“That was FRICKIN cool!” Welcome to the army Mrs H.! Nightwish formed in 1996, first album 1998. Wacken is in northwest Germany, small village outside of Hamburg. This was 10 months after Floor joined, but was first time most of Europe has seen her as the lead singer. That spectacular ending was Floors idea. Not how it was originally recorded. Thanks David for bringing her in. Now you understand what Nightwish reaction junkies like me feel, watching others hear them for the first time. Look forward to seeing more. “PLAY!!”

Angels Fall First was released in November 1997, but only in Finland. “The band, and especially band leader and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen has since frowned upon the album, considering it essentially an extended demo. In a 2011 interview, when asked what album other than Imaginaerum Holopainen wanted to make into a movie, he replied that it would be Angels Fall First, and that it would be "a black-and-white comedy". Oceanborn was released in 1998.

BTW, Floor dropped her first single today called "Fire" which she also wrote and produced. It's not metal, it's not rock, but it is a bit poppish, but in Floor's way. BTW2, Pip Williams of the London Philharmonic calls Tuomas a genius as well.

Well, he's kinda right tho. For example, I was a Nightwish fan and I stopped listening to their modern stuff after Tarja left, like "what's the point?". When I heard that Floor joined them (I knew her from working with Arjen) I was still kinda indifferent and didn't check any of their new albums or shows... until I heard GLS on youtube. It changed everything :D

Yea, an "exaggerated "version" of Sibelius 'monument/statue' + As many of us knows Tuomas is also a Huge fan of Disney - productions, so the keyboard stand is quite identifiable from Donald Duck cartoons etc. Not to even mention his passion on Disney music. Like first time listeners, especially reactors on this particular piece of their tasty cake easily hear similarities to "The Pirates of Caribbean" soundtracks...

I cannot wait to see Mrs. Heretic's face when she hears Yours Is An Empty Hope for the first time. 😆 I may have been in the minority, but when Floor came into the band, I knew she was going to be a good fit. I was a fan of both of her previous bands, After Forever and ReVamp, and I loved her vocal style. I was rooting for her to become a full time member because I loved how her voice fits with Nightwish's music. I hope some After Forever and ReVamp gets on your request list, if they aren't already there, so you can see where Floor started. And you can also get a feel for her as a songwriter, not just a vocalist with those bands as well.

Floor Jansen isn’t pronounced as Jensen. The nordic J was perfect but the a is pronounced as you pronounced the a in Wacken. I am Dutch like Floor. 😊 Nice that info about the London Orchestra. @@NorbertPueschel Everything of Wacken 2013 is amazing so you can’t go wrong with that. “Amaranth” and “Ever dream” are great after Ghost love score, for more metal “Ghost river”, for more death growls “Yours is an empty hope”, for like 80’s metal “Song of myself”, for more operatic “Shoemaker” ending, for just rough “Tribal”, for a party “I want my tears back” in Buenos Aires, etc., etc. So much versatility with this band.

\|/ Well I know that I speak for every sane member of the Nightwish Army man, when I say that we'll all definitely be showing up for any & every video that you make wherein you're introducing your girl to more kick-ass Nightwish tunes... heh... that's for damned sure my friend. I would bet you anything that interest is high indeed for that type of thing; hell, for any such kind of content wherein someone that's as personable, engaging, & clearly pretty damned knowledgeable of musical structure and has the wisdom garnered via personal experience playing in a band, choosing to intimately share their own appreciation of what this existentially transportative musical experience is... a thing which is simply what is so often being offered up by the live performances of this group called "Nightwish". All of this awesome music is, in my not so humble opinion anyhow, actually kinda a unique sort of emotion evoking experience which folks can unexpectedly discover out of this thing that Nightwish has made here. What with just how incredibly amazing all of the band members artistic skills & composed workings are... and dammit man, all of those musical savants together definitely makes for a chemical soup that's just, so, damned, cool... Mixing in all of their mutual, enthusiastic, and respecting musical vibing seemingly just naturally works so well together, that it will inevitably produce works that are just so distinctive, so perfectly aligned and harmoniously felt by each of the incredible individuals in this band... that magic results. They are all just so in sync up there inside of their live performances; as well as how genuine their obvious emotional investments are in these performances; that it all tends to, more often than not, ultimately end up creating quite a good number of awe-inspiring songs, songs which are simply just so undeniably and incredible great that it actually becomes a moving experience, one that they have elevated unto true musical masterpieces! ☆ Yeah man, absolutely, do it for sure, for sure my man; ya know I'm in and will be turning up for it already, dude!

Sorry Dave I want to send a message to your better half : Can't wait for more reactions from you to Nightwish and Floor in general. If you want to see some of her solo projects they are diverse eg. 'Let it Go' from frozen for her daughter to listen to. A bit of classical with Puccini's 'O mio babino Caro' - contemporary numbers such as 'Shallow' by Lady Gaga. One thing that many miss about Floor and Nightwish at Wacken Open Air ... Floor joined the band as fill in early Oct of 2012, she had been prepping to join them in November when Annette would take maternity leave. Here's the key though about Wacken 2013 - Nightwish was scheduled to be the headliner. When Floor walked out to open their show it was the first time most of the audience would see her with Nightwish. Some did know her from her band ReVamp and previously with After Forever. There was anticipation, trepidation ... the feud over Tarja vs Annette was still a very hot topic and now a third singer was stepping in. Many knew she could take on songs that Annette could not do ... Annette is very talented but more of a pop style than operatic or metal. The pressure the night of this concert was likely insane ... the band walked out ... opened with a heavy, driving, force ... 15 songs later the legend of Floor was carved in granite. 80,000+ ... headliners ... with a new singer ... only to put on what of the greatest live shows ever.

People watch the performance, are stunned by what they hear and see, and then at the end Floor just clobbers them with a sledge hammer as the viewer realizes that she's actually been holding back the entire song. Ok I'm late to this party...sorry I'm gonna repeat stuff... Floor had been w the band 10mos and approx 40 shows at filming here. Now, the Anette saga... the band was on a world tour in 2012 when Anette announced she was pregnant w her 3rd child...totally fine...SHE suggested they hire a replacement once she got further along. Then she got sick and was hospitalized....she took back her replacement idea and wanted the band to postpone dates. That's where the trouble came to a boil. Anette knew bringing Floor in was the end of her (and she was right). But the fight between her and the band about this situation brought to the surface, realizations, let's say, that permanently replacing Anette was the right call for the direction and motivations of the whole band. Sad tho that is, Anette deserves much respect for ushering the band thru their most commercially successful period. Mrs. H... welcome to The Army!

Love your reaction to this. You mention several times about her only being with the group for 5 months, so go check out the video of the same song from Buenos Aries 2012 I believe. Floor wanted to change up the ending to what you just saw, and watch for the camera panning to Emmpu. The smile on his face says that she nailed it! And if I am not mistaken that performance was like the second time she performed this song. Any way check it out and you will see what I mean.
