Good review..... Here's my 2 cents regarding smart watches. I would want a minimum of 1 week battery life, simple, fast charging with a micro USB cable, OLED display and a price closer to $100 than $300. However, I could get more excited if the watch face had some charging capability similar to some of the Casio G-Shock watches. I expect the smart watches in the next 1-2 years will make all the present ones look like antiques.

Pros of Sony smartwatch 3: Integrated GPS* -That allows the watch to track location on its own, without having to be connected to a phone. Able to find a location on the street to a restaurant without having to pull your phone out of your pocket WiFi & NFC* - (Android Wear does not support WiFi function currently. ) -NFC payment systems available once android is updated Transflective screen - able to see best in sunlight/outdoor, less trouble with outdoor viewing than any other watch Low power screen -low-power mode is as effective as like e-ink, fully readable in sunlight, and uses almost no energy since it uses no backlight. Very useful for watch to last longer USB charging port - convenient to charge anywhere as special dock isn't required, and since mirco usb is very common and do not need to carry the dock around if you have a portable changer Larger and sqaure screen - able to see more if notification of sms or email is long, screen won't be cut off Built in music player -able to listen to music if connected to Bluetooth headset without a need of connecting with your phone, hence able to go for outdoor jogging without having the need to bring a bulky phone Cheap - one of the cheapest smartwatch Battery life -largest battery life of 420mAh, hence able to last longer with is essential for all smartwatch as whats a smartwatch without any battery? IP68 rating -waterproof and dust resistant (compared to other IP67 rating smartwatch, it is actually not a big difference) 1.2 ghz quad core processor -fast with great using experience without any lags * Sony SmartWatch 3 has a lot of untapped potential. Currently, its most exciting features are either poorly supported (GPS), or not supported at all (WiFi, NFC). If/when Google releases a new version of the OS to enable all its features, and more fitness apps get updated to take advantage of the built-in GPS, this might become the best Android Wear device money can buy. The watch has to be tethered to a phone which already has gps to work so it's not necessary. If it was a stand alone device like the gear s then gps would be necessary.

i keep finding comments complaining about 2 days of battery life,why does it have to be more? i mean its not like you are gonna wear the watch while sleeping,so you could as well charge it

I don't know how many of your videos I would need to watch. But I did subscribe simply because I love eso non bias this review was. Most tech reviews you can tell within 10 seconds which one they will say is better. You did a great job pointing out the strong points of both devices. I would have liked to maybe see you use the devices in a recording, and simply voice over the comparison later. That would help you to be less fidgety as well as the visual of the video more entertaining. All in all great video.

I'm curious to see if any of these round watches work well with the large text setting. That's why I chose the sony SR3. It's a lovely watch and I can live with the slightly poorer screen. Wish android wear would have a white on black setting (they seem to ignore any of my questions) without inverting all colours. I think it would make the watch easier to see at night.

The Sony SW3 has GPS and NFC - both important IMHO esp for joggers and shoppers. The new Android wear will turn the Sony into a standalone Satnav and when Google Wallet crosses the Atlantic you can leave your wallet at home with the Sony as it has NFC. Personally, I bought the original Pebble and now the Sony SW3

It seems the LG G Watch R is a good choice, though I would have preferred a more minimalistic design. You can't have everything, I guess.

I wish the LG watch R had GPS, as a runner that's more important to me then heart rate. Have you tried the GPS on the Sony 3? I haven't seen any reviews that talk about the GPS function.
@eflat8810 жыл бұрын
As a fellow runner, I feel your pain. I have been pretty excited about having a gps watch that will stream music via Bluetooth without my phone. The folks at xda developers forums have a few treads talking about the gps function. It sounds like it works but not quite as good as a "real" gps watch (Nike +, Garmin, etc). Don't think it displays pace or splits. Only uses Google's fitness app (that could change with an update). Accuracy was questioned, but tbd. I'm thinking about wearing two watches... better than strapping the Note 4 to my arm on those long runs!

Eflat It depends on the apps being used. The Google MyTracks app supports already Android Wear and works on the Sony SmartWatch. With that app you have a complete GPS logging experience without having to carry your phone. On the androidwear subreddit some people posted there experience with it. The GPS in the watch is only being used if you don't carry the smartphone with you - otherwise it uses the gps in the phone to save battery. Someone said that a 50minute run uses about 20% battery if you use just the watch - sounds fine to me. It would be nice if someone would make a specific video about this feature.
@eflat8810 жыл бұрын
+Leif Sikorski, I'll check out the androidware subreddit. Do you know if the watch supports other fitness trackers like mapmyrun or Nike +. Those apps will give you more information than just distance like pace during the run. My understanding is that at this point the watch doesn't support these third-party apps but could through some sort of software update. If that is the case, I will need my gps watch for the pace while I'm running and sw3 for music. With as much power under the hood, I think a lot of features can be unlocked through simple software updates.

The LG Watch R looks cool, & may overcome the geek barrier, getting fashion conscious to buy. On looks I'm considering it. However, I haven't seen many, apart from Tony DeMore on this thread, make the comparision with traditional ABC watches, active wear watches that have been around for a long time. Why this marketing obsession with "smart watch"? Force feed us when the product is ready, or actually listen to what people want. Watches are perfect form & functionality, the balance depends on the owner's needs. You can buy standalone Casio/Suunto ABC watches or wearable PCs that do not require pairing with a phone. In the field, their power lasts significantly much longer than the paltry 1 or 2 days these so called new "smart watches" provide. Always on screens, durability etc.The LG is almost there ergonomically with 46.4 x 53.6 x 9.7mm, 62g; vs Casio ECW-M300EDB-1AER 50,70mm x 48,40mm x 13,30mm 189g; vs Suunti Core 49.1x49.1x14.5 mm Weight 64g. So *decent* solid ABC sensors, at least 1 WEEK battery life (solar power?), maybe GPS or NFC, will make this a winner IMO.

You had tested the voice google now with LG but not on Sony 3? When making comparison, you should had tested both on it. It seems that you are making heavier side with LG G watch. Should have done all tests on both watches rather than one. You didn't mentioned that LG G has no GPS on board but Sony 3 has. You kept touching LG G got heart rate monitor while Sony doesn't.

Again, rushing this garbage out is keeping with the Android mindset that first somehow is important. No one cares if you are first. Android Wear is alpha trash software. Beta at best.
