This video really makes me feel that im not doing stuff wrong. I had a vehicle in similar condition yesterday and it took me 6 hours. FULL of pet hair, dirt and grime everywhere and no steamer... I have been bugging my head thinking that 6 hours was too much but it gives me piece of mind to see the pros like you taking 8 hours. Good job man

You sharing how long your work takes you makes me feel better about myself. I'm currently working for local dealers (10 dollars hourly) that have cars that are usually between 10- 20 years old that never having had real TLC. They rush and ride me and make me feel awful if the smallest thing gets missed. Im saving to get my own equipment and basic setup hopefully by spring.

I watched this today as I’ve just bought a steam cleaner and wanted to pick up some tips, and I’ve watched and enjoyed several of your other videos. One thing I would say is to get a Dyson turbo-brush. On flat surfaces like the boot (trunk) carpet and the backs of seats, it’s extremely effective at quickly removing dog hair.

I’ve been detailing for over a year and still learning but Ive found what works best for pet hair is laundry fabric softener diluted 10:1 with water. Spray on the fabric and let sit for 1-2 minutes and then use a pet hair stone to rake up the hair. Saves me lots of time and energy as well as my sanity. Pet hair removal is a nightmare. I’d rather do my smoke removal than pet hair any day.

How do you do smoke removal
@vaughnharrison19215 жыл бұрын
J & D Motors long and tedious process: if you add that to your arsenal plan and research accordingly. I am expensive to do it but it works great. 1. Use a leaf blower to blow out all the AC vents, 2. Dry foam and detail brush headliner and then shop vac the headliner. 3. Vacuum every inch of the interior. 4. Use tide cold water and drill brush on all carpet and cloth seats. 5. Super clean and detail brush and steamer on all doors, door jambs, dash console, EVERYTHING gets a steam clean. 6. Carpet/cloth extraction. 7. Use Activate on all cloth surfaces. 8. Steam and degreaser on all seat belts. Leather is cleaned with appropriate cleaner and protection. 9. Glass is clean with super clean and magic eraser, then steam. 10. Citrol 266 on all rubber seals. 11. Change cabin air filter. 12. Use a ozone machine as final step with AC on recirculate You will use a lot of product and a crapload of microfiber towels and magic erasers. Pay very close attention to getting all the seat belts, the carpet under the seats and behind the door handles and the head liner. It's a 4-5 hour process for me. Good luck.
@dgkparasite10375 жыл бұрын
For nasty smells like smoke i use Ozium in a can, it works pretty good but for bad smoke smells i change the cabin filters and steam all of the vents + headliner

One thing to keep in mind is conditioning the leather after steaming. This trick works especially well with old brittle leather, but be super careful not to heat it up too much. Too much heat will cause cracking when it cools, but just enough and then an immediate hydration will help rejuvenate it.

Really nice work. I learned some new tricks about using my steamer. I must add though that I was really surprised to see you put your hand into the steam flow, and then while cleaning the car with hot, high pressure steam and boiling water, you are bare foot! If you leak hot water on your foot or while steaming around blast your foot with live steam you can do some serious and incredibly painful damage. I always wear shoes and safety glasses when working with steam. It's dangerous. Please think again, especially when people watch you for guidance, someone could easily burn themselves, and steam burns are among the most painful. Be safe, be careful, be well. Thanks for the cleaning tips.

I have pets at home too. Before I vacuum my carpet, I spray it with a 10/1 solution of fabric softener and water and let it dry for 15-20 min. The fabric softener breaks the static that "glues" the fur to the carpet and helps the vacuum pick it up.

Did I read Saskatchewan on your license plate? Good detail. Steaming saves a lot of time. I personally use an air gun and APC. You should consider investing in a pet hair stone (pumice stone) and a pet hair brush. Use the stone for main areas of the carpet and the brush for edges so they don't get scratched by stone. Takes fraction of the time of a carpet brush. You can also invest in a drill brush kit. They're a game changer, I got 3 colors (different stiffness) with 3 pieces each color off Amazon under $50 Canadian and bought a cheap drill with Lithium ion batteries. What kinda vacuum do you use? Does the Meguiars Glass Cleaner streak at all? I've used several brands and most of them do streak. I find temperatures effect how they work too. Could be the IPA in them.
@TheDetailGeek5 жыл бұрын
Yep I’m from Saskatchewan! Definitely going to look into a pet hair brush. I did buy a drill brush kit and it works great! My vacuum is called a “central vac”...it’s a VacuFlo and is wall mounted down in my basement. Nope the Meguiar’s glass cleaner doesn’t streak...I find it’s more a function of the type of towel you’re using rather than the cleaner itself...those all seem about the same these days.

i just got myself a little handheld steamer and i am already impressed what it can do. for such basic functionality, with a bit of common sense, one can truly make dream work without breaking the bank. but when it comes to projects like deep clean a car, i still think a delicate steamer is way better, just buy a secondhand one and sell afterwards, (heck why sell if it works well, you can always keep using it). For pet hair removal in carpet my go to is a pumice stone, wiping all in one direction. Works incredibly well. It does shed a bit of grit so to say but that is easy to get with a vacuum. Give it a shot!

how much do you charge for a complete interior and exterior detailing?

Do you need to spray out excess water every time you start using your steamer? I've been reading reviews to see if I want to purchase it.

Yes, only when it’s been sitting for a min or longer....only takes a second though.

A steam cleaner would definitely be useful for housecleaning too so I think I’ll get one. I heard that they do well in removing odors also.

Great video! I didn’t see what type of vacuum you were using… Just interested in how much suction power it has or what type it was if it was something other than a normal vacuum with a special hose.

so would it take a normal person a week to detail car? I am looking for a steam to clean floors etc. did you steam clean the rugs so they would be sanitized? I guess this was not your car. How much do you charge if the car is not this bad. where could I find some one to do this Great video. I am glad you did speed it up

Hey brotha. Had a couple questions for you. I’m a 19 year old kid in College (California) and want to start detailing cars. 500 business cards for $10 would do the trick for advertising (leaving them on doors in my city)... but how does it work after that? The person drops the car off at your house, you clean it, they pay you (cash? So not taxed) and then they pick it back up? I see mobile auto detailing but I don’t have the money for a 10 K little trailer. Thanks!

Hey Nick, yes customers drop their vehicle off with me and just have a friend/family member pick them up and drop them off later (roughly 7-8 hours) when the vehicle is done! I accept either cash or e-transfer before they get the keys back. Yes you should be claiming it as income, but keep in mind you have expenses that go along with that, and if you’re just starting up it’s likely you wouldn’t actually turn a profit (for tax purposes anyways) for a while. I honestly think home-based is way easier to start out because like you said, you avoid needing all the equipment to haul around.

Would you use the steamer on carpet with a carpet cleaning solution if they needed cleaned or shampooed?
@TheDetailGeek5 жыл бұрын
Yes I believe you can use a steamer on carpet, I just don’t have any experience doing that...not sure how it would compare to using an extractor but I have to think the extractor would be far more effective.

I have two GSDs which are notorious shedders. I have a dual Variocage crate that they ride in about four times a week! You’ll rarely find a single hair in my vehicle. It’s all about coat maintenance on the dog, brushing before rides, and vacuuming regularly (after every two trips that involve the dogs)

Came here for the steamer how to and noticed the No Shoes Nation flag on the wall. Love it. I'm a huge Kenny Chesney fan.
