Dick Cavett has been nominated for eleven Emmy awards (the most recent in 2012 for the HBO special, Mel Brooks and Dick Cavett Together Again), and won three. Spanning five decades, Dick Cavett’s television career has defined excellence in the interview format. He started at ABC in 1968, and also enjoyed success on PBS, USA, and CNBC.
His most recent television successes were the September 2014 PBS special, Dick Cavett’s Watergate, followed April 2015 by Dick Cavett’s Vietnam. He has appeared in movies, tv specials, tv commercials, and several Broadway plays. He starred in an off-Broadway production ofHellman v. McCarthy in 2014 and reprised the role at Theatre 40 in LA February 2015.
Cavett has published four books beginning with Cavett (1974) and Eye on Cavett (1983), co-authored with Christopher Porterfield. His two recent books -- Talk Show: Confrontations, Pointed Commentary, and Off-Screen Secrets (2010) and Brief Encounters: Conversations, Magic moments, and Assorted Hijinks(October 2014) are both collections of his online opinion column, written for The New York Times since 2007. Additionally, he has written for The New Yorker, TV Guide, Vanity Fair, and elsewhere.

That 1972 tour was one of the greatest of all time in rock history. Tickets were $6.50. * This interview was before the final show at Madison Square Garden and was Jagger's 29th birthday. A great concert movie came out of that tour. It's titled, "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Rolling Stones." They were introduced as "The greatest rock and roll band in the world" and lived up to it. * EDIT:"$6.50." Originally I said tickets were $5 and $5.50. I was wrong. Much appreciation to @randellfriedman, below, for the correction, which I also found on page 13 of Robert Greenfield's "STP,"

@@randellfriedman The most expensive 1970s concert tickets were Rolling Stones , Elton John and Led Zeppelin. Truthfully in 1972 $6.50 was pretty high for a ticket!! Thus, The Stones MUST have been the first band with $10.00 ticket prices by ... 1975 ? Maybe ?

This was about the time he was one of the oldest Rockers at about 30. He talks about how his audience has matured as he moves into his second generation of performing. He knows exactly who he is and what he is going to do for the rest of his life. Sure, his ego is big. Look where it got him...

The Stones are totally legendary, but I must say, to this day, I've never become a big fan of them. The closet I came was with "I'm just waiting on a friend" when I was in HS. Other than that, they were just to raw for me. It's amazing that they're still keeping the flame of the '60's lit. When just one passes on, that'll really blow it out.

Oh my gosh, I did really like them and saw them as a Freshman in High School at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. Waiting on a Friend though is such a special song and honors friendship in a really tender way.

@@josephconsoli4128 Yes I call it the invisible age but my youngest son is so sweet. He says, "No Mom, people at 50ish are based - they've lived and pretty much have all the answers. It's younger ppl who are based that know it." That's sweet, I think. Btw, "based" is like the ultimate compliment - like you're grounded with knowledge and morals. Lots of the new counter culture (conservative youth) use it.😊
