I saw Kurt and Courtney at Disneyland outside of Pirates when I was a sophomore in high school so 1992? - it was nighttime and they were buying popcorn. He had bright pink hair and was maybe my height (I’m 5’4”). I remember my friends and I got his autograph and no one really knew Courtney at the time because she stood off to the side while we all had Kurt sign our Disneyland guide maps.

@damselcausingdistress81no sounds about right. Kurt was about 5’7 and he hunched a lot when walking. Around this time he had the reddish/pink hair and they were living in LA. Courtney wasn’t that well known then, she was a little bit bc she was into the scene but it wasn’t till whenHole released 1994 Live Through This on the week of Kurt’s death when she got the notoriety she rly craved.

Im actually very surprised that she stood aside to let him sign autographs. From what ive read im even surprised to hear that he was out in public in 1992, seeing that he took an instant dislike to been recognised overnight due to the phenomenal success of Nevermind. Doesnt sound like their usual characters at all, but then everyone has their good/bad days.

As a 40 year old, I can honestly say it’s very difficult to comprehend how huge Nirvana was and only on the national stage for roughly 4 years. Such a lasting impact and how weird is it that the genre died shortly after Kurt. Some say it was never meant to last anyway, but his passing definitely sped up the process. Great vlog Adam. Take care

They always would play with Screaming trees...which are formed and became big around the same time....their from my hometown. You must be pretty young and really dont know because you weren't there, to know. He was sarcastic as hell and didn't like to be bothered. And you never see him standing and signing autographs. Great vid Adam. They actually swap out the wood from the bench periodically. It has been documented that individual pieces have been put up for auction throughout the years. Love allowed everyone to hang on the Bench outside, its where people gathered and played Nirvana music and gave out Kurt Cobain T-Shirts(Showing him as a Child with the 1967-1994 Epitaph). Thanks for the video, Adam. Last fall, I took my Mom to Kurt's childhood home in Aberdeen and the memorial (with it just a couple hours from where I live), and it was really eye-opening for both of us to contextualize where his music's sound was inspired by. The neighborhood had cracks in the street and the sky was gray, but the house's new owners renovated the front porch, took out the shrubs and the Daily World mailbox, and repainted the house itself. They even placed a polite "do not disturb" sign posted out front near the front door. Using Columbo-like research skills, I was able to show my Mom where Kurt's room was, where he stood on the front porch with his sister in that one famous photo, and even where the shrubs were originally located. We met people from all over the country at the memorial and even chatted with a group all the way from Louisianna on a pilgrimage. It was so quiet there, you can hear a pin drop next to the Wishka River Bridge where "Something In The Way" was inspired by. It was a really surreal experience for sure.

If you go to see his home in Aberdeen, not far from there (just down the river and around the corner) is the Grey's Harbor Historical Seaport, which is the homeport of the Lady Washington, the boat/ship that portrayed the HMS Interceptor in POTC#1. Also was in Star Trek: Generations, Once Upon A Time, and Revolution. She does public sailings, with are fantastic. i have been reading some articles that Kurt really did not know how to take all the fame and fortune, and had to become introverted to it all to get away, he ended up at places like a motel room, sitting in the closet, feeling a lot safer away from the pressures, and we all continued to listen to his music, finding out about the Rome overdose, losing track of him for a few weeks, then later on the Mtv report of his suicide...WOW it really shocked me, what had happened, then reports of him being killed off by Courtney, taking pills and writing his famous note, blowing his head off, a gruesome detail..it's no wonder we all were saddened by his sudden passing as we were, it happened so fast, we had to stop and take it all in, one moment your here the next your gone..............R.I.P....TAKE YOUR TIME HURRY UP, DON'T BE LATE AS I WANT YOU TO BE AS A FRIEND.

The irony is endless to me, how so many people travel to Aberdeen and they exploit him to make money, while Kurt absolutely hated it and wanted nothing more than to leave. He was my inspiration to pick up a guitar as a kid, literally learned just by ear and watching his hands. Also a role model after my parents divorced. I wonder if Kurt ever truly felt at home again after his parents split. I don't think I could handle actually being in these places, it might be too overwhelming. That being said, I believe the first house you showed is where we get the footage of Kurt on the balcony from a movie I won't mention, it never added up with the Lake Washington house. I also don't think he was at the Cactus, although the dessert first thing is common for heroin addicts. He was known to have been at the park with Francis according to a neighbor and seemed very happy. The last credible sighting was in fact at Linda's Tavern by Charles Peterson who Kurt gave his new number to...and I appreciate your terminology of Kurt's passing. Kurt never wanted to be anyone's hero. He didn't want anyone to look up to him or worship him. He just wanted to play music with his friends. Unfortunately that's exactly what ended up happening. Kurt was a troubled genius who could not enjoy fame or the loss of privacy. He attempted to end his life multiple times to escape it. Some people idolize Kurt and cannot accept that. The hero rebel musician that they created in their own head would never end his own life that way. As a result those people will embrace any conspiracy theory. Kurt was a real person who suffered and made his choice. Nobody murdered him. Nobody needed to.

I remember at the original location, going into the front doors and down to the right a flight of stairs to the basement of the music store (originally was a church building) and tinkered with the keyboard synthesizers and audio gear. Heck, I could have passed Kurt in the store and never knew it.

I just went there today. The roads are small, very curvy and sharp turns, but lots of nice willow trees and you can walk down to the lake. You can see the top of the house but that's about it. Can't say I blame the new owners. I went to the benches. There's lots of tributes, beer cans, notes and garbage on them. The second bench says 'Layne Staley's Bench", which I really liked. Layne died eight years after Kurt did. The neighborhood seems to be very peaceful and quiet. I only stayed for about ten minutes though.

Been a Kurt fanatic since I was 7 when he died. Changed my life, honestly don't know if I could say it had a good impact on me, he did but his death, honestly destroyed my insides. My mother left me about a year before he died. When she left Kurt/nirvana is what I had. Then shortly he was gone too and even as a kid, it killed me. I'm 38, I'm still dead inside and I'm sorry to my kids and my wife. I'll never forgive myself

@cbl4012 I am so sorry for you. You are psychologically injured from complicated grief. You suffered two major losses in a short period of time and have never healed from it. I would say to try to find help for your unresolved grief. I can't say it will work, as it didn't with mine. But you have a wife and a child. After my last death, my 26 yr son's S, I broke. But by then I'd already had my dad (i was 13), mom, brother and furbaby die (all w/i 6 mths time), so...... I was left completely alone. The pain is too huge and I can't get past it all. I understand feeling dead inside, Sometimes our hearts close down when someone we love is lost forever. It is our protection, our way of saying, "My heart will NOT be broken like this again, as I will never allow my heart to explode with love like this for anyone ever again. This way I can't be hurt again, as it feels unsurvivable. Maybe if you allow your wife and kids to love you and warm up your heart, it will thaw. Good luck. If you don't see this, I hope someone else will benefit. 💓

I was at the hotel room about a year ago. I thought the owner was a real nice guy, he just handed me the guy at let me explore as long as I wanted. He told me when he bought the place there were signed paper records from the guests in the office, but he searched and didn't find anything from Kurt (said if there was anything, the previous owner probably took it). He also said there were some other motels on the same road where Kurt stayed but they have been demolished.

Nirvana's influence ushered in bands that were alt pop posing as rock. the songwriting suffered. It was sawing away on guitars loudly while playing basically a pop song. The 90's went off a cliff by the time Bush and No doubt were selling millions of albums.

Great stuff. Saw Nirvana in 93...Miami. Always credited Jane's Addiction as the band that broke the hair metal mold in 88 with Nothing's Shocking. Nirvana broke grunge into the mainstream for sure...but My Bloody Valentine's Loveless was the 91 release that really blew my mind and still gets regular rotation on the record player.

Absolutely, after 88 hair metal couldn't be found. 1990 wasn't the year that hair metal sold more units that any other year of releases, the stats lie!. There was a tour of 3 not to be named HAIR bands on tour this year. Ppl have been ao over that crap for decades that it barely Drew 40,000 in my city. Whatever dude. It's all music. However, musically the grunge bands couldn't come close to the 'hair bands'.

Being from Washington state in America is like being from Wales if you're British. 80% of the time its grey, raining, windy, cold, or any combination of autumn winter vibes. Personally i love driving in the rain and love being able to drive around really hilly places and enjoy not having to trek in the cold and wet (I learned to appreciate the little things in life much more in recent times and I'm really glad I did). Anyways, when you went to the Marco Polo Motel, it totally kicked me face, as that was the Motel we stayed at when we visited Seattle. Up until this moment, it was just another motel. I dug up a picture of me in front of the motel and sure enough, it's the same motel.
