Legendary: Guardians of the Galaxy Review - with Tom Vasel

I was actually able to beat Thanos in a 4 player, although it took us like 5 or 6 tries lol. We played with the guardians of the galaxy as our heroes Original shield officers, wounds, and bystanders Villain deck had infinity gems, Kree, and Skrulls. Henchmen was sentinels and savage land

I beat Thanos first try with 2 players. One player only got strong enough to punch him once, but instead used that power to clear the city. The other player took him out 4 turns in a row. I got groot's cards that get you 2 shards AND let you use them as money if you want. I loaded up on other cards that refilled my shards quickly. With groot's cards that let you use the shards for money or attacking, I was able to get Gamora's primo card and Groot's primo card in one deck. By that time, me and my buddy each had an artifact or two and I had enough shards going to use Gamora's 5 shards for 10 attack once a turn. That plus normal attack plus a couple extra shards let me punch Thanos 4 turns in a row.

Just got around to playing this expansion with 4 other players and Thanos was soooo hard. We used the Guardians of the Galaxy and could barely get any traction in the early game. We lost the first time but won the 2nd time in a 2 hour game. I feel like with Apocalypse you either die fast or you are able to grind out a victory over the course of a regular 45 min to an hour game. Thanos on the other hand likes to toy with you before you either die a slow agonizing death or scrounge out a miraculous comeback. Thanos breaks your spirit more than Apocalypse if you loose but Apocalypse can kill you much faster with his devastating Master Strike. Overall I'd say Thanos is harder only because he wears you down faster than Apocalypse and you start to loose all hope where with Apocalypse you either win or you lose rapidly so you don't get as tired of him.

I don't think Thanos is that difficult, though his makes for a long game of people fighting for the gems when they pop out. I have so far been unable to stop Apocalypse from robbing a bank, so I think that's harder. That's the lesson I've learned from Legendary, if Apocalypse or Galactus are trying to rob a bank, just let them.

I didn't think we were going to do it and it looked bleak for a while. But we were able to defeat Thanos with the Guardians and the Forging the Infinity Gauntlet scheme. Though, we did have 3 players. And we got the final hit with 3 cards left in the villain deck. But it was a lot of fun.

How well would the player characters work in Legendary: Encounters? Would it be worth it to pit the Guardians against Xenomorphs?

I'm curious as well, I've never played Legendary but I've been enjoying Encounters a lot and this seems like a great way to mix it up, at least until the Predator stuff starts coming out. Revealing Thanos to be the manipulating force behind Weyland-Yutani sounds fun to me.

I think that Apocalypse is tougher than Thanos in Legendary. I have played against Thanos twice (once with 3 and another with 5) and won both (by the skin of your teeth), but I have faced off with Apocalypse a bunch of times and was only victorious once. They are both a challenge and I won't have it any other way.

Does anyone know if Tom has said whether he prefers Sentinels or Legendary Marvel? I know he loves both but haven't found yet which he likes better..

In his top 100 he rates Legendary a lot higher than Sentinels.

I'm not sure if you still respond to this video but i recently got marvel legendary and added this expansion to it, last night i ended up sleeving all of them. i haven't gotten around to actually playing them but if possible i'd love some explenation on how to use the shards because the 2 different values on each coin's side is rather confusing and i can't find anything explaining when i use the 1 or the other value side of the shards. Thanks for your time.
