The answer to "hey, you'll be ok if you're not doing anything wrong", is that the definition of "wrong" from the ones in charge can change every day. Are you in a union? A book club? The same dance club as someone who might be considered an enemy of the people at the top? Have you ever donated to an environmental organisation, or an organisation that helps refugees? As the world changes around us, it could all be used against you. To quote Andor from memory: "Those who've done nothing wrong have nothing to fear." "I fear your definition of wrong."
@cnj67Ай бұрын
And also, if you care for others, if only the specially targeted try to stay out of the spotlight, they are easier to target. It could be minorities, ... right now it could be a woman wanting an abortion. If they get information from period tracker apps and then also about where her phone is located, she could go down. But if we all close our phones sometimes, or don't use trackers as much ... when there is more resistance , we are protecting people who have suddenly been criminalised or could be so soon. Women and their private bodies already, soon journalists, all those people you (Queenmegaera) just mentioned, and immigrants hunted down by the military, ...

Exactly, as Ronan stated you could be a doctor or other professional who has a “bad actor” as a patient/customer. You could be a relative or neighbor of someone considered to be, to quote Trump, “an enemy within.” Enemies lists always grow, often exponentially.

@joeavreg2254Ай бұрын
I mean, yeah? The US was founded on the idea that a very limited pool of people would ever hold any office. The Revolution was about the vote for men like Washington, not men who actually fought at the front. US presidents have always been immune from their crimes, even when it came to Nixon no one in the establishment wanted him to face any sort of real trial. History has even been heavily edited to make Watergate seem kind of corrupt and wrong when it was the GOP trying to ensure democracy would never happen again. They were trying to create a template to rig that (and all future) elections.

And that's why he is hailed as a national hero by the enlightened crowds, or? John Oliver had an interview with him once, and at the same time, there was a pop vox at hom in the states. Ronan Farrow's work is extremely important as is all the research and work being done by responsible journalists. Spyware affects everyone. Yes. I can turn my phone off every night but, he's right, it goes beyond that into the issue of regulation. It's up to us to protect our rights through the democratic process of rule of law.

One of the things I admire and respect the most about Ronan is how he discusses his work. After his report on Harvey Weinstein was published, he made a conscious effort to highlight and emphasise the courage, bravery, and strength of the women who came forward in every interview he had. Even though he more than deserved to be spotlit for his estimable reporting as an exceptional journalist, he always made sure that the women received the greatest respect and recognition. Considered alone, I believe that makes him one of the most remarkable journalists of our time
Love that show, very much ahead of time. Hard to find on any channels to rewatch.
