This is a long video, but given the start I wish you had asked him about the mixed reception the games reveal had. "Was he there when they reanimated him in the intro or was that done by hand?" It's a missed opportunity.
@BehindTheVoicePod12 күн бұрын
@GuyOnAChair he's an actor and in this conversation he mentioned that he saw the scenes online, so when he was working on the game, those scenes were not even rendered. So he will have no clue about the first impressions and how the rendering was changed. That is more appropriate to ask the developers and not the actor
@GuyOnAChair12 күн бұрын
@@BehindTheVoicePod He was reffering to the original game, not the remake. Later he talked about seeing some of the finished scenes from the game he's in online. I'm unsure how aware he is of the changes to that scene or if they changed/trimmed the existing takes as a lot of the stuff he was talking about (like trying to do the eye contact that was debunked as untrue by the original team) didn't seem to make it in.

I adore Guy Cihi and how he created James as a character, love to hear his insights and some of the lines he delivered are brilliant. But I gotta say, Luke and his portrayal in the remake blew me away. Especially with the little nuances and subtleties in his performance. I love how Bloober made all of the characters feel alive and real while still maintaining that dreamlike weirdness of the original. While the story remained the same, I really felt bad for James this time around and got very emotional just watching the scenes play out while I didn't feel that connection with him in the original. (The "Stillness" ending... gosh...) Luke did a fantastic job, so did all the other actors in the remake. Much love to them. Thanks for the interview!

@DavidLucian14 күн бұрын
Luke Roberts is such an amazing person and actor, no debate whatsoever. This is going to sound like absolute blasphemy, but I'm legitimately shocked to say that I may actually prefer remake James over the original. As someone who has dealt with depression, I think he absolutely nailed it. It's not necessarily being "sad", but just feeling mentally "numb", as you said. It's funny how everyone was saying James seemed too emotional in the reveal trailer, but ironically, they've addressed that so incredibly well, that dare I say the original James was actually a bit more emotional at times than remake James. Either way, Luke Roberts knocked it out of the park.The reason why Silent Hill 2 it became a classic is because eventually people began to see how unique, eerie, melancholic and authentic the game's atmosphere it really is, and took the time to enjoy its deeply thoughtful narrative and symbolism. The soundtracks of SH2 are so Iconic and Divine. 🎶☯️🎶To this day it’s by far one of, if not the most mature examination of grief, sexual trauma, suicide, and morality all combined. It’s an intelligent game that does not hold anyone’s hand and comes at the player with utmost confidence in itself. It’s fantastic stuff. The rest of the original 4 are great in their own right and have their own well written stories, but they don’t hold the same emotional weight to them. I think SH2’s maturity by comparison is something that a lot of people are drawn to. ☯️
@danigmod11csxd14 күн бұрын
Well said, I feel the same way.
@BehindTheVoicePod13 күн бұрын
WOW this is really well said. The limitations of the original was it was not able to convey the emotional feelings so well and that's the advantage of the new technology. Now games can show that in much detail, making it easier for actors to act in the way they would do in any other medium, giving a much more authentic experience

35:25 hey men! This podcast is excellent. I've subscribed almost since inception and I love the way it has been growing specifically your confidence to interview/talk with your guests. This video is an excellent example of it. It has been a fluid chat and you can see how Luke is relaxed. Plus, perhaps because it's a small channel, you keep in touch with everyone that commented. In particular with me, I feel that I am interacting with you, chatting, sharing ideas, questions and I can see later on that you took something from what I said, shared or suggested. It feels like you are doing an honest job. You love what you are doing. Honestly, no one else is doing it. So, you found your place in this multiplatform content universe. Keep going. Thanks for this video. Love it!

I haven't started the video yet LOL but wanted to say that Luke's James really made me see and understand why Mary fell in love with him (I'm straight up in love with remake James despite knowing what happens LOL) how he's able to capture the inner battle and conflicting emotions of James in just eye movements alone is insane to me, and really cements a place in my heart alongside Guy Cihi's James ✨💖💖💖✨

SH2R is easily GOTY material, perhaps even the best video game remake ever produced...and Luke's complete renaissance of a performance as James (along with Salome and Gianna as Mary/Maria and Angela) is such a large part of why that is fact.

Thanks for asking him my question! I absolutely love how he responded to it. I get how, as an actor, you can’t cast too much judgement on your character, so it was interesting hearing how he played it. From my perspective, I find it hard to judge James fairly. It would be easily to condemn him and brand him as a monster, but I have not been through the many years of hardship he went through, and I honestly do not know what I might do if put in his position. I think what James did was monstrous and, while part of the reason he did it was an act of mercy, he himself admits that much of it came down to selfishness. I don’t think James is a good person, as he failed the ultimate test of morality and robbed his wife of what dignity she might’ve had in her limited time left on Earth, but a true monster would not feel the extreme guilt he does and seek atonement so desperately. To put it simply, I think James is human.
@rosenrot23413 күн бұрын
There really is no dignity to remain after your health goes through a journey like she did. She wasn't getting better. And everything was getting worse. Is "dignity" more important than "My wife is suffering. I can't take it anymore" ?
@garyking198613 күн бұрын
@ What I mean is that there was no autonomy for her in the end. Sure, the disease robbed her of most of her dignity, but she still deserved to have the decision over how to die (within the purview of the current circumstances). It was not James’ decision to make. He does not get to choose what happens to her or her body. He could’ve had an honest conversation with her about euthanasia, but instead he chose not to since he knew she might’ve said no. Mary died confused, scared and screaming. She died feeling betrayed by the man who promised to stay by her side and care for her, in sickness and in health. And I’ll just say, framing “I can’t take it anymore” to be the priority here is inherently selfish and doesn’t present a good case for James. A good husband would have stayed by her side and cared for her until whenever she decided the end was. She told him that she didn’t want to die, and he chose to ignore that. Again, I’m not saying he’s a bad person through at his core, but what he did to Mary was terrible.
@rosenrot23413 күн бұрын
@@garyking1986 At that point. That wasn't even really Mary anymore. It's hard to put into words. If you've dealt with someone dying of a disease, you might get what I'm trying to say. I don't wanna like. Assume you did or did not, that's rude. To him she's been dead for three years while the actual murder was just a few days ago to snuff out the monster wearing Mary's face. From his pov anyway.
@garyking198613 күн бұрын
@@rosenrot234 I still feel that you're trying to take accountability away from him in a way. Please understand that he was of sound mind and body when he made his decision, and no amount of watching his wife suffer nor her being mean to him would change that. A common analysis of the original is that James imagines Mary died three years ago because it's confirmed that's when she received her diagnosis. From that point, she was dead to him. I appreciate your respectfulness towards me though. I haven't gone through exactly what James did, but my family and I are currently dealing with a close relative's worsening illness. I just don't want to pivot my entire argument around my experience with that as I feel my points would hold as much merit if said by anyone.
@rosenrot23413 күн бұрын
@@garyking1986 I hope my text didn't come off as combative. I know Silent Hill kinda treats its characters like ink blot tests. So a few details are different for each folks. And yeah bud I wouldn't wanna make you talk about something you don't want to.
