Life was never like that. It's like you forgot women were treated like crap and so were black people. Kids got beat often and abused. All those shows were FAKE life and most people knew that. Hell, even in the 80s the same thing. Fake life sitcoms. It wasn't until Married with Children came along that it reminded you of how life really was in a family. It was a bit over the top but more real than the Andy Griffith show.

Oh yes...I grew up in NW Arkansas. I still live about 25 miles from where I grew up at. BUT, I am 55 now and back in my days as a kid, we never locked our house when we went to the store. No one did. No one came in and took ANYTHING. It was a pretty good day back then. I had moved away for about 3 years and came back in 1992 when my dad passed away. I was at my home where I grew up in and mom and dad always lived there. I told mom I was going to go take a walk to clear my head. (This was a week after my dad had died.) I remember that I didn't walk far and turned around and came back home. I remember overwhelming fear. This wasn't the same place it used to be. Nothing happened, but the sounds and just this thick feeling of darkness overwhelmed me. My times had changed. Not just in the few years I was gone. I was 28 at the time and hadn't walked the neighborhood in probably 12 years. The good old days were clearly gone in the 80's.

I returned to my rural small town a few years ago and basically not much has changed. The old men (who were kids with me) still hang out at the local cafe, although nobody’s drinking Cokes and smoking cigarettes. Everybody’s got electricity and indoor plumbing and less Sunday afternoon visiting, but upon hearing of a neighbors death or misfortune the cakes and casseroles parade starts. As youngsters we couldn’t wait to graduate and leave “Mayberry” behind but many of us have returned after retirement and taken up the mantle of being good neighbors.

I wholeheartedly agree 100% I love and miss ole times back when growing up us kids entertainment was watching a B&W Television, there were no video games, computers, laptops, no cellphones - we huddled around together watching Andy Griffith, Leave It To Beaver, Gilligan’s Island, I Love Lucy, etc. Our hometown has been all torn down and remodeled to build The Bicycle Hotel and Card Casino completely ruined Bell Gardens (California) took down all mom and pop stores, restaurant, houses, and so on so yes I agree with You, it sucks. The simplicity of life I once knew and loved when young and as a young adult is no more. All for a dang Hotel/Casino. It’s that way lotsa places in the world like ole {Route-66} we use to enjoy traveling from California to Oklahoma to visit family - Again, sucks! Oohhps, SORRY for sucha long comment guess I got a bit carried away, LOL! Nice folks in Mt. Airy. From 87 to 2008, selling auto body shop products, Mt. Airy was on my monthly route. Back then that small town had 5 auto parts stores. Stayed at the Mayberry Motor Inn, Andy's police car and old Ford pick-up parked out front. Great little town!

It was really interesting to see how a tourist views the town! I live here and the squad car tours, down town, and all the "Mayberry" brandings are just part of life. Really loved to seeing the excitement it brings to those who don't see everything as the norm.😊

Great video! Thanks for sharing! The actress Betty Lynn who played Thelma Lou actually lives in a retirement home in Mount Airy. Although it has been cancelled for the rest of the year, she usually does a meet and greet on the third Friday of each month at the museum! She is one of the last surviving cast members and just turned 94 in August!

So cool even though it was really filmed in SoCal. We’re related to Hal Smith (the actor who played Otis)! We still enjoy the b/w reruns and your visit to “Mayberry”. What fun 🤩

This is like sacred walking through Andy Griffith's real life home where he grew up at. You said his parents left in '66, where did they go? Guess I can Google it. You doing a tour of this home brought back memories of my own childhood. Unfortunately both the homes are no longer around due to horrible fires. But the memories still lives on. Thanks so much for the tour. Enj♥️y your tours. 😍😘🎈

Well lots of NC is sm towns where I am there's not 1 fast food place or much of anything oh a few places to eat 1 bank,1 Pharm,1 store & 1 dollar store,Vet & 2 gas stations & that's it but some towns are adorable & plenty of empty houses..
