Sony SmartWatch 3 Update and Review

I have watched a shitload of reviews on the Sony smartwatch 3 and this is by far the most clear and informative I have seen. I wish I had watched this one first instead of ploughing through all that dross. Cheers pal!

Good information, but you kind of lost me when you said the LG R watch was the most beautiful on the market. Functionality wise, I think this beats the Moto 360, but the Moto 360 is almost universally heralded as the most beautiful of the bunch. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the LG R just looks like an old 90s watch. That being said, I'm torn between the Moto 360 and the Sony. I've heard this thing is a dust magnet (thank goodness for that IP68 rating!) thanks to the rubber wristband, but the longer battery and GPS give it an edge. I guess I'll wait a little longer to see more reviews come in.

Really appreciated your coverage of this watch. At the moment, I'm seriously considering buying the Asus ZenWatch. (It will be my first smartwatch because I finally feel that smart watches have matured enough to be taken seriously.) The ZenWatch seems to even upstage the Sony Smartwatch 3. I wasn't sure if smart watches only paired with phones from the same manufacturer so your showing the Sony with your Note4 helped clear that up. My Note3 is currently on Android 4.4.2 and i hear that the ZenWatch has "limited compatibility." If you cover that watch in a video, I'd like to hear what the compatibility issues are and cover all the features you mention in this video: voice recognition, screen scrolling and responsiveness, charging time & options, etc. Thanks.

It's actually more attractive than the other smartwatches. Especially the white version. It is sleek and modern.

If you're using a smartphone with ANT+ (a lot of Xperias have included this since 2012) you can get a Garmin/Polar/other heart rate strap for HR info. No need for HR sensor on the watch :)

Just a small note; anyone creating an Android Wear device is required to keep it stock without skins. Of course, they're given liberty to make watch faces, but nothing extra.

Used it for the first time today using Runkeeper. No issues at all. Picked up the GPS fine, no "misses" while on the run. Also used Jaybird X BT headphones for the first time. All good. I think Endomondo, iFit and others work now too. Didn't take my phone to track but might next time as well as my Garmin 620 just to see how they all compare.

Hey, I got my sony smw3 recently, but I have a problem, the voice command *ok google" never works. Always it say no connection, I tried setup and reset many times, but still dosent work. Any suggestions?

I like your review. I currently own the Smart Watch 2 and am thinking of upgrading to the 3! have you owned the Smart Watch 2? How does the design compare? Because the unit of the 2 comes out so easily which isn't suppose to happen.

Very nice review....maybe you could have touched on bluetooth pairing with headphones. It seems to me the killer part of this watch is the stand alone features that make it a great fitness gadget. Transflective screen with gps with mp3 playback...I am in heaven!

I'm glad you brought that up. I was totally unaware of that feature. I'm thinking of getting a bigger phone and taking it to the gym is huge issue, If I'm going to go that route. This watch could address that issue.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and an Iphone 6. I heard that as long as your android device has at least Android 4.3 you can use it on the Sony Smartwatch 3. Anyone know if that's true?

Have you tried it with swimming? I believe it is the only one currently you are able to swim with because of it ipx680 rating.

I wish companies would be honest about storage space. This watch has 2.6gb storage in reality which is 1.4 less than the 4gb stated on the specs. I know technically it has 4gb but when looking at it for storing songs this info is important to note.

I just bought one one the google play store with the 50$ discount and 50$ google play credit promo. I think it was a good choice. I returned the moto 360 because it was too expensive and I couldn't wear it to the gym (far too delicate) I'll b looking forward to testing this out for sure.

I just got the watch this week.I transferred my google play music onto it, hooked up some blue-tooth headphones and went on a nice run with it. I have a question. Is there a way to make playlists on the watch? I could not figure this out! I don't think there is a way...but am hopeful!

the reason why this smart watch shines, is b/c of the GPS. people are not realizing how important this is for fitness customers. you DO NOT NEED YOUR PHONE when going on bike rides or runs to log GPS data. this is the only Smart Watch that does this with exception to the Garmin ones, but those aren't smart watches really

The clasp isn't very strong. If you bang your wrist the watch has a tendency to fly open. If your doing D.I.Y or sport this isn't going to stay on your wrist.
