A potential explanation I came up with in a reply to another comment; I think the whole town must periodically fall partially 'out' of reality. The parents know what's going on, so it's happened before. They still have a connection to the outside world so they haven't fallen completely out of the universe, but it's enough for the rest of the world to have 'forgotten' them, hence why they vanished from the internet. The entities are Lovecraftian in nature, able to enter the city because it's Fallen Out, and those are the kinds of creatures that get more powerful the more you Know about them. Cognitohazards, which explains why the parents can't explain what's going on. It could be anything- just them directly getting stronger from people knowing about them, or knowledge of them could be like a beacon. If it's the latter, having the ignorant around might obscure that effect. Or knowledge might even corrupt those too young or weak of willed, hence why the kids are kept in the dark. The only explanation I can think of for keeping the kids in the dark, other than just "Lol story trope", is that the creatures are a cognitohazards.
@kookykoruc18273 жыл бұрын
Interesting theory, only thing i don't understand is: if it happened before why would they stay there? Other than that, the creature explanation actually makes sense. I sincerely love when there's purposely little information on the creatures as it makes them more horrifying in my opinion
@OWnIshiiTrolling3 жыл бұрын
The parents not explaining anything seems to just be a convenient way to avoid having to flesh out the story in this case. They could have offered a lot more information to their kids without explaining anything about the creatures. It really looks like the characters were made braindead for plot convenience.
@michaelh96493 жыл бұрын
@Owen Ishii I don’t think that’s the case with this one, as frustrating as it was. They made too big of deal about it in the story, with a couple different characters remarking on how weird it was. I think the author would’ve tried to gloss over it if it was intended to be just a plot device. Of course, whatever the author intended, it ended up acting only as a plot device because he gave literally zero clues as to what else it could be, so the whole point is moot lol
@OWnIshiiTrolling3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelh9649 Pointing out flaws like that in the script itself is sometimes used in an attempt to fix the flaw. It doesn't work, though, since the characters pointing out how dumb it is doesn't make it any less dumb. It really looks like a "Hey, even the characters acknowledge that it's stupid, so you can't fault me for it, because I figured it out myself!" We are basically asked to ignore the flaw, because the story acknowledges the flaw, which is kind of silly. But as you say, in the end it's unexplained dumb behavior either way. I just think it's a matter of not investing enough time into the story to make the characters plausible (which is totally fine in a zero-budget online story, and completely understandable), and not for some hidden in-universe reason.

The second I heard that his school isn't on the web, and "there's something outside", makes me think that the whole town has phased/disconnected from their main reality. They aren't showing up, because until they reconnect to a world with other people, they technically don't exist. The parents have gone through this before, as they know the rules that you follow to ensure you don't get captured /killed (don't open the door if it's knocked on, keep all doors and window s closed to ensure "they" can't get in, ect. Dad's use of weapons means that the Things are somewhat vulnerable to them, but the fact they aren't heavily use its more of a deterrent then a Finisher.

@@twilightparanormalresearch186 this is the explanation that would make the most sense. I don't know if the story backs it up, though. If they all got injured on that first night, Jeanie _did_ seem to turn much faster than the narrator's parents, which could be because her husband and daughter _both_ knew about her injury (2 other people having knowledge, as opposed to just 1), or it could've been because she had a much worse injury than they got (not stated, but that's the impression I got). What _I_ want to know is how come the parents always seem to know exactly what's going on in these stories? In _The Third Parent_ the author actually bothered to explain that the parents had gone through it themselves as children, but in a story like this it's like.... what, did they also experience their entire hometown disappearing and everyone turning into monsters when they were kids? How did _they_ survive, if that's the case?

I don't know what links the disappearance of any online footprint the town has with it's physical disappearance. I've listened to it a couple of times and I'm none the wiser on that front. At the end of the story it alludes to there being a sequel and it would be a great idea for the author to write one in the style of the protagonist but a few years older when they try to find their home town and maybe have more clues as to the background of the entity and what, if anything, their government knows about what's going on.

Protagonist noticed a scratch/wound that they were hiding. Probably it is some kind of virus that affects the brain or something and forces victims to walk right to the monster eventually. The woman from a friend's family also was scratched, and at night she was gone via the window. Same fate. What I really don't understand is the last seconds of the ending. Protagonist talks about returning to the town in the future and that they "know they can find the entrance". Just like the monsters did, knocking and prodding every nook and cranny? And at the last sentence, he signs up as Mark? I thought Mark was his brother? Is he hallucinating? Is he having an imaginary friend? Is it some part of "I'm already a monster and killed my brother"? Your narration style is absolutely the best of the whole genre. Everything jives perfectly; the cadence, inflection/tone/emphasis, musical score & sound effects. Great story choices too. Not once am I ever jolted out of the story by the usual amateur mistakes found in other channels narrations, like mispronounced words or poorly formed story structure. Thanks so much!

love that "i have a crush on alice, this is irrelevant now and will only explain later actions" when the action in question was saying "you let her die" otherwise though, this story was pretty awesome(ly narrated, too)

Dark !! YOU nailed it once again. You are truly so good to us. The Atmosphere in this story is soooo good; in the beginning, when the brothers see something in the woods and hear a scream, I love those moments, they feel cosy. Safe inside, while the horrors are outside. truly a glorious story that put me in a real movie like state in my head ^^ Thank you so much Dark Somnium. after all these years, your voice sounds like a good friend to me, helping me fall asleep ^^ ! Only your channel can cause genuine and anxiety enducing fear. The environment woven by your stories is perfect enough for me to slip deep into focus, and let reality fade and give way to the world in-between the words. This was the first creepypasta I listened to before slipping down a rabbit hole and a journey of gaming and listening followed. I came back to listen again and this made me sweat just as hard as it did the first night I heard it. Truly the best creepypasta channel I've found yet.

Damn, I really like how you read stories. The music and sound effects are on point and the voices, oh my god you implement the voices really fucking good. That's one of my biggest gripes with channels having other people voice characters, they're always so bad it takes me out of the story, but the way you do it is truly cinematic. Ay you got yourself another subscriber homie. Keep up the good work
