This quote came to me before I was just to drift off the dreams: ‘The road to hell is paved with good intentions.’ Basically, even if she’s has the purest of souls, she eventually drifts down because she won’t say no. She takes all the temptations over and over again even it kills her.
@suzannemenuet9474 жыл бұрын
Which it did (kill her)
@WorldWearyAngel6 ай бұрын
I think its more than that. Her soul isnt innocent. She has a desperate need to be seen and valued. She is the weak soul which is content to be abused as long as she isnt left alone. Content to let the wickedness around her happen to her and others and never stand up because if she s tands up she might stand up alone. and Alone by herself without anyone to value her she feels worthless. "In all my dreams I drown" Sleep is a solitary act. Even if another shares your bed in sleep you are isolated and alone. She cant bare that. She defines herself by how others value her. She lusts after bad boys and villians because they claim to value her. Her empty shallow heart. She desperatly needed to be seen and appreciated. Her fear of lonliness became an apathy that was every bit as sinful as the others.

After listening to this on a loop, I think the interpretation is this: her punishment is that for not learning from her mistakes and being a "helpless" victim, she is trapped as a puppet in a repeating loop. She awakes, is forced to repeat and do everything The Devil says, he promises that she is going to drown, and then she dies. Only to wake up and start the entire process over again. The Devil gives her the opportunity to speak for herself, as there is one verse where only she sings. But she chooses to try and coax him into not killing her by more favors... "The Devil you know is better than the devil you don't" in a literal sense. She seems to be aware she's in a Hell Loop, since she looks right at the camera and acknowledges she knows where she's going... "to the mouth of HELL." Drowning isn't a quick death. He's literally letting her come up for air, and she still chooses to be dragged down to the depths. And she can't pretend she didn't know she was going to drown, since he responds to her plea of "in all my dreams I drown" with "time to go to sleep," essentially warning her over and over that if she chooses to continue, she is going to die. So when she doesn't take the opportunity, he resumes with her as his puppet... And it begins again. It's actually a really fascinating way to musically explain her punishment and I am obsessed with this scene!!

How I really interpret this scene. Is that's she's singing the opposite. She's dreaming, a suppose wonderful relationship, but when force to sleep, it's as if saying she'll wake to a nightmare, or to reality. Especially when Tamara lays back, she opens her hand expecting her lover (the Devil) to hold her hand but instead grasp her wrist forcefully. Instead of saying 'It's time to go to sleep,' - "It's time to wake up from this dream," Tamara begs not to sleep and is willing to do anything, even take to being scolded at so long as she's stays in that delusional vision of hers, even when there's figuratively and literally Hell surrounding her.

Hello? Is anyone there? The ship, it swayed, heave ho, heave ho, On the dark and stormy blue, And I held tight to the Captain's might As he pulled up his trews. "You haven't slept," heave ho, he said, "In many suns and moons." "Oh, I will sleep when we reach shore," "And pray we get there soon." He said, "Now hush love, here's your gown." "There's the bed, lantern's down." But I don't want to go to sleep; in all my dreams, I drown. The Captain howled "Heave ho, heave ho" And tied me up with sheets "A storm is brewing in the South" "It's time to go to sleep" His berth, it rocks, heave ho, heave ho The ocean gnashed and moaned Like Jona will be swallowed whole And spat back teeth and bones He said, "Now hush love, here's your gown." "There's the bed, lantern's down." "But I don't want to go to sleep; in all my dreams, I drown." "Captain! Captain! I will do your chores I will warm your cot at night And mop your cabin floors Scold me, hold me I'll be yours to keep The only thing I beg of you Don't make me go to sleep" The sky it flashed, heave ho, heave ho, His pillow toed to the brink. The curtains ran between my legs as we began to sink. I closed my eyes, heave ho, heave ho, As the ship was rent and fell. Eddies in the water headed to the mouth of Hell "Hush now, hush love, here's your gown." "There's the bed, lantern's down." "I'm begging you please wake me up In all my dreams I...."

On an interview with the actress who plays Tamara at the premiere of the movie, she states that Tamara is in Hell for being naive and gullible. She hands the Scorpion the knife he uses to get out of the cage he is locked inside of; She accepts a ring (even though its only a candy one) from the Scorpion when he steals it from the candy machine right in front of her; she lets him lead her into chasing after him, where when she finds him he is making out with the Painted Doll, and istead of leaving as she suggests she should do and Painted Doll nods in agreement that she should, She yet again lets The Scorpion talk her into staying and locking her onto the wheel where it is the knife she handed him to free himself that he kills her with. She naively and gullibly believes his lies in spite of what she sees and breaks at least 2 of the ten commandments, Thou Shall Not Steal, and Thou Shall not commit Adultry. (Accepting something stolen is akin to stealing it yourself, and even though all he did was lead her on, she would have committed Adultry with him in spite of seeing him clearly involved with another) No matter how we see or interpret it, we are discussing our theories and asking why. Perhaps when it comes right down to it, other than the brilliance of the movie's entertainment value, making us talk about it's deeper meaning is more than any filmmaker could hope for.
@Mad-Hatter-ison10 жыл бұрын
I actually know what is happening in the song and what it suppose to do if it was in the movie and not the credits. After Tamara was shot by her "lover" (not the scorpion, it was her ratty boyfriend) and trapped in Hell, she first thought that whole thing is just a dream. She was saying, "Am I...dreaming?"

IIRC although not said outright, it was heavily implied that her ex raped her. (basically what the song is about) and that's the main reason she was in hell. It seemed like where this song was placed, the devil felt bad for her winding up in hell because of it. Most of the 'main' characters in hell aren't there because they're bad, they were there because they didn't follow one of gods more stupid rules (getting raped, being a lesbian etc) In the second movie they broach more of the heaven story, and half the angels are assholes (Blind devotion god can do no wrong, torturing people for confessions etc)

You know, I was sent this song by someone who hadn't watched the film. They had decided that Lucifer was her dom, and that he was trying to be a responsible dom: make sure she takes care of herself. AKA get some sleep. But there was a problem: what was healthy for her was a boundary to her. Thus, this song about a conflict. Their interpretation was that she'd never drowned: she just finally succumbed to sleep and embraced the nightmares.

@RileyKohler7 жыл бұрын
LunairCinderella Well, I can understand why people would think that, since Persephone and Hades' story has been very warped from the original myth. In ancient texts, Persephone was never naive or taken advantage of like the girl in this video. Persephone was very cunning, and knew exactly what she was getting into when she became queen of the underworld. She and Hades were in love, it was her mother Demeter that didn't approve of their marriage, calling on Zeus to try to bring her back. Persephone was actually said to be the more brutal of the couple, while Hades tended to let people off more easily. So yes, I can see how this video could remind you of what we're TOLD happened in their story, but not the actual story. :)
@simonboyce22356 жыл бұрын
LunairCinderella no that just seems obvious to Me
@shmee123ful5 жыл бұрын
LunairCinderella depending on the version of that myth. Yes this is similar in themeing but we have to remember Hades wasn't an evil God hell out of all the classic Greek gods Nes among the nicest, he's certainly the nicest of his brothers. What people forget is that Hades wasn't the one that killed people that was one of the lessor known gods called Thanotos ( who yes worked for Hades) but it's the same deal as the Angel of death with the jewdaochristian God. And Hades was the ruler of the under world yes. But this wasn't the hell we are more familiar with. There was one really sucky part where all the cruel and ironic punishments and super evil people and beings go. One part which is basically paradise wher all the super good people or at least the great people went. And a place not unlike limbo where nothing bad or good really happened to the souls that dwelled there they just of Rommed the land in a forgetful haze. The Thing with the great faith was only extremes mattered. If you did something really awesome in life , then even if your not a good person you'd get paradise and the same was true of the more hellish region. Only the worst possible sins by Greek metics would send you there. Being a bad host, sleeping with your family members, eating people defying the gods. That kind of thing. Hades in most myths is very rearly a villian more often than not he is just holding on to the heros friend or lovers soul. But not in a devilish way, more that hay death happens and they just show up here. And more often than not because he's "the nice God" he'll give you, your loved one back. Uselly you'll have to do something for Hades. A quest or something or you could just impress him with some talent like music or something. And Hades would be true to his word though the heros always seemed to screw it up. Like say you've just played some music that's brought the lord of the underworld to tears. He'll go " ok buddy you can have your lover back just walk out of my realm with out looking back but don't worry they will be behind you all the way." And the hero will go "ok" and preced to walk out of Hades realm but just as their about to leave but wouldn't you know it. They look back and there lover goes " dammit you dumb ass we where that close, well I guess I'll see you in 80years"

Too bad it's not going to happen. Too many issues with Alleluia led them to shelve the third part. American Murder Song is their next project.

A dark song and performance from the March, 2012 movie from an actual filmed theatrical performance called "The Devil's Carnival", in which Jessica Lowndes starred. She is a much more diverse and talented actress than she has ever been credited with being. Her vocal here, paired with "Lucifer", conveys the innocence and trust displayed by her character, only to be betrayed after all. Not light and bubbly at all, this is still an intriguing vocal performance and shows Jessica's willingness and ability to go to places others may fear to tread. This is truly Adrianna Tate-Duncan at her very darkest. 🤫

I like to think this was Tamara's own audition to join the carnival and that she plays a role kind of opposite the Scorpion--as in she seduces all the bad boys who take advantage of naive, innocent girls and then drowns them.

Terrence Zdunich could sing the phone book and I would listen and, I imagine, he enjoyed being Lucifer immensely. Anyway, I'm super curious to see how this ties in with everything else. Can't wait to see this! Hopefully I'll get to go to the showing in Chicago!.

it is just me, or does it look like lucifer is using her as a sort of puppet..? look at the beginning. she tilts her head, and so does lucifer. she starts singing when he does. she puts the lantern when he gestures, and almost seems to be responding to the way he's conducting with his talons. maybe it's just me...

Terrence is a total scene stealer. Did the same in Repo. Love it though!!! Any new news on the second one yet? They had the youtube teaser up for awhile now, but then there has been NO news at all ....

I think this song is better suited as a post-credits scene than early in the show, don't know why. Maybe because we've seen how she died and what happened with what scorpion by the credits so we have a better understanding of what she means by "in all my dreams I drown"
