Hi Adam, Here is a point of interest: a Spanish "star fort" or Presidio called Los Adaes in central Louisiana used to be the capital of the Texas in the Kingdom of New Spain from 1729 to 1770. All that remains is the outline of the palisades of the Presidio. If you happen to drive through central Louisiana, it's along State Hwy 6 about a mile north of the tiny town of Robeline. The location of the fort is now called "Los Adaes State Historic Site". Hours of Operation (2023): Wednesday-Saturday, Noon-4pm. I learned out about Los Adaes by reading the poem "Evangeline, A Tale of Acadie" by Henry Longfellow. The historic town was mentioned in the following lines of the poem. "Unto the town of Adayes to trade for mules with the Spaniards. Thence he will follow the Indian trails to the Ozark Mountains," Los Adaes is pronounced like [lohs uh-die-ehs]. Cheers.
