After just 1 month of use in construction. It was great. Untill the locking/unlocking tabs got dirty and filled with dust. It was impossibe to unlock and tear down the boxes. My fix was a small amount of lubricant. The main boxs besides the milkcrate are all gasket seald so they definitely survive in the back of a truck in the rain 👍

One of the plumbers I work with has the full Milwaukee pack out and the only upside comparatively speaking is that blue tooth speaker he has. Other than that not much difference in effectiveness. Thank you so much for your insightful videos on rolling tool storage systems. I just purchased two Rigid systems for my 24 yo son to store & transport his mobile DJ accessories (extension cords, surge protectors, computer cables, etc.) He is hard on his stuff so I wanted something tough and waterproof for him to lug accessories across rough terrains (fields, snow, gravel parking lots, stairs). He has been using backpacks and duffel bags which requires him to make multiple trips between his car and the venue to set up and take down his equipment. I'm hoping the RIGID rolling system will make his life easier and also help him keep his accessories organized (and also keep them out of sight when they are being stored in our garage.) Now I'm looking at the Husky system for the family mechanical & woodworking tools that we store in our garage. We will be moving the system around the garage, depending on the project. I don't see us transporting our tools outside our property, so I don't need the toughest system. But I do want a variety of boxes, like drawers & cantilever options. So for those reasons, I have ruled out the HF system. Thanks again for all the good information you share in your videos.

How do you use the Bauer? Occasionally or everyday? These are smaller than Milwaukee. I’ve had my Milwaukee for a couple years now. I use it everyday and have found the 2 and 3 drawer to be my favorite. It’s expensive but that just keeps the wannabes buying cheap stuff.

@@davethepius they have drawers now for the 2.0 system. They discontinued their half size organizers because the lids kept cracking. No idea if they're working on a fix. Hand cart unhooks from the boxes so you put your drawers on the bottom. I contacted them to request a few item's like fabric totes and half boxes. The good news is you can mod other boxes fairly easily to work with Ridgid's super simple latch system. It would be nice though if someone could make an adapter plate for simply bolting to whatever you want. I may buy Milwaukee's compact organizers and make a diy adapter for now. Hopefully Ridgid will get with the program but not holding my breath.

I used to do a carpentry work and ironwork when I got out of high school for a few years. I got into sales but I recently took a weekend gig installing melamine closet organization systems and picked this storage system up to keep my work tools all together and stored at home so they are easy to load up when I need them. I have a lot of nicer high end tools at home but for my work tools it's all Ryobi power tools and a lot of HF clamps, bits, hammers, mallet, screwdrivers, pliers, pry bars and some other things. I definitely have some name brand tools thrown in like my Warner painters tool, Diablo saw blades, empire levels and squares etc but so far nothing I've purchased from HF in the last year has let me down. I did however only buy Doyle plyers, Bremen clamps and vice grips, Bauer and Hercules bits etc so I'm getting the best HF has to offer but it's a really good value. I don't really use socket sets at work but the socket set I have is TEKTON. Pretty much all of my automotive tools are TEKTON and they are the best value I've found.

Truly, of all the ones I like the Craftsman TradeStack. They have a Tote that works like a crate, and the huge Tool Bag that beats any bag on the market, even Husky, hands down. Still waiting on their organizer box but its got a T-Stack adapter for that. People say the plastic latches are a deal breaker, but actually they work quite well.
@TrippyMushrooms2 жыл бұрын
Guess yo in don't go up stairs much or throw them in the back of a truck. Whatever they got going on on the back of them it gets stuck on stairs. And the latches pop off. And the pull handle broke the firs time it fell over. Packout all the way.

@@TrippyMushrooms I'd likev PackOut too, its tough, but the wheels do fall off a lot. VCG ran over TradeStack with a truck, it survived. I seen latches pop off, but they never bend or break, and go right back on perfectly. Gotta think though. PackOut is just too expensive!. Look, its a plastic box. I worked 40 years without plastic stacking boxes, out of tool bags and buckets. Love the boxes. But.... a nice table saw, or a box? A M-12 PEX Tool or a box? A Money Maker or a box? Thats how much PackOut prices makes you think. After all, with plywood and wheels you can make a pretty decent system with the tools you bought instead of the PackOut.

Would I buy individual boxes when on sale at a good price, yes. I will buy anyone's at a good price as I don't need them to stack just to store stuff and lug around. I had been looking at modular tool storage for a while. When talking budget, I'd go Rigid all day long over the cheaper options from Walmart, HD, or HF. Not a fan of the plastic tab style locking, even Tough System 2.0 seems dicey. I have a T-Stac style box from Craftsman that is nice on its own but wouldn't stack it. I went with Packout because of the drawer system and solid locking. Milwaukee is definitely pricey compared to other tool storage options, but compared to road cases marketed to my needs, it's considerably cheaper. I use it for tools, as well as live stage applications. The cases and storage I see used professionally doesn't protect any better, but commands a heafty price.

I just bought a couple boxes of this system yesterday. For the money it's really not that bad, though I do agree the wheels are kinda tiny so it makes it a little more difficult trying to roll up steps, especially if the thing is loaded and weighs a ton. For the money though I really can't complain. It's not a bad system for what it is. I paid about $90 for the bottom roller and the smaller box, whereas I wanna say the Milwaukee Packout is like $140 just for the roller case alone. I will say though that I do love the quality of the Packout system and all of the various boxes and accessories you can get for it, but to be fair it was practically the first major style modular toolbox system to be introduced to the market so they've had more time to develop it to what it is today. I'd definitely get one if it wasn't so astronomical in price. The Bauer system is still relatively new (I wanna say it's only been around for less than a year) so I'm sure in time they will come out with more styles of boxes to add to the system. I'd definitely love to see a drawer system added to it for sure.

The Bauer stack looks a lot like an inexpensive clone of the RIDGID stack. Plastic looks a little thinner and cheaper. The RIDGID interlock system uses 3/16" bent steel stock that flip up nicely. The latches have molded rubber grips so you can use them as comfortable side by side handles. The red plastic handles look like they will break eventually. The RIDGID stack is a superior product at about 5-10% more. RIDGID should be proud that Harbor Freight is imitating them, but not as well.

The problem with HF where I am is the store sucks, it's always messy, unclean looking and never a good stock of the main things needed. Some of the workers really don't care to help. If you ask for something, "if we have it it's in bay 3,5, 7 or wherever they last tossed it. Don't trouble yourself asking when they might get what you need will come in. I've been in HF stores like the one you mentioned, but the one about 2 miles away from me is actually the best one I've been to. Very clean and well organized and the staff are always very helpful and friendly. I guess it just depends on the store manager for the most part. If I'm managing a store, the way the store is organized is a reflection on me as well as the people who work under me. Some managers seem like they follow that basic sense of pride and responsibility, some just don't care. I think that goes for all industries and businesses though.

@@denoftools thank you. My son is working towards an apprenticeship in plumbing and has purchased his cordless Makita tools. He was looking at the Milwaukee stack system but I have him convinced to go with a cheaper stack system that doesn't scream "steal me" when he is at a job site.

I have the Packout system, when I bought it, it had the most stuff that I liked. Problem with all these systems, they all have elements I like and elements that I can't stand. No system is superior in my opinion.

The biggest plus to Packout is it has so many 3rd party hacks. There are 3D printer guys with all kinds of accessories Milwaukee hasn't offered yet.

I agree. There's always going to be something about each mod box system that's amazing and something that sucks. For me I love the Packout because all of the different boxes and accessories that are available for it, but I hate it due to the price. For a system with just 9 of their boxes can cost just as much as a 56" tool cabinet that holds 3 times as much. For the Bauer system I love it because it is relatively cheap compared to the Packout and other systems and you still get a decent quality system. Currently what I hate about it is there still really isn't a huge selection of other boxes and accessories for it, and the wheels are kinda tiny so it makes it hard to roll up and down stairs. That and the locking slides due tend to be a little stiff from time to time, not always though. I haven't really looked into any of the other mod box systems though so I'm not sure how the quality of them compares there.

If my last comment was deleted due to the link I apologize for that. Two points: 1) Will this mate up with the Tactix boxes? 2) Does anyone else see the bottom lid as a potential design flaw, or do you think it is an advantage? What happens if the latches fail?
@robertharker2 жыл бұрын
I don't think the bottom lid can hinge without having to colapse the handle. Maybe not even then

If everyone loves these stacking systems so much, why are they also begging for 9 gauge steel tool chests????

I currently have 4 pieces out of the 5 (I don't have the divider set with clear lid). So far, great. For simple, on the go solution, it's been great. Pros: affordable, tough, love that you can stack in any order. Cons: only having the 5 different pieces to choose from, the largest piece is married to the dolly, no slots to thread a strap through all pieces to secure it. Great for the DYI'er.

I'm not impressed with them. The Craftsman Versastack(Dewalt t-stack in a different color) is slightly lower in price, and I'm already well invested in the former. I have been interested if the Bauer is compatable with the t-stack. My favorite of all time is the Rigid Pro boxes, but I live too far away from the nearest HD to have bought many.
