I love that he instantly got the joke about the guitar solo. 🤣 Most people are confused as hell becuase they have zero guitar knowledge. Classic Devin for ya.

Aah, yet another masterpiece of His Royal Goofiness, Sir Devin Townsend. The least pretentious rock star in the Universe, a claim ultimately tested and proven by his cover on stage of «Disco Inferno» while wearing a ballerina skirt…!😂I can’t help it, I just love this guy to bits!
@xMRxZEROx3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Devin is singlehandedly the most immensely talented and equally humble musician this world will ever have the fortune to know. He is a God amongst men who views himself as a lowly peasant. His vocal talents are some I would put against almost anyone throughout earth's history, yet he hates singing. His music is some of the most majestic, beautiful, angry, sinister, weird and insane stuff the world has, yet he'd say he sucks ass. I love the man. Beyond words.

Devin Townsend is known for "Wall of Sound" kind of music pretty much since Strapping Young Lad. The sound comes like wave, slams into you and leaves you tumbling in the surfs of its melodies. I think the mix was intentional. If the guitar was elevated out of the everything else it would not hit simultaneously with everything else
@DrumDTLTE23 жыл бұрын
I was going to say the same thing. Devin has admitted that he loves reverb and loves the Beach Boys' use of the "wall of sound".

He wasn't lying about that guitar solo either, this was the first episode. 🤣

Hi David. I met my wife in 1989 and bout 2 years ago, something that came across her facebook page and she asked if I'd ever heard of Devon Townsend. I checked the guy out and was completely blown away. I was like, "you went to school with this guy"? Any how, she's actually a year older and only met him several times in passing at a party and so on. She said, there was always something about him that would indicate success in whatever he wanted to do in life. She added, "I grew up across the street from his base player, Brian "Beav" Waddell". Now Brian's no 'Little Gene', but he gets the job done. As always, love what you do man.

This man is hilarious, theres a video of a live show, they had technical issues and Devin just start talking, making fun, and entertaining the crowd until get fixed. The best frontman IMO Now you have to listen to "Why" (not a request since im not a patreon 😬) But that song is something interesting, kinda like a heavy metal Disney song. Ok, now im getting late to work, gotta run. Byeeeee

I *LIKE* this guy, he's entertaining! I could swear he's a facebook friend of one of my friends, too, he looks and his name sounds that familiar, too, but it could just be too much blood in my caffeine stream right now. That was super fun to watch!

Watch the other song from the EMG session. It is instrumental. Incorporating many techniques, finger-picking, tapping, and his use of effects

Thanks David - Dev's my guy We need to show you a song with some great lead guitar. He's the best lead guitarist, that hardly ever puts solos in his songs. Deep Peace and Failure - they both have videos recorded at Plovdiv. He uses a full orchestra and choir, just like he did when he records his albums. Really enjoy your channel Cheers

Check out Devy performing Willy Wanka. It's from this same EMG filming but it's just him doing his guitar magic (no vocals) from about 10 or so of his songs. If you want to see a great live video of his former band look up Deadhead at Royal Albert Hall

Originally those falsetto parts were sung by a female. Anneke Van Giersbergen, which says a whole deal about his talent. No big fan but likes songs. Stormbending is probably the IMO.

Don't worry, later in this series he picks up the white guitar you see in the back and he does a medley of his guitar riffs from his songs, no singing to show off the pickups just fine. Look for Willy Wanka, you'll see he's actually a pretty talented guitarist on top of a great singer. Oh and the backing track, the Wall of Sound mixing is his sound. If you want it without backing track, either look up videos from his Empath Order of Magnitude tour or just him with a guitar at Namm 2016.

I know most of your requests come from your patreon subscribers. Here are a few suggestions for Devin Townsend. Why?. From his quarantine concert he did for charity. It has a Disney/ Broadway feel. It showcases his vocals. The song, Mountaintop, from the Dunlop session. Is from his album casualties of cool.

Lol the complaint is the guitar is blended too perfectly. 😂 Not too much of a complaint. Maybe they're showcasing what it'll sound like in a mix? Who knows
@THEDavidHeretic3 жыл бұрын
I did say in the video it was a small little thing. I just thought that, since this was a guitar showcase to show off the EMG pickups he was using, the guitar should have been brought up in the mix a little more.

Don't know what you're talking about in regard to the mix. If a brand is sponsoring a live performance, I would want to hear how that brand cuts through a good mix, rather than having that instrument absolutely drown everything else out. What would that prove?
