Ranking Riordanverse Ships (Part 2)

EDIT: Race and queerness are two different conversations and shouldn't be compared without more depth. I regret bringing race into this the way that I did. I'm sorry about that. While it's true that there are similarities between whitewashing vs blackwashing and straight erasure vs gay erasure, I probably shouldn't have compared "blackwashing" to LGBTQIA+ stuff. I thought it would be helpful for people to understand where I was coming from, but it didn't seem to have that effect and has just brought race into this conversation in a way that wasn't all that constructive. I might have put people of colour in the crosshairs. While conversations about changing a character's race should be had, it shouldn't be in the way I framed it. They are similar, but not the same. In the future, I will put more care into how I include race in these kinds of discussions. But it should be its own discussion, not simply compared to another one. This topic is worth its own nuanced conversation and please keep that in mind as you're commenting. I stand by the opinions I expressed, but there are better ways to go about this than my simple 2-minute ramble that didn't explain anything very well. This topic is worth its own video or a place in another video talking about race as it relates to this universe. I get that I said what I said and can't just remove race from it, but despite my comparison, as we continue this discussion, please try to treat these as two separate topics. Yes, they are connected, but it is essential to remember that they are not the same. What applies to one does not inherently apply to the other. Okay, about Reynico, I now realize I was a little insensitive and should probably just let people ship what they wanna ship. I still stand by what I said as part of the reason why I really don't like the idea of them as a couple, but I guess just ship whatever relationships you want. I don't like the idea of representation being erased, because you're erasing what it means to some of the people who read it. Straight representation is front and center in almost EVERYTHING. Gay representation, especially in books similar to the Riordanverse, is not that common. That's why gay representation shouldn't be erased while straight representation can be. But since this fandom as a whole still does such a wonderful job of celebrating diversity, I guess that's not really something we have to worry about right now. The Riordanverse fandom does SUCH a good job at celebrating diversity that less popular ships like Reynico aren't really a threat to the diversity in the story or the fandom. So I guess I shouldn't be mad at people for shipping Reynico in this situation. Sorry.

Honestly I've now come to see the whole erasing sexualities thing with a bit more nuance, because I know now the ways that bisexuals (or really anyone who doesn't fit the rigid gay-or-straight labels) can be erased even within their own community. But there are probably some who Nico as straight and I would really prefer that they didn't.
