Should Silent Hill get a REMAKE? [REVISITED]

It has been 21 years since Silent Hill released and many including myself are wandering what the future of this series will hold. Today I discuss with myself and the viewer on why and why not Silent Hill should get a remake.

If they remade this game they wouldnt have to change all that much, just like Resi 2 remake it was done really well. Silent Hill 1 remake just has to have those really amazing camera sway, the creepy silence, the odd knocks and bangs that have you on edge. I would still get creeped out by this game. I dont want a remake to be screwed up though. I mean how could they improve that opening alley scene besides the graphics? The music build up, the dark and isolation.

Silent Hill 1 is my favorite horror game. It's the best in the series. I hope it gets a remake.

The source material is all there and silent hill still has what I would consider a Cult following, with updated gameplay graphics and controls I can’t see any reason why this game wouldn’t do just as good as the RE2 remake

This game atleast needs a remaster, by competent developers who will understand the story and gameplay don't need to be tampered with just update the graphics, combat and maybe the voice acting (under a good voice director that is)

See I agree with a lot of what he's saying about this but I feel like people tend to overlook one big thing when having these conversations. And that's the fact that silent hill can be introduced to a whole new generation of gamers I feel like whenever silent hill fans talk about the classics they always neglect that fact. A remake would be a incredible and I think the most optimal way to do that. Silent hill in my opinion needs a remake it's dated and whole some aspects do hold up my main read for saying this is the hardware the only ways to play the original games at this point is through fab projects or emulation and those can carry a host of issues in themselves. That or pret you've got a PS1 and PS2 around . That is a very glaring issue the vast majority are not gonna buy older consoles just to play the older games and the older games do not have any recent decent ports to new consoles. Sony is taking steps to preserve older games NOW like they are literally only now getting to it. So it may still be a while before we even see these games again. I just feel like a remake is the best route to go. I think silent hill one is the scariest in the franchise if I'm being honest I think a one to one remake without much change to the original would honestly. Hold up incredibly well but one like resident evil two with innovation would probably just blow everyone's mind. I think silent hill two needs a remake far more then 1 tbh I know it's a fan favorite but I personally don't find all that scary like at all. I think the over subtleties of the horror psychological horror is just dated. A more modern take I feel would honestly probably make it one of the scariest games of all time like many claim it is. That or a reboot like kojamis version I would kill to see a P.T revival.

Silent Hill, or Silent Hill 1 in general, means a lot to me in terms of Horror. This series is what got me into survival horror more then ever, and although the game has aged with the controls, dialogue and graphics, the presentation is astounding. There's no way they can recapture the feeling of the original. Especially how they are now, they'll just tarnish it for sure. I hate to feel that way but, I have such a love for the series, that I don't want to support any further games from them. Because they just won't be the same from where I see it.

Honestly, if they aren't going to be creating any new silent hill games, the LEAST they can do is reboot the franchise and remake 1 & 2 & 3 just like they did resident evil.

It depends, if its going to be lazy and with everything changed like RE3. NO. It has to be Silent Hill 1 EXACTLY as it was but in 4k. Maybe bigger, but never smaller. If the voice actors are still working, get them, and reunite Team Silent. Otherwise, leave it glorious as it still is.

Probably not. Team Silent split up to work on their own projects many years ago but hopefully some former members get to work on new SH games.

There is a story about the new one being made by a team silent 2.0. This is made up of classic team silent memebers. But there is also talk of the series being sold to Sony for the long haul. While many think a good silent hill needs to be steered by hideo kojima. I think this new soft reboot that is in discussion has a high promise. I also feel there are many games also that use some silent hill aspects. My only worry is the new game or series to come from it may have to make some changes that can capture the sense of terror and game play that plays towards its sensation like the slow strikes since the game was more puzzle driven then battle. So my biggest worry of a new mechanic or story can undermine something that may make the game feel to different only using names to keep it tied to the world of silent hill. My hope is this is a good game whether one is on the side of the classics or on the side of the more action charged counter parts.

Would you ever consider reviewing Rayman (PS1) or the rayman franchise as a whole? If you do, avoid the PS1 port of Rayman 2 and go for the Dreamcast version.

@@Danka0199 Thats pretty simple, you saying the original PSX RE "feel dated". Silent Hill 1 always felt roughter than RE, and its main (and mostly only) attractive is the use of real time lighting (per vertex lighting) compared to prerendered BGs of RE, but movement/animation, rendering and texturing are way worse in silent hill. Textures are lower resolution and fewer color palette, and im gonna give a pass for the 3D models because i understand the limits of the PSX, but damn, SH models really have the minimal vertices needed for animation. All Resident Evil remake while good, left out things from the original PSX versions. RE2 and 3 remakes lost even a good chunk of gameplay elements, and i dont mean the zapping system of 2 or the decisions of 3. Their only 2 attractive qualities are PBR and the shooting mechanics (and those are pretty subjective). The most fun parts of the originals are the world exploring, getting to know of the events that arent explicitly shown but only implied or just told through a text prompt, and those are gone. REmake, only improved the rendering quality and the animations, but lost are the multiple progression paths (like being able to get the complete researcher's will with jill, impossible in remake), so, the only real weak points of the originals are the static lighting of the prerendered BGs and low render resolution (not the mesh detail or texture resolution).
