I miss political comedy where it was possible to pick on innocuous traits and raise them to something funny, rather than just repeating exactly what they say. At first, the “just because we’ve seen it or not doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened” - paired with the laughter - reminded me of that press conference 20 years ago where Rumsfeld said “there are things we know, things we don’t know, and things we don’t know we don’t know” … until I thought about it for a moment. These two statements - as ridiculous as they sound on first listen - they actually DO make sense. Maybe I’m just slow and didn’t realize that before? Maybe everyone else already knows that?

known unknowns and unknown unknowns is a legitimate way of categorizing. If you're doing anything like a SWOT analysis or Emergency Management then these are something needing to be addressed. The term for unknown unknowns is generally "Black Swans." If he had simply said Black Swans not unknown unknowns then it would not have been a big deal. I assume he likely just blanked on the term. It is still funny but it's not as bad as everyone made it out to be.

@@pynn1000 you might enjoy the show Veep which is a comedy about the vice president. I think the VP basically just helps the president get their message out but yeah they don't have much power to do anything. That's kind of the point as it would make the office of the president less powerful. I did want to fact check myself so I looked it up: The vice president of the United States (VPOTUS) is the second-highest officer in the executive branch[8][9] of the U.S. federal government, after the president of the United States, and ranks first in the presidential line of succession. The vice president is also an officer in the legislative branch, as the president of the Senate. In this capacity, the vice president is empowered to preside over the United States Senate, but may not vote except to cast a tie-breaking vote.[10] The vice president is indirectly elected together with the president to a four-year term of office by the people of the United States through the Electoral College.[10] Since the passage of the Twenty-fifth Amendment (in 1967) to the US Constitution, the vice president may also be appointed by the president to fill a vacancy, via majority confirmation by both the Senate and the House. The modern vice presidency is a position of significant power and is widely seen as an integral part of a president's administration. While the exact nature of the role varies in each administration, most modern vice presidents serve as a key presidential advisor, governing partner, and representative of the president. The vice president is also a statutory member of the United States Cabinet and National Security Council[10] and thus plays a significant role in executive government and national security matters. As the vice president's role within the executive branch has expanded, the legislative branch role has contracted; for example, vice presidents now preside over the Senate only infrequently.
