Such a good tribute by Mark to his late friend Layne. RIP to Layne, Mark and Mike

Lanegan was one of the most underrated singer/songwriters to come out of the 90s.

Mark and Layne are such good friends with pain and regrets. They make the most beautifully painful songs. The lullaby of nightmares sung by dark angels.

I've always said that Marks music is the closest thing to observing a painting. The thoughts and feelings I get are unlike anything I've experienced before while listening to music. His book "Sing Backwards and Weep" is also fucking incredible.

Lanegan is my all time favorite singer/artist, the things this man used to, and still does to this day, make me feel are insane. When I first heard this I honest to God cried. Especially knowing the background to this song and Layne and Lanegan's friendship. I loved your review, well done

Early 2022 was a very sad time for me, I lost two of my favorite singers. We lost Meat Loaf in January and just a month later we lost Mark Lanegan, I just couldn't believe it. I grew up listening to these guys, but I will forever be thankful that their music will live on for eternity.

Listen to the last phrase of the song in the Jar of Flies version, then MTV unplugged, then the M.Lanegan version. -1 - “Dead” is not strong, it leaves some hope -2- “Dead” is longer, strong and gloomy, Layne knows that this is his near destiny. -3- The reaper has passed, we feel the immense pain in this word “Dead”, the regrets and even to the point of disgust. This tribute twists my heart in every way, and I can’t stop crying. On the other hand, I find Duvall completely disrespectful when he sings Nutshell. Systematically he speaks to the audience asking them to sing the last phrase and he never pronounces it, as if it were a curse. Not to mention his total lack of emotion in his voice and his senseless gesticulations, while each time Jerry dedicates the song to Layne and Mike.

I seriously feel bad for the people that don’t give Mark’s music a chance. One of the most prolific artists to come out of the Seattle scene and was one of the last GREAT vocalist we had, now it’s pretty much just Eddie Vedder left. RIP Mark

If you’re feeling this maybe you’d like Mark singing Slip Away with Mad Season, Mike McCready’s solo on that song is him making the guitar cry out.

Dave, you gotta check his solo work. Whiskey for the holy ghost, scraps at midnight. I'll take care of you. All worthy albums to have

Just beautiful.. Seattle's Museum Of Pop Culture Founders Award did a whole series with different artists to raise money. Shooter Jennings and Duff Mckagan (Guns N' Roses) covered "Down in a Hole" - their version is world class!

The whole set is great. Mark Lanegan was on a Brother cover from set. I think my favorite was the Drone cover from the set. The only cover I didn't care for really was from Metallica that did a Would cover. Again with Mastadon was really good too

Long time since I checked the channel David! You’re Doing great! To be fair, the version of Nutshell you heard with Layne was from Unplugged. And while many think that performance was incredible, I always believed it was sub-par. At that point, Layne was diminished and high with a lisp due to his rotting teeth. All the power and energy from his body gone. So I would say this IS better than the Unplugged version. However, have you heard the studio version? In that case, imo, the studio version is far superior to this, especially in terms of vocals. Laynes voice never sounded more pure. Anyways be well!

Brother, anyone who takes issue with anyone singing Layne's work need to blame one person and one person only. Layne. He made that choice. No one else. Jerry and the guys sobered up and have a family to feed. They aren't going to not sing their 90s hits just because he's gone. They are going to give the people who buy their tickets what they came to hear, and they damn well should. All these buffoons saying "change the name, dont sing his songs, blah blah." No. This is Jerry, Sean, Mike, and Will's band. They make those decisions, not salty fans who can't move on from the 90s. And I think you'll agree with me when I say, had Layne not died that day, and continued to use, he would have been fired. 100 percent. Like Scott from STP. The band was not going to stop forever. They already missed out on tours from Jar of Flies and Tripod because he couldn't tour. Layne caused the band a lot of problems in the end. Dare I say, he was even killing the band. Jerry and the guys needed to move on. They've made 3 more albums now and I couldn't be more proud of them. And especially thanks to Will. Because of him, I've seen them in concert 7 times. Without Will, that 7 would be a big fat 0. So just ignore the fanatics. Just like Layne, the only one that can help them is themselves.

David, AIC is my favorite band and Layne is my favorite singer and I’m fine with AIC continuing it’s their band not mine. I just don’t like it as much and in my opinion it’s missing the “it” factor for lack of a different description. But I’m totally with you this version was better to me too. It did straight pull at your heart, it was like the steel guitar notes were crying and pulling in the feels. No question it was better all around even Mark. I was skeptical but boy I was pleasantly surprised.
@norair1010 Жыл бұрын
I saw them with the new guy and he is very good. Is he Layne? No. But he's just as good. His singing sounds like Layne and his guitar playing is decent. I have not seen AIC with Layne so I'm not sure if he ever played it live so I can't compare them. Hopefully I'll get to see them next month. Rock on.
