I just bought it 1 week ago. I have not had a chance to play it yet. Thanks for the review Tom. Now I am pleased I spent the money for it.

The 3-player variant is the Deputy, Outlaw & Renegade (w/ no hidden roles)
@Brend0ver11 жыл бұрын
Tom, great review, but one rules mistake. The Renegade must be the last player alive in the game (so he/she must kill all outlaws/deputies/other renegade, then kill the sheriff).
@Mie00711 жыл бұрын
This is not true, because the deputies loose if the sherif dies.
@Brend0ver11 жыл бұрын
M Woodman Check the rules: www.dvgiochi.net/bang_the_dice_game/BANG!_dice_game-rules.pdf It says, "End of the Game The game ends immediately if: a) The Sheriff is eliminated: If a Renegade is the only one alive, he wins. Otherwise, all Outlaws win as a team. b) All the Outlaws and Renegades are eliminated: The Sheriff and all Deputies win as a team. Note: In an 8-player game, each of the two Renegades plays on his own, and wins only if he is the last player alive. If, in the fi nal stages of the game, the Sheriff is confronted by two Renegades and the Sheriff is eliminated fi rst, the Outlaws win!".

I bought this game a week or so ago as a filler game. I did a pickup game with 3 non-gamers at work and they loved it. It took about 2 minutes to explain the rules and played in about 12 minutes. These guys really got into it! I don't know if it would replace BANG! in my core group when we are looking for that full experience. This will be how I introduce BANG! to new players in the future though.

There was a Bang-clone called Samurai Sword released recently which is really worth checking out if you're looking for a bang-type experience, streamlined.

We play Bang! with the Samurai Sword rules (using poker chips for reputation) to keep everyone in the game and to cut down play time. It's great!

That sounds like a great idea ! I assume the SS rulebook can be found on pdf ? Nice touch with the chips ;)

I believe so, but if you go to BoardgameGeek.com, rules can be found under the game.

That's a great idea. I will give it a try next time we play! Gold Rush has the phantom player rules but it doesn't really fix the player elimination issue...

mmm... Is it possible to combine dice with Bang the card game? I bought the one without dice. (I did notice they sell the dice in store separately). I understand the arrows may not work with the base game if you just buy the dice.
@DeVissy11 жыл бұрын
After reading the rules and play a play-test, I come up with a bit change in objectives/winning condition for the roles in 4-8 players game, which is The Renegades only have to eliminate all the outlaws first and then eliminate the Sheriff for the win, they don’t have to be the last player survive in order to win. I think it make the game more balance for all the roles. To summary (clear and simple): - The Sheriff and Deputies win when all the outlaws and renegades are eliminated. - The Outlaws win when the Sheriff is eliminated. - The Renegades have to eliminate all the outlaws first and then eliminate the Sheriff in order to win.

Actually, the detective work comes into play when you have All of the outlaws dead, but there are still Renegades out there. The Renegade needs to be the VERY LAST person alive when the Sheriff dies, so he's going to be impersonating a Deputy until he's alone with the Sheriff. Especially interesting when there are still 5 players left alive, yet with all the Outlaws killed; the sheriff, 2 Deputies, and 2 Renegades. You'll have 4 people claiming to be a Deputy.

I realsie this review is very old but as this is the channel I go for reviews and advices i hope someone will spot my question. Me and my friends, we are what you might call casual board gamers. We like playing party games and we are in deduction games. We like one night werewolf, The Resistance and Coup. Now we are looking into more dice involving games so we stopped on King of tokyo. But now that I see Bang the dice game it would seem there is a bit deduction here, more room for betrayal and a lot of fun. So in short my question is: what would you guys recomend to us. Bang the dice game or King of Tokyo?(I know both are good, but which one should we get first?) Also maybe it's valuable information that we are a small group. We usualy play 4-5 people. Rarely go over 8. If any of the game scales better with small groups it would be better. (It will be a nice option to be a good game for 4 people and 8 equally) Thanks in advance. :)

I had King of Tokyo and I sold it. Almost no one in my gaming group liked it. It's a kids game :) My group also loves the games that you love, just yesterday we played Avalon until 3AM :D So maybe you should try this game :)
@Galloglaoch10 жыл бұрын
Just an update if anyone has the same question as me. :) It's been a while now and we played both Bang the dice game and King of Tokyo, and after we had enough games of both without a doubt I can say that buying Bang the dice game was one of the best decisions ever made. Me and my group just fell in love with the game. It's quick, fun, room for betrayal.... it's awesome. The first time we played it we played it for hours, we couldn't stop. It was just so much fun. King of Tokyo on the other hand, well it's a good game but we didn't really like it. We felt like there was not enough time to build up your monster with the special powers, not much sense in fighting as you can hide in the back if it needs be. I don't know we just didn't like it. My girlfriend was rolling 3 victory points every time she gets the dice, so maybe thats the reason we didn't like the game. The first game was so quick and anti-climactic that we were hesitant to try it again. We played it a few more times but... we went back to BTDG. tl;dr Bang TDG was awesome! We loved everything about it. Quick, funny, great theme, awesome special powers, every game is different. We didn't really like KoT, we felt there is not enough time for the cards to really come into play, points>fighting, you can win without ever entering Tokyo, no special powers mean all the monsters are the same, not that much interaction tbh, you just do your thing and the others accept it. Since Avalon = Resistance(vanilla) I'm not sure I'll be buying that Bogdan, but vanilla resistance is basicaly the same, ain't it? I fell in love with dice rolling and push your luck so The Resistance has taken a second place after Bang TDG, I strongly recomend it! Cheers! :)
@fanaticc10 жыл бұрын
Well yeah, it's basically the same, just ads roles which I think is a lot more strategy and variants. It's just we really love this game, I've had maybe around 200 games already and I enjoy it every time. But if you like quick games than I would totally recommend to you "One night: Ultimate werewolf", it's quick it's incredibly fun and it takes only 5-7 minutes. Almost everyone loves the game, so far around 6 people I've showed the game went and bought it, it's crazy :D And there is an upcoming expansion which Kickstarter will begin 29th of September, so go check it out :))) And now I am thinking about Bang the dice game, maybe I will get it at some point :))

For those who have played, do you think you could play this game on the road? I have been looking for great games that can be played in the car. (I am a youth minister and have been trying to find games that teens can play on our many road trips. So far Coup has been a huge hit.

I find it is often the case the game ends too quickly. It is a bit of a let down after going through all that set up, giving character roles, reading to everyone what they do, then give a secret role card... And boom, game is over before you have the chance to roll the dice twice.

I enjoy this version Much more than the original. Get the BDG expansion to make it have a lot of flavor and well it’s a better game with the expansion. Which gives you five different scenarios to add. All in all it’s a great game

Great review. I tried to play with 3 people as the first time playing. Didn't like it as it ended too fast and there was little skill involved, no deduction either. I will try again with more people. Also didn't get the rules correct but I don't think this would have mattered.

Simplified variant for my students (ages 10-13): no character cards, no renegades, arrows do nothing and players only roll dice once and exclude two dice.

It's good but not flawless. The complexity rating may be less than 1.5 on BGG but it's not as simple or intuitive as it seems. I tried a simplified version of Bang (no character cards, no renegades, 6 health points to all characters) with my students (ages 13-15) and they didn't quite get it.

This game seems like a downgrade to Bang! I love long games with the original card game. I'm sorry but I am really sick of people wanting more simple games. This game lacks the depth that the original brings. I want to be able to build up my playing field with barrels, guns, and other items. Rolling dice gets so boring.

K Au I don't see how you can really believe that. "hey guys, we're all on a team, except some of us are secretly bad guys, can we figure out who they are in time?" they both belong in that "find the traitor" genre. God bless if you like Bang!, but I just find resistance flows a lot better by removing random chance and player elimination from the experience.
