george building those 2 coals at the end of canal era was a big mistake. he gave the other two easy coal for rail and gave up first turn in rail.

Why did none of them go for cotton? Can you not base cotton games around just one merchant, especially if you're the only one doing cotton? Seems like lower left section would have been great for a cotton strat.

But then you have to build a lot of rails to make that work and ideally you are building rails where other people have buildings, not just onto your cotton buildings, so that you are getting points from stuff they did.

Yuka developed two tiles on his first turn (00:09:00). Is that not illegal?

That move is legal. He did develop action - remove 1 or 2 lowest level industry tiles, and pay one iron for each.

Personally I don't like to develop on turn 1, because this is easy free flipped iron for one of your opponents almost guaranteed.

I consistently score 170-190 in Brass Birmingham when I focus on buildings. My highest Brass score ever was 223.

I also found the early scouts interesting - but I must comment that one cannot overstate enough how challenging it is to play a game for 12+ hours straight at a competitive level (of which we're now watching the end of that marathon)! I was in the finals in '22 and, with all due respect to Josh and my fellow competitors, my greatest adversary was fatigue and my brain turning to 'mush' on a level I've never experienced previously. Any critique of a persons gameplay must take that into account!!

Really using 1-era Cotton Mill isn''t good in pro-game? I'd be tempted to build Cotton Mill in Stoke-on-Trent or in Redditch, and sell it with two Manufactired and two Brewery? Or Pottery in Coventry, but this will be high cost.

1 lvl cotton costs 12 pounds. Gives you 5 vp. But there are lvl 2 manufactured goods, which will give you 10 vp overall because it sticks longer. Also, it helps to flip your iron. Of course it gives you more income, but I would rather invest into lvl 3 iron which will bring lots more vp.
