I remember watching this video when it came out. Listening now I can physically HEAR the emotion behind the story, and the sadness. I may be the only one, but I'm happy you killed this series. Looking back, I can see how it took its toll on you mentally and emotionally, and I'm so happy your quality of life has improved since then.

Same here man, I used to sit in my bed, binge watching these series as a 11-12 year old, with pure excitement. It still pumps me up to hear stories like these not going to lie, but now that I’m a little bit older, and understand how serious PTSD is in our community, I 100% understand why he cut off the series.

These stories are truely humbling. They really make me realize how fortunate I am to live in a country where people like you are brave enough to go somewhere and do something like that. I would be truely useless in situations like what you talk about it's amazing that you could handle it. Thank you for your service.

I'm a vet from the Navy and I while in the Persian Gulf we were hit by an rpg by two insurgents on a rhib boat. When they did that, the admiral allowed open fire and by the time we stopped shooting, the rhib boat was done and they ocean was dark red. I can still remember it clearly

the self frag is real. I took some fragments in Hit in 05 from my own 203. At that time the muj there liked to booby those shitty sheet metal doors all the building had, so I got in the habit of opening them with an hedp 203. This time it was an interior door though, so not a lot of room. First round doesn't go off because I'm too close for the arming distance. I take a step back and try again, goes off and opens the door, cool. Also some frag cuts the shit out of my hand, and the worst was a piece that went through my boot and hit my big toe, and just stopped in there. Burning the crap out of my toe, I'm cursing and trying to get my boot off, and everyone is looking at me like WTF, because they don't know what's up, I just start yelling and taking my boot off, lol.

hey, my shipdate is october 15, i think i can help with 2 of the questions, from what my recruiter has told me, you most likely can change your mos up until the day you go to bootcamp (thats what my recruiter said, not sure if truth) and if you do it may affect your ship date depending on what job slots they have open. im not sure if it is the same for reservists though. anway good luck man!

Yikes. I was stationed at Firebase Shkin in Paktika province for a while, before my enlistment ran out. When I re-enlisted, I dunno what happened, but by that time Iraq was grabbing headlines so I was sent that way. I still keep in touch with my crew in the 'Stan, and one of them (my gunner Cpl. Justin Porter) actually requested a transfer to Iraq. Dunno why. Apparently some of us are to be transferred to afghan where needed when Iraq "calms a bit," says my CO. Not sure if I believe it or not.

talk to a recruiter, man. if you enlist at the end of junior year (that's what i did), you can almost guarantee the job you want (which is hard to do in the Corps). you learn more about the Corps, get more training and preparation ahead of time, and can work on your leadership, along with more potential for promotion contracts.

Oh I have seen many psychiatrists but never the less I will continue serving with the Royal Marines, I do think doing another tour can help depending on what the situation was, some soldiers can get PTSD from the small things like the thought of killing another person or just being shot at, as for them it could help, but for people who see friends die or IED's it takes time and a lot of therapy.

What my Dad (Vietnam Vet) suggested with all this TSA shit, is instead of using idiots to "frisk" people, use soldiers who know how to do that, and can do it ten times faster. Jobs for returning vets are at an extremely low percent, and TSA is something that they can be put into. Police forces would also be a great thing for military to go into. I know this has no relation to your comment, but it works. And BTW Thanks for your Service.

Oof. Sounds like Hell on Earth. Helmand is notorious for resistance. But, do you think that going back to Helmand the second time help you cope, or numb, to the mental trauma of war? I only ask because I've heard that seeing things in a tour a second time around really helps with PTSD prevention. Also, I suggest you see a psychiatrist, there is NO shame in admitting you have PTSD. It can only help, and no one will look down on you. It takes courage to get help.
@mychaelsullivan12 жыл бұрын
Also, you are not guaranteed anything unless it is in writing. when you first sign up you will go in as open contract until you take the physical because that will show what you are qualified for, from there make sure that any mos that is promised to you is in writing otherwise you are not guaranteed that mos, so goes for anything else they may promise you. dont be afraid to bug your recruiters about it either.. Good luck on your enlistment kid. remember no more apologizes

Yes and no. There are CIA inside the Taliban, but that's quite different. Most SF guys do in fact grow beards, take of pieces of their ACU's, and are trained to operate in towns and areas with civilian population. This isn't to disguise them, but to make them seem more personable and less of a threat to the populace. When I was overseas, most of the guys in my unit grew beards (as did I), and we all learned to speak a bit of pashto/dari or arabic.
