I tried the Last Chance dmeo for Nioh 2. Holy shit. It's good but jesus christ has it got a lot of new stuff for you to keep track of, as well as there being a much larger enemy variety which do not care one bit about your veteran status. This is gonna be glorious.

@@FiendMatadorSlayerOfNoobs I totally agree! I played the alpha and those new yokai realm shifts are not for the faint of heart. My biggest take away is that the bosses seem way more engaging mechanically and better designed overall. Nioh's overall boss quality was lacking in the first game, but so far it really seems like they are addressing that with the sequel. Hope it all shakes out!

He didn't play this game, he didn't experience this game. He completely nullified his own point about giving the game a chance with is own identity by using a fucking cheese build on a stream instead of actually playing the game.

Nioh is really amazing tbh. It's nothing like Dark Souls overall. It probably has the sharpest learning curves of all "souls like" games. Because of all the mechanics you need to master. Not all the bosses are horribly difficult but they are interesting and you can fight them multiple ways, multiple weapons, multiple skills and stances. Which is awesome

I'm glad you don't base this off of the toughest bosses at the end, it's usually the bosses at the beginning when you're low leveled and unexperienced that destroy you over and over. The Nue and the holes in the dock were the worst for me this entire game, until Hanzo and Okatsu fight which just about drove me nuts.

@@anonlvl1957 yeah, i think that the beginning is difficult cause you have to get comfortable with the gameplay, it's really different from all the others souls game. The rest of the game is easy as you'll get used to the combat system (although i died like 40 times to the guy with the rifle and the cool green bird). The final levels are medium for the enemies get tougher and stronger. The dlcs are just full of strong enemies and bosses

For sure. I was hyper-aggressive against most bosses and got to a point where I tried to melt them as fast as possible. The bosses in part 2 took BIG advantage of that.

@@theDeModcracy Being aggressive is really how Nioh should be played. It just takes a lot of time to figure out what is the perfect balance of aggressive and defensive without being greedy or passive. On the higher difficulties if you're at full stamina you're not being aggressive enough xD

Nioh gets much more enjoyable if you're good at Japanese history - this way most of the bosses' names ain't just some difficult to pronounce shit but do have a lot of meaning instead. Especially if we're talking about Oda Nobunaga - when I finally got to him, facing such a monumental historical figure and warrior gave me real chills! And Ishida Mitsunari, Tokugawa Ieyasu's main opponent, is much more than just a weakling. Also, when the monk Tenkai reveals that he's actually Akechi Mitsuhide, it's really surprising - if you know who Mitsuhide is and what was his real story. P.S. Btw, it's YoshiTSUGU, not Yoshigitsu :)

One of the things I really learned to appreciate in my repeated runs in nioh was the yokai water pot. For human bosses using living weapon, you can completely drain their ki with 1-4 throws and get a free grapple on them and do spearfall loops to keep them down. That paired with my use of the red demon set made quite a few of the human bosses a joke without sloth, especially some of the harder ones like date masamune. The only human boss I couldn't use this strategy against is maria

What has me howling as I watch this video is just how much DAMAGE deMod is doing. I was doing pathetic damage for most of the game, even when I did do a WoTW scrub build. Maybe I wasn't aggressive enough but maybe that would be because everything was oneshotting or twoshotting me since I didn't invest as much in Life.

Dude I feel you, but nothing compares to the optional side missions that have him and the dragonfly guy together. All of those are like doing the dream versions in Hollow Knight! The Oda and Yuki one in particular almost broke me.

Mitsunari on harder difficulties was a living nightmare for me. His stamina was only best reduced and could be staggered with stabbing attacks but his own attacks at that point could easily stagger you and 2-shot your health.

That's why some players uses the little cliff on the edge of the arena to make him do a plunge attack and then hit him 2-3 times. Rinse and repeat and he'll go down with ease. Or, you could just act like a real samurai and kill Him the old good way

Personal difficulty rankings for Nioh will vary more than in Souls, purely because of how (in)effective some builds are against certain bosses. Still feel you did a great job with this one. Very interested to see where you put Hino-Enma. That screaming stun-slut wrecked me countless times.

Turns out screaming stun-bitch has a sister of sorts in Nioh 2, the Ubume and the Nure-Onna. And they're normal enemies. WHich means you can never escape. Fucking ouch.

Gotta know how to properly dodge those screams. Don't roll, sprint directly left or right. She'll miss every time. Dodge in low stance on the dive bomb and don't get greedy when she's on the ground. EZ. I always like hearing which bosses other players have difficulty with. Once you reach Way of the Nioh (last NG+ difficulty) it, like you said, usually comes down to build choice. Or some players just never figure out how to properly use their stances to dodge against certain bosses.

So while yes it's easy if you know how to deal with it, doesn't that go with most bosses? Going in blind for the first time she's really tough.

@@Sarnatuile Hino-Emna is still a damn hard boss. Especially on the first playthrough, but after dying a couple times you should start trying new things. It was pretty easy to pick up on patterns. Personally at close to 800 hours in my difficulty rankings aren't by first run impressions, it's which bosses have stayed difficult throughout multiple NG+ fights after learning all their mechanics to a T. I perfectly understand the average Nioh player isn't going to do it that way, but that makes it easier to give tips :3

Onryoki was probably the first boss I managed to style on, and it wasn't even in the original fight but when he returns in the side mission where you fight three groups of yokai. I got ganked multiple times then suddenly I unlocked ultra instinct and he suddenly could no longer hit me as I turned him into ground beef. The great centipede was probably the first boss I took out on first try which was just multiple drop attacks and then when he separated living weapon flowing to take each and every one down. The white tiger was actually easier than I was expecting but that's probably due to the Nue that was like five feet away that served as practice as he really felt like a higher level nue since they shared very similar attacks. Though could also be that Nue was the bane of my existence and only boss that took me into the twenties to beat and served as my first major wall, and when I just looked up his weakness, packed myself full of water weapons and erased him, the second was goo but that's because I kept falling off the battle field.....that was embarrassing

Now granted I’m not an expert on these games, but I feel like calling the Jorogumo a Quelaag rip-off is a bit inaccurate. These are Japanese games, and the Jorogumo is an actual Japanese myth about a spider woman creature. So it’s more like Quelaag was the Jorogumo reference the whole time, and this game just tore off any pretenses and just gave you the actual yokai.

for info, NOT taking fire buff against umi bozu makes the add jump through fire and die, so yeah, better use an amulet or basic dmg for more comfort on the fight. also at this point you have the fire breath mask, you can basicly trivialize it being nude and using the mask. never did it myself because i'm the "more useless chalenge on first run" type of guy, so yeah, our ranking is diferent, mostly because i had the great idea of going only base looking ninja gear (basicly only ninja gear even if i ended up with lvl 7 sandals at the end of my playthrough xD) no living weapon and no magic outside of the elemental talisman. so yeah, had a realy fun first playthrough doing that, and obviously dificulty coming from this kind of run where diferent. but honestly, bosses arnt much until at least NG+, and they basicly all require a damn lot of focus once you start to play on higher "ways" with dlc, not gonna lie, i stoped before the last dificulty settings because the farming was too long and my gear woudn't let me deal any decent damage after ng +++. even if that paralysis trap ninja gear was fire tho, melted alot of double bosses mission like if it was a random encounter. loved that part of the endgame. curently running over nioh 2NG+, loving it, builds are great, balance of magic and ninjutsu and the lack of possibilities to abuse the invincibility like nioh1 makes it way more rewarding to me. magic weapon spaming was funny for a while, but honestly it trivialized too much of the game to me, same as sloth, so even end game never used those builds. but tbh ninja builds on nioh 2 are cheesy as fuck i didn't thought it would be that powerful when i started doing my usual ninja first playthrough. now i'm rocking those tonfa and boys its fun. nioh 1 and 2 are great honestly, just, please, dont think its a souls like game, it is not, just because it have a bit a tricky level design, and is a tiny bit requiring you to understands the game mechanics and respect them, it does not make it a soul like, it is a whole game on its own. especialy nioh 2 with the new variety of gameplan going with yokai shift, the anima gauge, playing around it, the customisable skills perks, yadi yada, the min maxing is realy a key point of the game that souls like do not have, so don't try the game thinking of a soul like game or you'll be dissapointed. and yeah, i love both, souls and nioh games, they are just completly diferent in their approach.

One of the biggest flaws I feel is the over reliance on gear over skill. You destroyed Ishida Mitsunari in seconds but for me it was a 2 hour struggle because I was undergeared as hell.

I agree. This game is fun when you're on par/properly geared, but feels frustrating when bosses are one/two shotting you and you're barely scratching them. That's what my first playthrough was like. Taking the time to get geared makes a world of difference. It wasn't too bad either. I just hopped in side missions and farmed revenants for 30 minutes every 4-5 main missions to make sure I was keeping up. Can be annoying for those looking to avoid the grind though. All this said, I do think skill plays a role, but it is very dependent on gear as you mentioned.

Tbf hes using what I believe is the highest DPS wep, but for sure hes using a bunch of debuffs to make fights easier like sloth (cuts their movement and animation speed by half). So yeah it looks easier for a reason.

@@AlbertKreuger my advice is don't rush it. A lot of people tried to blitz through the game and would get burned out before finishing it, then a while later they'd start from the beginning. I got burned out a few times over the course of my playthrough, and if I went a few weeks or months without playing it, I'd just pick up where I left off

The game really takes off after you hit Nioh's version of NG+ in my opinion. Because in NG+ it does more than raise the difficulty in terms of enemy health and damage. Enemy placement in missions is different, some enemies and bosses get new attacks, some enemies are permanently buffed with special status effects.

The reason you melted all the damage based bosses that dont have much health is probably because you were really good at using the high stance kusarigama effectively

I tend to lean toward more aggressive playstyles, and I think those low HP bosses didn't punish that hard enough to match their squishy nature. You'll see in the second half that my playstyle got exploited by quite a few bosses.

Never finished a souls game but Nioh is hard at the beginning, after you start getting more heal items it's much easier. Pretty much like Sekiro, even thought the latter is more difficult than Nioh but less that DS for me

Nah its harder for sure. All you need in souls is to semi-correctly time circle and then press R1. In Nioh there's so many mechanics at play that you've to really put in effort. Until you've endgame gear with cheese builds or lots of spirit stones that is.

Spoilers: To be fair Kelley you try to find in the entire game is no stronger than the clones in Elizabeth's castle, that really goes to show that if a Clone like thta could dorc the entirety of Japan to it's kneels imagine 100 or a 1000 Kelley's as an army. It's underwhelming fight sure but it goes to show that he is just a vessel.

I also have more deaths on Onryoki than all other bosses combined lmao, I think it's the bane of souls players - I tried to through his spin, which is WAY different in Nioh compared to the souls games, you just need to block some attacks instead. I didn't want to adjust for this and kept trying to "style" on him with rolling and aggression, which is VERY difficult in early game nioh without a lot of the KI-regeneration skills from your talent tree, especially higher KI Pulses and dodges triggering them

For me take you and then decrease your damage by about 10x and then imagine how difficult it would be...For example Date Shigezane is objectively one of the hardest bosses in the game and you didn't even have to learn him because of OP damage. Yuki-onna, one of the hardest bosses in the base game: if I hit her as much as you she'd still be on 80% hp. Are dual swords just weak?

The Demodcracy I've just gotta add, that the difficulty of many of these bosses vary GREATLY on higher difficulties (WotW, WotN especially). Some of the easier bosses become the hardest, and vice versa. Some just become ridicutarded.... the difficulty levels change more than just health and damage. Enemies, especially bosses, gain many new moves, and they predict your moves better. Sloth also becomes almost useless as well. It really is crazy how much of difference the build you use in this game makes. Nearly every boss you found to be trivial were some of the hardest fights for me. Yuki Onna, Saika Magoichi, Ishida Mitsunari and Date Shigezane all absolutely destroyed me. I mainly used a sword in my first playthrough and I put barely any points into magic and my guardian spirit. I'm really interested in seeing which bosses gave you the most trouble now lol.

So, I've just recently started fighting Mitsunari. And I must say, he feels like the epitome of "devastate or be devastated." I have entered the arena at least 15 times and only one of them I managed to get him past half health. Several of them I died before even landing a single blow. Some rng makes it so that his initial flurry sometimes hits me with the last attack, but when it doesn't I often just got hit by the singular swipe he often does after, and that also instantly applies the status. His ki is very easily devastated, and the flurry usually gives a large time to buff, but if he manages to actually attack he attacks really quickly. I even had one death where he grappled me, did an attack, and literally before I could do anything as I was mashing the dodge button, he just did it again. I should note that I'm using the exact same weapon as you, since it's the weapon you get as a reward for the Kusarigama dojo mission, but my armor set is a light armor set rather than medium. His weapon buff, a living weapon, actually can go down, and I think it happens when you deplete his Ki.

Really glad you came back around to this gem. I love the combat mechanics even if some of the systems break the game entirely. Its totally true that if you don't take the time to realize the importance of your tools and play it like a souls game you are likely to have a bad time. Even if you're underleveled taking full advantage of your tools really plays a big difference. Sloth and the defence reducing spells are pretty OP. I will say endgame (like NG+ 7) they start becoming more resistant to them if you cared to challenge yourself further but can definitely trivialize pretty much all the base game. Also living weapon builds are pretty nutty esp with Kusuragama. Super high DPS.

I'm glad as well! I would've missed out on a great game had I not. Great points all around - totally agree. I did make my way into NG+2 and noticed the duration of magic effects was shorter. Bosses seemed faster as well. I'm sure it only gets harder from there. I would go on, but I'm saving myself for Nioh 2.

I wouldn't recommend grinding their considering it would take too long and nioh 2 is 2 weeks away. But aside from that really good job on the video and I'm glad you came back to this amazing game.

They did tone down some of the magic and ninjutsu options that kinda broke Nioh 1 but added a nice collection of new stuff to supplement. It's April 14, 2022 from where im from and im currently playing Nioh. im not sure how this can help but ill just put it out here anyways. every room on the great centipede stage has a lump of rock that emits poison. you need to turn on the fan to absorb the poison - allowing you to roam the room without getting poisoned and then locate said rock and destroy it. the same thing applies to the actual boss fight. locate that lump of rock that emits the poison, destroy it, and you can focus on the boss itself

Hey, Demod, I'm probably not the first to say this, but the fires (when lit) prevent the small blobs from spawning. If you use talismans to buff yourself with fire instead of using the beacons, the fight becomes a lot smoother.

Fun fact. For Honda, if you have bombs of some kind ( The biggest most explosive one) there is an area near the boss room where you can throw the bomb, and destroy a crystal before you even go to the boss fight.

For anyone that struggled with the centipede, the body parts that run around are the reason the gas stays later in the fight, so kill as much as you can in a section and you'll have an area on the ground to fight

fun fact about the onyroki fight if your standing right next to his balls while in phase one when he attacks with them before they even leave the ground they will deal damage making attacking him from behind a little bit more tricky as you have to pay attention to where your standing.

It's actually better NOT to use the fire buffs in Umi Bozu's arena, and just bring items/spells that add fire damage to your weapon. Why? The lit fires will insta-kill the adds Umi Bozu summons during the fight. If you get a fire buff via one of the arena fires, that fire goes out and no longer kills add spawns.

As a big fan of Nioh some comments: Sloth is total bullshit, it's true. I was really surprised to see the Obsidian Samurai so high: he's the only boss in Nioh that I've never lost to aside from Derek (To the obvious question "What about Honda" I died on my first attempt due to having issues DPSing through the regen of the Amrita crystals and him actually hitting really hard if you're just trying to dps crystals and facing away from him). You can stop the poison of the centipede by breaking the small section that's left behind on one of the holes in the ground (in a position like the rocks you've already had to break to progress). He's also someone I'm surprised to see so high: he can't combo you to death like nearly every other boss in the game can and he's not all that good at punishing healing. The ogress in the top half? Really? She's way easier to stay behind and pummel than a ton of bosses on this list. Finally I know there's little to no Quality discussion in this video but Umi-Bozo has got to be by far the worst boss in Nioh: For one the constant threat of falling into the water, the fact that he has a oneshot, the fact that his design wants you to bait and attack his weakpoints after slams but it's easier to just wail on his body and the fact that getting fire from the pyres that you've put the effort into lighting primarily serves to allow adds to spawn and there's no real indication of this.

100% agree, most unfair boss outside of the dlc bosses. Floor 31 Roadblock. Spam, spam, spam debuff magic missile no matter how far away from him you are, shrugs off Sloth runs around like he has ADHD so you cannot combo him, then when you think you are on top of him he dummys blockable guardian spirit attacks then five seconds later an unblockable guardian spirit grab attack that kills you with one hit. Totally smash your controller against the wall rage inducing.

The giant centipede has a very simple strategy. Just go to the higher ground to the left at the start of the arena, then you wait until he attacks with his head, hit him a few times then repeat. He won't chase you and just stand there attacking. After a while he will switch sides and you repeat: dodge projectiles, dodge the head attack then get a few hits. It does take quite some time, but it's almost a foolproof strategy.

I absolutely love the new weapons but for me after a few missions with each i felt myself drifting back to the triple sword style I used all the way through the first one. I'm so glad you went back to Nioh man. It's definitely a big adjustment coming from the Soulsborne games but it's an amazing game in its own right with a super complex and satisfying combat system. I was really disappointed that you weren't feeling it back in 2017 but it's cool that you revisited it and enjoyed it. But I have to say, Ishida Mitsunari at number 33 is absurd. He's a top 5 hardest boss IMO, and I consider myself pretty good at this game. You weren't even over leveled or anything, I think you just got a little lucky with the attack pattern because he has the potential to be an absolute nightmare. Or maybe the kusarigama just totally melts him. I was using an odachi which does big damage but is very slow and can't stun lock enemies the way the kusi can.

@@liamace1107 Except here's the thing: Muneshige and Honda are the only two enemies in the game with unblockable attacks that aren't grabs. (excluding giant laser beams of course.) And Muneshige has 3 of them, two of which are one shot caliber. The two as a pair are an absolute nightmare based solely on their personal mechanics. They can just decide you're dead and there isn't much you can do about it. Especially on much higher difficulties.

@@joeb1955 I honestly never had much difficulty with them compared to many others because Muneshige is so fast he'll just stay on you but Tadakatsu is a lumbering old man so you can just deal with Muneshige at the other end of the field from his friend. Combos like Oda Nobunaga + Yuki-Onna, Otani Yoshitsugu + Ishida Mitsunari and Okatsu + Hattori Hanzo were all harder for me in the base game because they all have complementary moves. The ninjas don't let you breathe at all ever, the husband and wife shoot non stop elemental at you and the other combo has them both shooting endless air beams at you. In Dlc you have stuff like Date Masamune and Sanada Yukimura.... the hardest thing I think I've ever seen in any video game.

@@liamace1107 Oda and Yuki was one of the easiest for me. You can keep them separated indefinitely and lock him in melee to prevent his elemental attacks and she's a walk in the park. I can face tank her without taking any damage at all. Okatsu and Hanzo is a middle finger to the player because she just drop kicks you to death while Hanzo paralyzes you constantly. Masamune and Yukimura are two of my most favorite bosses to fight and their combo fight was as challenging as it should be given the difficulty of the two bosses in their own right. Still love doing that one.

It's interesting how random such a list feels for Nioh. My experience couldn't be more different. I see much more agreement in similar lists for games like Bloodborne, Sekiro or Elden Ring. I have the impression that Nioh bosses "reward" certain builds and punish others, even more so than Soulsborne games. Or maybe it's also the rng gods' fault that our experiences vary so much.

The poison in the great centipede arena can be permanently cleared after you break it apart and one of the segments stays and generates the gas, destroy that segment and the gas is cleared until the centipede regrows then repeat

I find it weird that you rank bosses like the Centipede based upon your first playthrough, but Yuki Onna on your playthrough once you mastered the game mechanics. Overall, I can't agree with the ranking that much. Yuki Onna and Date Shigezane are still the absolute bane of my existence. Whereas bosses that haven't even been mentioned yet (Nue, Ogress) are pretty easy in my opinion. But yeah, different playstyles - different experiences. Overall very enjoyable video. :)

Yuki Onna the the easiest boss for me. You can bait her attacks in a pattern that allows you to beat her without taking damage. Just gotta find that rhythm. Shigezane is legit one of the most brutal fights in the game. He's way too aggressive for how wide of a reach he has. Almost no openings to properly get reliable damage on him.
