Why do baseball writers even have a say on who gets in the HOF, to many of them have personal agendas and hold grudges. A group of baseball veterans, those who actually played the game should decide who gets in or not.

I have said , this FOR years ! It's broke & has been for decades ! AND a NEW system needs to be DONE ! They wait & put players in on there [ LAST ] years a lot ? WHY ? They have not added to there stats in those 10 to 15 years ? My plan is simple but , gives all a say ,NOT , just DUMB ASS [ writers ] ! My plan is the [FANS ] get .25 % of the vote , [ Ex players ] get .25 % of the vote , [ Mangers and coachs ] get .25 % of the vote , AND these dumb ass [ writers ] get .25 % of the vote for the total of 100 % ! Also I think .70 % of the vote is good enough to get in !

Since when does someone’s political views and tweets have anything to do with his work on the field? One of the most feared postseason pitchers. Who cares if you agree or disagree with what he says.

Barry bonds is the best offensive baseball player I’ve ever seen. Maybe the best all around. He’s already in the hall for multiple reasons. Not inducting him as an individual is ridiculous

And Bonds was better than any of those players BEFORE he used steroids and WHILE they were on them 🤣 Then Bonds did steroids and became a fkn video game character and hit major league pitching like he was playing against a TEE ball childrens league.

Clemens wasn't a HoF'er from his Boston career based on what? Longevity? Dude had 3 cy youngs, 2600 k's, 3.06 era, led the league in era 4 times, 192 wins with a .634 win %. That's more innings pitched than Roy Halladay and better overall stats. Literally the only argument against solely his Boston stats are longevity, except even that's more than already some starting pitchers in the hall. Its nearly the same stats as Koufax had in his short career (Koufax had a bit lower era, but so did everyone in the 60s). That argument just doesnt fit with whats already in the hall.

Here's the ironic part, if you vote Curt Schilling into the Hall of Fame, people WILL forget about him. No more articles about best players not in the Hall, no more comparisons to pitchers who get elected after him. None of that.

Pete Rose should be in as well. I get he gambled on games he was in, but I will always believe he betted FOR the Reds, NOT against them. He was a competitor, very driven. He was called "Mr. Hustle" his rookie year by the Yankees dugout for treating a regular season game like it was the World Series. Even Michael Jordan said he wasn't addicting to gambling, but he was addicted to competition. Rose is cut from the same cloth.

thoughtful, forgiving and yet principled conversation on the subject by DP. it is a difficult subject, especially given how willing some people have been to try and excuse the inexcusable. Schilling's candidacy, based off the numbers, is borderline at best. i don't think it's unfair to figure in some extraneous subjects when considering someone for the Hall. being a scumbag or a criminal etc doesn't help anyone with anything (unless their auditioning for some form of dictator) in life. should that not matter when it comes to the very high bar of being someone others would want to immortalize in the Hall? if you're about the big picture, figuring in play and what someone represents (ie their particular brand of "fame"), why not choose Dale Murphy over Schilling? Murphy's numbers trailed off but that can be seen as proof of his playing the game the right way... he dominated his era when he was at the age an athlete would normally do that. the problem is, some people like to lionize - for wont of a better word - 'deplorables'... and that is where the discussion gets complicated as then it is based off a set of unacknowledged assumptions ie whether you agree with such an approach or not. i, personally, don't think we should lionize people who cheat. not only does that keep out the players who did it right (we can only guess, of course), as well as possibly costing other players even a career, but what message does that send to the youth? i mean, isn't that one of the problems here in America right now? people don't have standards for behavior, any accountability, and just about anything seems to go... yet, it is also undeniably true great players who cheated can and should still be part of the game's history - not as inductee with an asterisk but as part of a non-inducted, history wing maybe? cancel culture is not an admirable thing. neither is lack of ethics and not being accountable for mistakes.

@@boataxe4605 what exactly is your argument here? Anybody who’s doing serious coke, their numbers and production falls. Every single guy listed was in the juice and their hr totals went up 10-20%. But again, are you arguing steroids didn’t benefit players production or that coke did too?
