I'm glad the quirks of those reviews with remote Mike have been worked out and that the experiment has been fruitful. Always looking forward for reviews with Mike.

As a Knizia superfan myself, I have to say, my first game, I was a bit underwhelmed. I gave it another shot, as everyone should with Knizia games, and it started to open up for me. Mikes comments at the end echo mine. The downside though is that everytime I’ve played and taught this seemingly simple game, there’s always been at least one player who just doesn’t get it or doesn’t get it until the end and I understand that! It happened to me too! I just think it’s unfortunate that some people might bounce off It and not come back. I’ll say though that I’ve played it 5 times now with varying player counts (2, 3, 3, 3, 4) and the 4 player was the toughest one to make good decisions by the end. The board got really full in the last 10% of the game. 2 and 3 were more open, but that didn’t mean that the game was easier. I do have a strong desire to keep playing this, and keep playing with people who have played before. I imagine by game 10 or so, I’ll be ready to flip the board over and use the farmers, or use the herald moving variant. Definitely a lot to explore in this. Gameplay is pretty snappy too at 30-60 minutes depending on player count.

How do you compare this against other Knizia's games?
@dexdouglas9 ай бұрын
I really like it! I’d put it with Babylonia and Through the Desert in terms of tile layers.

This is giving me some Hansa Teutonica vibes. The simple actions and player interactions seem right up my alley

Thank you for the review! I would have appreciated hearing - especially from Mike - where this ranks among Knizia's best regarded "tile-layers".

Mike is the man and I agree knizia is hitting on all cylinders lately. I’m buying everything he’s putting out latelty and it’s all been good. Easy buy for me. Definately my favorite designer lately.

kind of off topic, but does anyone know what game that is on the top shelf in Chris and Wendy's background, with the greenish box cover? The letters are cut off but it looks cool lol

That one is Kabuto Sumo, which does have a super cool cover by Kwanchai Moriya. It's the coin-pushing style game.

I loved the way it looked when it was launched, but saw some comments of the gameplay of Babylonia still being more interesting (yet not that distant) than this, and decided to go for the latter.

Looks cool, but I fear it won't be a Babylonia, to where it will stick around as a hidden favourite.

Nice one with the Simpsons reference at the end, Chris.
@zivpesso62939 ай бұрын
so if you already own Babylonia is this worth getting? if yes, this or through the desert?
@westaylor70789 ай бұрын
I own Babylonia, TTD, Blue Lagoon, Samurai, Tigris and Euphrates etc. I will be getting Cascadero as well. Knizia's best games play fairly quickly and the rules are easy to remember. Every few months I pull one out and give it a few plays. All of these games feel like different flavors of ice cream. I like ice cream but I don't always want vanilla.
@zivpesso62939 ай бұрын
@@westaylor7078 I am aware of Knizia and own some of his games as well and I agree with your statement. I am asking because im just at the point where I want to keep the collection small due to real estate of where to store them and want my collection to have games that have more diversity to them. I am still tempted to get one of these tho and was curious if there is one that is clearly better or at least which one feels more different than Babylonia.
@westaylor70789 ай бұрын
@@zivpesso6293 Tigris and Euphrates is my favorite game so if you haven't tried that Knizia, that's my recommendation. As far as TTD, Cascadero and Babylonia... I really like TTD but it's simple rule set makes most games feel very similar. I think Cascadero would have more variety with the 2 different boards. Just my opinion but I would choose Cascadero over TTD.
@dandurkin97359 ай бұрын
Through the Desert - easy recommendation. It is a proven game.
@KissellMissile9 ай бұрын
I think his four best are T&E, Samurai, Babylonia, and this. Of those two, Babylonia and T&E are the most similar, and the rest have related but different feels.

This or Through the Desert for 2p/3p?
@thedicetower9 ай бұрын
Through the Desert's map scales down for smaller player counts, but both are solid. Ultimately, it depends if you want a more "pure" abstract like Through the Desert or if you want tracks and cascading bonuses found here. ~Chris

Knizia has a very minimalistic design philosophy, I tend to like a lot of his games because of that but I agree that a lot of them would be overlooked if not for the name on the box.
