following these steps, and using the "advanced troubleshooting" option in Diagnostic Link, I am to the part for the Low Temp ATD test with the doser electronically unplugged. Throughout this test, my Inlet NOx sensor stayed between 185ppm and 205ppm. My outlet NOx sensor drifted. Starting from 155ppm to 160ppm half way through. Then it dropped to 10 (ten) and slowly came back up to within 50ppm of the inlet sensor. Would it be a better bet to replace the outlet NOx sensor first?

The solution to this mess for all O.O. is to buy a new truck and let the warranty pay for it. Once warranty is over resale the truck and keep buying new with option to sale. Or lease. Then they'll have a shitload of raggedy trucks sitting on for sale truck lots with noone to buy. No need to keep wasting money on a system that carries this many issues. Last but not least they create the problem and have no solution but truckers pay for it. Cut out the game. Railroad industry is owned by government so they won't bill the government for faulty systems created by the government. It's all a game to stick it to the little man. Big business doesn't have this problem because they max out the warranty then sale. Don't buy a truck without warranty. Don't buy a truck with high mileage. Then you'll see millions of trucks sitting on truck lots and salesmen salivating to get that garbage sold. Then the epa will come up with a better solution and stop scamming small businesses. Then they'll come with another money making solution and truck drivers will eventually quit, protest, or find a way to override the garbage. Freightliner can't even fix the problem with their trucks. They always scream it's the one box. Notice this part costs $14000 to replace. They only want to change the one box. It's like their trained to say it's the one box everywhere you go.

So replace the one box??….that isn’t necessarily correct. I have a 2014 western star dd13 with 350,000 miles. Derated all the way to 5mph. Freightliner went through troubleshooting process and tried to sell me a one box. All pressures n temps looked good when I brought it home so, I ran the face plug cleaning regen(took 4hrs 35 min) and it completed and passed. After that, i ran the parked regen nox conversion efficiency test and it passed as well. All codes cleared and truck was ready to go. Ran 3 drive cycles of more than 30mph for at least a mile for each cycle and that cleared all of the permanent non active codes from the ecm. Hope this helps someone else.

What if the producer and distributor of fuel are to blame? My DD15 OneBox shows this code for two years, it shows up and disappears without any major consequences for the engine operation. However, in my opinion this is related to the quality of diesel (biodiesel blend). Detroit recommends using bio blends up to 5% without damaging the engine. Today, producers and distributors sell 5-20% biodiesel, without the possibility of verification from the consumer. It is impossible to buy a clean diesel without bio admixture in truckstop wide distribution. Does TheDieseler also think that diesel can cause the code that keeps coming back?
@TheDieseler6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what effect high amounts of bio diesel would have on the scr system but I have heard of problems occurring at the engine level from it (Filtration and injector problems, etc). I'm sure it could be a possibility though. Repeated, short occurrences of this code can sometimes be caused by DEF buildup in the system. An "awning" may help with this.
@kovanecky6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I installed "awning" a year ago, after that, new sensors and filters. I have also buying DEF only the best in market, in jug not in pump. But nothing help, only suggestion I have from technicians is to buy new OneBox ..... +/- $10K :)

I keep asking this question and to date not a single mechanic has even responded. What is the difference in: Passive regen Parked regen Forced regen When one won’t work the next level may… so what is happening that’s different?
@TheDieseler Жыл бұрын
A passive Regen occurs over the road when natural engine/exhaust conditions are correct to burn off Soot. This happens in the background without any warning lights, etc An Active Regen occurs over the road when exhaust temps are not naturally hot enough to burn off Soot but Soot build up in the DPF is high enough that a Regen is needed. Raw fuel is injected into the exhaust to start the reaction and raise temps. This happens in the background without any warning lights, etc. A forced or parked Regen is exactly what it sounds like. Normal operation and duty cycle (Or a problem in the system) has not allowed normal Regens to occur and the operator begins to be warned that a parked Regen will soon be required if conditions for an active or passive Regen are not soon met. Once the warnings progress far enough, Active Regens are disabled and power and speed derates prevent passive. Parked is the only option. If soot loads get too high, parked Regens will also abort.
@raywebb8215 Жыл бұрын
But what is happening that is different ? Why is a forced regen able to clear a problem that passive or parked regen won’t?

@TheDieseler4 жыл бұрын
"Would it be a good idea just to put the screen..?" If you're not seeing an issue with the system, but had the 1Box opened up anyway (Ex: For filter Maintenance), then yes, I would say installing it would be a good idea. "if there's too much DEF, Does that mean the injector is injecting too much" Not necessarily. The system can be doing everything correct but sometimes the duty cycle that the engine is running combines with weather and other factors can still cause DEF build up.

@twopointoh237 жыл бұрын
The advance diag for this code isn't accurate. most times it wont lead you to a failed one box. The low temp regen and high temp regen doesn't do a complete regen using advance diag. So when you compare the Numbers using the chart, it could be misleading due to the fact the regen didn't go through the full cycle. Use psl and *know the temps and pmm* which was .mentioned in the vid.

@twopointoh237 жыл бұрын
They aren't test. When you do a regen or a low temp regen as part of a diag step, you need to know what the temps and nox (ppm) should range at. If you don't know the numbers, it is useless.
@justrucking38157 жыл бұрын
Let me explain in trucking terms what this video means. Your trucks down for who knows how long. You better have a boat load of money to try and keep this crap working. You need to have nerves of steel to put up with trucks check engine light always coming on and wanting to regen. If your a owner operator this system will most likely be the nail in the coffin of your trucking business. If your serious about trying to make living in trucking business buy the oldest truck you can find pre egr and pre def. The reason these new trucks with their def systems are so good for the atmosphere is because most of them spend more time at repair shop with engine off in parking lot than they do moving freight. That’s the way I see it.

Higher PPM on outlet than the Inlet nox sensor ? What could be the problem?
@ToobxSox5 жыл бұрын
Run a low temp atd to verify for sure that the nox sensors stay within 32 ppm of one another. If you aren’t looking at the last 10 minutes of a regen you won’t get accurate nox sensor readings until then. The inlet sensor doesn’t begin reading until after the last 10 minutes

Hello. I have a few questions: When running the low temp regen and the nox sensors are not within 50 ppm of one another, the PSL states to replace the outlet nox sensor first. Why is it recommended to replace the outlet nox sensor first? Is there documentation supporting changing the nox sensor that is indicating drift i.e., if the inlet nox sensor is indicating drift, change it first as opposed to the outlet nox sensor)? If the inlet nox sensor is replaced first instead of the outlet nox sendor, can that mask a faulty outlet nox sensor? Can it bring the nox sensors to within 50 ppm of one another even though the outlet nox sensor is faulty, and leading the trouble shooting process to a replacement of the one box? Is there documentation that supports replacement of the one box without first replacement of the nox sensors in the order indicated in the PSL (outlet nox sensor first, then inlet nox sensor)? Finally, can a faulty nox sensor (inlet and/or outlet) cause progressive damage to the one box? Thank you.
@TheDieseler6 жыл бұрын
Personally, I've seen a lot more Outlet sensors fail over the years so I think that may be why they lead you in that direction. But, I always watch their readings. If the inlet is obviously drifted, I will replace it first. I don't believe faulty NOX sensors will damage the 1Box but I have seen them contribute to DEF buildup inside of it.
@brunoaltimino6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for responding. So the sequence of events proceeded as follows: The shop replaced the inlet nox sensor first. Then the one box was replaced. Then the outlet nox sensor was showing to be unstable and was replaced (tech claims that the outlet nox sensor was damaged in removing it from the old one box, causing it to malfunction). The cause of failure step was not performed. I want to know your opinion as to whether this was a proper diagnosis of a one box failure (SCR inlet and outlet temps tested to be within 20 degrees of one another). Thank you.
@TheDieseler6 жыл бұрын
Without seeing log files of the troubleshooting, it's really a tough call to make. Damaging a sensor upon removal is very possible but it's typically the threaded section that takes the damage. USUALLY, if it's able to be installed in the new 1Box, it should work as well as it once did. There are a lot of variables at play. The age of the vehicle and it's history of overheating the Aftertreatment system can also play big parts.
@brunoaltimino6 жыл бұрын
TheDieseler let me just put it this way: If it was your truck, and knowing that replacing the 1 box will cost $9100, wouldn't you want the nox sensors replaced first as specified in the Power Service Literature?
@TheDieseler6 жыл бұрын
Well...It would certainly be worth a shot. I would explain the situation to the customer and explain that they’re reading as they should. Replacing them would have to be their call before going ahead with the 1Box.

Or do what everybody else does, install a out nox sensor on the out side of box in an area it will get hot . Let it smell clean fresh air, and bam your nox evfiency will go to 100 percent. No more derate. Once the dumb manifacturers make 1 boxes affordable, the mass public will stop with all the bypassing of the emission systems. There are more bypassed trucks on the road than compliant trucks. Theres not 1 fucking person going to pay 12k for a fucken 1 box. Not one.
