I'm surprised you haven't fabricated a 45° rack (think: slantboard) on which to pressure wash the dirty mats so all the filthy wash water drains off immediately rather than requiring numerous passes with the wand. To hold the mat to the rack there would be a large spring-loaded clip at the top similar to clamp/clips sold in office supply stores for clipping together a stack of papers. It would also have a slanted catch pan under it to funnel the water and dirt into whatever catchment/drain system you choose. This would also keep your shop floor much cleaner as you are working.

Stuff like stain removal, not cleaning under the seats, mould treatment; yeah that could be the bad job. The fact there is a smokey, ashy smell to the inside, its full of trash, well that's on the owner. She should have got her money back and gone to a new detailer. I wouldn't accept anything less than perfect for the money I'd pay for one. I'd kick up a shit storm about it and I'm in the UK, a very nod with a grimace and a thank you type view to customer service. The US has a very customer centric view, if the previous detailer did infact not do a decent enough job (as the examples I stated), that for me would be a good enough reason to be going 'Karen' on them for it. All that trash though is on her. It wouldn't kill to put a trashbag in the car, and hoover it out once a week/fortnight. I get depression and big messes become overwhelming very quickly, hell I've just recently done a depression clean of my own as it does hit a breaking point. Maybe that's a reason it got so bad, but still.
