The image with the two Tupandyctalus flying near the Argie made me wonder if sauropods used to just bite birds out of the sky. I know they’re herbivores, but any animal will eat anything if there’s a lack of that nutrient in the area. There’s even a video of a deer eating a bird on Uotubr that perfectly shows my point. No animal is truly herbivorous or carnivorous until they get too hungry. I think they should add that into survival games.

In paleontology, size is usually measured by stuff like weight and raw mass since the vastly different body plans of creatures make height and weight unreliable. This means that at 80 tons, argentinosaurus is the biggest but not the longest or tallest.

One thing that we should consider is, although these creatures grew to very large sizes, the material that they were made out of bone was literally the same matrix of glycine, cartilage, and various protein molecules with trace minerals of calcium, strontium as creatures today. This means that the gravitational potential of the earth during the age of giant dinosaurs was far different than it is today. Is this the reason why they grew so big and that something more than an asteroid impact that has been hypothesized spelled their end?
@ghartuckt663
@ghartuckt663 3 ай бұрын
Could it be that Earth's gravity was different during dinosaur times, explaining the size of some of them? No, the gravity of Earth is determined by the mass of Earth, and Earth's mass has not changed much at all in the last 4.5 billion years.

@@mahomedwaseemkamal4968 Keep in mind that fruit trees and palm trees are much smaller than redwoods. some predominant trees in the Jurassic and part of the Argentine Cretaceous. The redwoods grew and the sauropods tried to reach them. The same as giants giraffids, only the trees are much smaller. It is better for flowering trees to be eaten, so they spread better. Now there are more trees with flowers since they grow faster than those without. and the palm trees are giant ferns. the first large carnivores evolving chasing sauropods. The tyrannosaurids began at the end of the Jurassic, chasing the first ceratopsids and hadrosaurs and the spinosaurus is a rare case for hunting giant river fish.

@mahomedwaseemkamal4968 Ай бұрын
@carnogamerx good point. Absolutely agree. Agian, as trees are a living being developed through millions of generations to what they remain currently. Still doesn't explain the huge size difference. Food is 1 thing. The fact that could support that bulk on a moving, mating, eating, laying eggs or birthing. This is done at a gigantic size. Our current discovery is less than 5% or 10%, the number of species that were probably alive. Look, I know it is pure speculation. They had a huge gap in size. Still, it's weird, really weird. There are so many possibilities. Lower atmospheric pressure could have also been a thing. There is too much volcanic activity at that point. Planetary Tilt could have also been different. To be honest, we don't know enough.

It's amazing, take an Indo-Pacific Saltwater Crocodile, as a baby they're adorable and harmless. You'd never guess by age 50 it would be a male 18" length weighing over 1k LBS with a 3,700PSI Biteforce, incredibly aggressive, territorial even amongst eachother, and one of the few animals alive on the planet I will comfortably call a maneater. I'd go so far to say I'd rather be in the water with a Great White than a Salty Croc anyday for the Salty Croc is a guarantee it will try you, it will move on you, White Shark may and more often than not leave you alone. I'll also say if one grabs you on land you're likely not going to be free of it but if it gets you in water, you're guaranteed a goner. Point is as babies they're adorable, tiny and harmless sharp teeth aside, and as an adult they're one of if not the most formidable Predator on the planet that doesn't think twice feeding off of a man. That said, they're one of the few animals that lived with dinosaurs and have been unchanged since the dinosaur age due to being a design nature got right and kept, no need to fix what isn't broken, a true survivor the Saltwater Crocodile.

T-rex = 10+ tons Argentinosaurus = 80+ tons The size difference is so big, I don't think even a pack of mapusaurus would be enough, it would take atleast 3 - 5 T-rex to even beat this gigantic hell of a dinosaur

Getting more karge carnivores wouldn't maje the fight more faur. Get 20 unarmerd guys versus one gorilla and youre ending up with 20 bodies. Numbers don't always equal strength, especially when theres really nit mush you can do. Tyrannosaurus can't do anything against argentinosaurus without dying, and all of its friends will either back off afterwards or meet the same fate
@sweethomealabama4381
@sweethomealabama4381 Жыл бұрын
@@sapphhere283 i dont think so, tyranosaurs have the strongest bite force of all dinos, and its also quite agile that allowed it to dodge some trike and anky attacks, so it could quite literally dodge a much slower sauropod, and they are smart enough to recognize what they are dealing with, with such a large dinosaur, they would hit the vital spots, and of course there would be atleast 1 - 2 baits, sauropods move slowly so rexes can definitely dodge, but if the argentinosaurus managed to injure likely kill 1 or 2 out of 5, they be retreating, even with such a bite force, its not gonna be easy to kill a walking 80 ton muscle, they may even come with larger numbers than 5 to deal with it better, since the tails is also dangerous
@sapphhere283
@sapphhere283 Жыл бұрын
@@sweethomealabama4381 Tyrannosaurs are made to crush though, not slice. They also aren't terribly fast themselves, and every new study seems to make them slower and slower. Bite force doesn't mean a lot against an animal 8 times your size. If all animals had a set health bar like in video games that would be different, but sadly they don't. We have no evidence that tyrannosaurus would be a pack hunters at all, much less if it had the intelligence to pull off such a maneuver. I agree that they would likely retreat, but herbivores aren't sweethearts. That thing will chase them until it gets to them. It's also important to remember that Tyrannosaurus would never even consider this as a prey source. If you buff the intelligence and boldness of any large dinosaur it could theoretically kill a sauropod. Carcharadontosaurids would be more suited for the challenge, seeing how their teeth are meant to cut. Tyrannosaurs were a bad example with worse evidence
@sweethomealabama4381
@sweethomealabama4381 Жыл бұрын
@@sapphhere283 yeah but the crushing bite force is definitely enough to hurt even the largest walking muscles, and yeah even though rex are quite slow themselves, argentinosaurus are going to be slower even being a quadruped, and yeah they most of the time team up if they see each other targeting the same meal large enough to sustain both of them, so rexes arent foolish to not pick up a team to kill something, but as far as it goes, targetting argentinosaurus is highly unlikely, with the fact that rexes are smart enough to not mess with the stronger dinosaurs, them picking a fight to such a sauropod is highly unlikely, unless there are many of them and they are super hungry and theres 10 of them, they would likely face the largest walking animal in history despite of consequences, since you are not you when your hungry, even if they know theres consequences, they fight or die of starvation
@sapphhere283
@sapphhere283 Жыл бұрын
@@sweethomealabama4381 the crushing bite won't do anything that slicing teeth will not. The shape of the teeth and the strength of the bite imply that it hunted by targeting weak points of large prey. Most of Tyrannosaurus' prey was larger than them, but they were still able to look them in the eye. Biting onto and crushing areas like the neck or spine would have been an effective way to bring down larger prey. When the prey is so large that you can't reach it's neck or spine, and so bulky that you can't fit your mouth around it, a crushing bite is suddenly much less cool. Also, don't just claim that Tyrannosaurs would always team up if they saw eachother. They were giant predators who needed lots of food to sustain themselves. If they're around others not only can still they not guarantee the success of a hunt, but one body would not feed them all. And it isn't as easy as just hunting more prey (in the fossil record there are much tyrannosaurus who were dead or wounded after a fight with prey than there is prey who was killed or wounded by it. Death can be inferred by unhealed injuries, and injured but survived can be inferred by partially healed injuries) we also have no idea how intelligent they were.

The size of this dinosaur was estimated in the 1800’s based on very very few fossils that we don’t have anymore. It was probably overestimated a lot. And it was never mentioned that he’d be 60 meters tall, but rather 60 meters in length

Great video as usual correct me if I'm wrong land mammals don't get as big ass dinosaurs do to us mammals not having internal air sacks like dinos right? Cause the biggest mammal land predator was Andrewsarchus and the biggest herbivore I think was either Parcertherium or Paliolocsodon

Whats amazing is the massive difference in size of adult and juviniles, still the adults manages not to crush the little ones.

Probably, but none that we have record of. Most animals are pretty sure footed, which is why it's not super common for elephants or rhinos to trample their own kids.
