I was homeless for 7 years. I am white. The only place I could be without constant harassment and threats to my life was in an area that is above 90% black. So I was living in the bushes in what many would call "the hood". The things I saw happen changed me profoundly. I do not mean criminal activity though that was present as well but not more so than living in any lower income area. What I saw was an over policed community where the concept of constitutional rights varied from everywhere else. I saw 70 year old black women hog tied and tossed around by police during evictions. I saw a man tased to the ground and while unconscious he was steadily kicked in the head and stomach and groin. I saw constant abuses of power and disregard of rights. There is no protection against unlawful search and seizure. The police had a house where they would bring working girls and get sexual favors in return for not arresting the women. I saw so much police violence. I saw that rights and justice do not apply. I saw a system where racism was rampant and clearly on display. Where white officers used the n word without opposition. I saw little kids being tormented and threatened with abuse and violence and male cops "searching" teenage girls inside their clothing. I saw that addicts were arrested and given longer sentences than the drug dealers who had just sold to them. I saw injustice, racism, prejudice and systemic racism. I honestly think if every white person were required to live amongst black people in black communities for a month or two and just see how different life is for black people in low income areas compared to white ppl in low income areas compared to middle class black and white people that the end of this injustice would begin.

I had a good friend that was playing basketball when he was 14 years old. As he was leaving the playground, two police cars stop him, and one of the cops punched him in the face and arrested him. as he was sitting in jail, his mother came to the police station. As she walks in, the police chief gave her a kiss and asked her if what she was doing there and did she bring him some food. She said that she got a call from an officer that mike was in jail; he said my nephew is here. He went to the cell, and their nephew was sitting, and he ask mike what happened. He went to the arresting officers and asked about the charges; he was selling cocaine, so you are telling me that my nephew was on the playground selling drugs. The police offices went silent, they started to say that it was a big mistake and that they didn't know that mike was his nephew, so where are the drugs he was selling? The offices didn't say a word because there were no drugs; they just need to make an arrest because they did not have one in a few weeks. Mike was released from jail, and the officers no longer had jobs, and all the people they arrested that day on drug charges were released. So you need to ask yourself what would have happened if mike's uncle was not the chief of the police department that the two offices work in. And how many lives have been Destroyed because of police actions like this. We need to stop acting that because you give a person a badge, they will suddenly start. Being honest or have good moral values, they are still. Human beings and all of us are far from perfect. And some people, a gun and a badge will only bring out the worst in them.

I am sorry but you're not supposed to stay in a restaurant/café too long when you're not ordering anything anymore, especially in a FAST food place. It makes the restaurant lose money. If that ever happened to me in a restaurant, I would just leave and not start a fight. Fights get out of hand really quickly so maybe they called the police because they were scared. Customers can be really aggressive, you know. For example some people now get beaten up if they tell a client that they have to wear a face mask, or something similar related to COVID. There's alsways 2 sides of a story, don't judge too quickly.

It's true, but I'm talking for experience. Police always say that they can't do anything unless the culprit actually does a criminal act. My cousin has been victim of rape for years, by the same rapist. After the rape he only went to jail for 6 months and after getting out he would rape again. All this for 6 years. She called the police multiple times saying that the rapist was stalking her, standing in front of her window at night. But the police always said that unless he raped, they wouldn't even send a police car to guard the neighborhood. But if someone says that there is a guy smoking weed or some shit like in this video, they move. That is not "protecting", that is just "waiting for a quick buck".

I'm a swede and as a child I always thought that the American cops were so cool with all the shouting and gun tooting etc while my dad, who used to be a cop (now retired for 10 years) hated those cop shows because of how they operated. Back then, I didn't understand him at all but now, when I'm an adult, I get what he means. I imagine that a lot of American cops tell stories where they went in, gun drawn, bullets flying etc and how they shot the culprit or somehow managed to bring him in. My dad has never once told me such a story and although there have been many (none involving guns, mind you), the first one that always come to mind is when they (the police) got a call about some drunk causing a disturbance at a local bar (basically drunk and loud). This man was a local "celebrity", huge, violent and someone most people called in backup for. My dad arrived first and was alone. Instead of waiting he went inside and found the man, sitting at a table with a beer in his hand. So my dad sat down next to him (not the first time my dad had to deal with this man), the guy dwarfing him, and explained the situation after which he said that the guy could finish the beer before he had to take him in. So, the big man drank his beer and then came along willingly, much to everyone's surprise. I imagine that to the average American, my dad probably sounds like a wimp for striking a deal and not taking the man in by force but to me he's a hero.

If there is false accusation, those people should be penalized for it.
@p.z.arnott23293 жыл бұрын
And that penalization should be the punishment serving the same amount time the suppose to allow. Like, what happened with Cornerstore Caroline accused the child of sexually assaulting her. Because it happened in New York, it would be a maximum of seven years.
