This song is so simple and complex at the same time. The main guitar is in 5/4 while the rest of the band is in 4/4. One of my favorite songs ever. The more times you listen to it, the more you like it, as usually happens with this band.

Let Down is my favorite Radiohead song, but I think hearing the song within the context of the album is the best way to hear it. It fits in perfectly on the record. The song’s climax is outstanding.

I feel like Ok Computer is an album you need to sit down and listen to in-full to fully appreciate, and I’ve also found I’ve grown to love this album over many listens. Would love to see you do a full album reaction, because yes, things like the synths do make a lot more sense within the context of the album.

It's refreshing to watch a music reaction that doesn't pander and is honest. That's why I follow you. Your honesty makes it all the more satisfying when you do love the song. That said, Let Down is my favorite and I demand a retraction! Lol. Kidding. Crossing my fingers for the next one.

I obsessed over this album for 10 years before this song finally clicked for me. I now consider it one of the most beautiful songs ever written. More than anything, it’s the feeling it gives off.

The lyrics alongside Thom’s delivery does a lot of the heavy lifting on this track. As you’ve said many a time ‘you’re not a lyrics guy’ I’m not entirely surprised with where you scored it. For me, it’s a grower. Recently after 28 years of knowing the track, at the right time and place it turns me into a gibbering wreck lol. I did think it was superbly used at the end of season 1 of The Bear.
@jimlaheta88646 күн бұрын
agree with the song causing a teary effect, not sure why. And yes re: end of season 1 for The Bear; in general whenever you hear a Radiohead song in a show or movie you know something messed up is about to happen, like in Handmaid's Tale.
@PuppetWithPerception5 күн бұрын
@ No matter what I’m watching, I always find, that some Radiohead has sneaked onto the soundtrack. Yes, Handmaid’s Tale used them brilliantly, as did Peaky Blinders. My most recent favourite was Everything In Its Right Place being used at the end of season 3 of For All Mankind.

@ I think Radiohead might be on all the Twilight movie soundtracks, too

@@jimlaheta8864 I think that was a Thom solo track, Hearing Damage. I’ve never watched the film, but I remember having to by the full damn album on iTunes as they’d blocked individual track purchases.

This album changed my appreciation for music when it came out and this track, over time, became a favourite. I see Airbag reaction is next month - that one is a bit more middle of the road for me but let's see. Hope patrons (since I can't join) will eventually suggest some Moon Shaped Pool tracks and of course more rockers for David. Oh and while I'm requesting the requesters, someone PLEASE request TV on the Radio - Wolf Like Me on Letterman, one of my fav TV performances. ❤

This song was actually one of the standouts for me when I first heard this album twenty years ago. I still think it is a gorgeous and fascinating composition. The dissonance, the atmospheric production, the intertwining vocal lines in the last 1/3 of the song, and of course those braided 5/4 and 4/4 parts. And something else. Undefinable, but very vulnerable. Really surprised this one didnt do it for ya David!!

That build to the synthesizer and final conclusion is my favorite part. That's where Radiohead's writing excels imo. Tool does it better though, but Radiohead is a close second for building atmosphere and payoff for a song.

This song is nice but hits you very different if you are experiencing very sad moments in your life. The dissonance embraces you and the fake happy ending leaves you with a sad nostalgia feeling...this song just showed me another music face. Before that music was amusement, after that I experienced how can hit you at a deeper level...I don't think there are so many songs capable of doing this for an individual...that was the one for me
@1kdevo6 күн бұрын
A big nostalgia pull with this song. When I hear it now it gives me goosebumps. If your listening to it for the first time today I can see why it might be meh! But for anyone who had the album back in late 90's I'm sure this song is one that pulls you right back there! I love that... It was used on final episode of The Bear season 1 ... great soundtrack for that show.
@Neorigg7 күн бұрын
one detail you missed and that actually makes the song great for me it's the guitar on the right channel (you hear it alone during the intro riff) that plays in 5/4 thoughout most of the song meanwhile the rest of the instruments play in 4/4

A great tune, one of the highlights on OK Computer. I think it's the third verse that really makes the tune, the comeback. Yeah, the tech buzz and transport are themes of the album.

I recommend of Radiohead, something more energetic, like Planet Telex (Inspired by Planet Sound by Pixies), Electioneering, Airbag (if you want something more experimental), Pearly*, Lotus Flower, 2+2=5, 15 Steps, or even All I Need or House of Cards for more soft-heavy-art-electro-kinda rock In live, i'd like recomend you Coachella 2004 Album Glastonbury 1997 Album Album Reading 2009 / Glastonbury 2003 From the Basement (Last 3 options)

Hey, yo David! Love your stuff. Was wondering if you could react to Kid A songs from Radiohead. I have hunch that you might be interested in the song Kid A itself or Morning Bell but I'm not certain yet. The whole album is definitely experimental and I believe it's their most left turn in their music.

This is my fav Radiohead track. Jonny's guitar part in 5/4 on top of the rest of the band playing in 4/4. All the layers, it's an absolutely beautiful song. One listen could never do this song justice, you gotta REALLY listen to pick up on everything going on in this song.

I found this song at first was a bit meh but after listening to it more I liked it a lot better each time, do that a lot with Radiohead. I still will always prefer Radiohead when they're loader and more heavier rock, but I do also really like their songs like this. Didn't expect you to give it as high a score as others, nor did I expect you to like it as much as others, and I got what I thought

Well I was interested to see how you scored Let Down, I didn't think it would interest you very much although I happen to love this song to death (fan = fanatic). You are right though, I think the song does get lost in the shuffle compared to their other songs. I am glad that you look forward to Radiohead songs since, yep, you have no idea what kind of song it will be. Radiohead had been my favorite band for 3 decades, but they have been beat by a certain 3 piece band from Mexico, somehow...
@mostlymotiongraphics21345 күн бұрын
"Just," "Idioteque," "Feral," and "Reckoner" are all by the same band. None of these sound anything like each other. "Pyramid Song" is complex enough that there video essays and academic publications about it. "Weird Fishes / Arpeggi" is an adaptation of an experimental classical composition. If you think they keep repeating the same the same things and everything sounds the same, you don't like these types of music.

I think you'd get the song more if you heard the live version like from Lollapalooza. The guitar and vocal lines are much more distinct and audible. It's one of my favorite Radiohead songs, but the studio version is slightly muddied and covered up with all the layers.

It's the weakest song on the album. It's kind of muddled & messy, even for an album that intentionally used mess & muddle as part of the story. The album itself still sits firmly in my "perfect album" list, though. Each song is better when you listen front to back.

Completely disagree although I could see why it wouldn’t be as liked as other songs from the album. It’s not as dynamic for sure. But I like it much better than No Surprises, Paranoid Android and especially Exit Music.
