interest is narcissistic. "WALLE.e" is, IMHO, among the best Sci-Fi films ever - and my list has 2001 and Solaris (the original Russian version). What makes us human is our Earth. In the movie, the humans living in that fully artificial world developed a view of things that was also disconnected from what being human is - while the robot that spent his days packing trash became human. The idea of "educate our kids" is problematic because it implies we can teach the subconscious using reason. That can't be done. Susan Sontag predicted, in the 1980s (I think) that with the popularization of photography a rise of narcissism in society. What really impressed me when digital cameras appeared was how people wanted to see how they looked in the photo right after it was taken - including young kids.

Since then she said work done on her face, and when I see her on Instagram, it looks like a Jessica rabbit cartoon. It breaks my heart hearing these numbers. I’m so grateful this didn’t exist when I was in school which is hard enough. I don’t think teens of any age should be able to have plastic surgery done just because they want to and can afford to. Since when did TD(SD)S do premieres? And for standard segments at that? Or do they think that premieres are the "new tech"? I'll just watch it in two months like I do everything else that gets added to my Watch Later queue...

No one under 18 should be allowed to get plastic surgery; unless it's for medical or life saving reasons. This is becoming a mental sickness. No one is perfect and seeking perfection is a folly within itself. Everybody has something that makes them different and we should learn to love ourselves. The body changes. It is forever changing. Nothing is forever and society should realize this.

If Facebook is no longer free, I can only imagine it will turn to be like only fans, but for old people probably

In the middle of deleting my Facebook. A 30 day process. They will probably keep the data forever stashed somewhere. But it’s one of the best things I’ve done. No Facebook.

Am I the only one who was thrown off by the audience laughing at the end? Sounds so corny after a year of no forced laughter

Want to make a more anime eye? easy. You use black eyeliner. If done correctly your eyes will like 2x their size.

the targeted ads are being used as a form of militant propaganda. Every time I look for boring camping stuff - tents, birding binoculars, coolers, I start seeing all these insane survivalist commando and gun clothing ads.

If you find a Decent Camp Stove, link me I need it for future Renaissance Faires.

To fair survivalist and camping gear kind of go together. It's not a perfect targeted system. It's that message you get from Facebook. Your friend is friends with so and so. You tents? These other tents like people also like this. Would you like to know more?
