I think most people who are versed on the subject, know that elephants are MUCH older than mammoths, and mammoths evolved from elephants. But what a lot of people assume, is that mammoths were the largest of the elephant family. And this has mostly to do with the name "mammoth", and the way they have been portrayed in modern popular culture. Now some mammoths species were larger than modern elephants, like the Steppe Mammoth. But most of them were similar sized, or smaller than modern elephant species. But the largest proboscideans to ever live were elephants, not mammoths. Species like the Straight Tusked Elephant(s), were arguably the largest mammals to EVER walk the Earth, only rivaled or exceeded in size by Paraceratherium(hornless rhinos). And various other prehistoric elephant species were also larger than the largest mammoths.

Green anaconda (eunectes murinus) it reaches in the wild a maximum of 4~5 meters (female, males are half this size). The most an Anaconda has ever reached is 5.25 meters. And the expert on Anaconda was Jesus Rivas, and it was he who made such a record. If you want to use it for size, I recommend the reticulated python (Python reticulatus or Malayopython reticulatus), its length usually varies between 5 to 7 meters, while its weight varies from 1 kg to 158 kg, being considered the largest native snake in Asia. The largest of this species was 7.62 meters with 158 kg, and this one was called "Medusa". Anaconda is the largest in weight and length, Python is in length.

friend, here in brazil, finding anacondas (sucuri) of 7 or 8 meters is somehow normal.
@franklincastelo Жыл бұрын
@@jeyelsilva8700 Cara, aí não. Estou estudando biologia.

You got the reticulated python and anaconda sizes mixed up. Retics have gotten 33 feet long, whereas anacondas max out at about 25. You also gave the retic a ball python color pattern
@Lucas_Tulic2 жыл бұрын
Green anacondas can grow up to 9 meters long, weigh more than 250 kilograms, and measure more than 30 centimeters in diameter. The longest recorded reticulated python was discovered in 1912 and measured 10 meters long, but nowadays they only measure 6.5-7 meters long.

@@Lucas_Tulic that is inline with what I said, I am well aware green anacondas are the heaviest and what the biggest none was.
@Lucas_Tulic2 жыл бұрын
@@Rryan8065 No, you said the largest ever found was 8 meters long, and I corrected you. I said 'up to 9 meters', and the largest found (so far) was 8.5 meters, so, pretty close to 9 meters! The point is, pythons are smaller than anacondas.
@authorkylerkuehler13802 жыл бұрын
There are actually a few inaccuracies on this list. This list only goes by length rather than full size because a grizzly bear is a much larger than where it lands on this list. They can actually get up to ten feet with many recordings of them growing larger and weighing well over a thousand pounds making them much larger not only to zebras but to lions and tigers as well. Also, a mosasaur is not that big, Megalodon was much bigger than a mosasaur.
@kensenior820 Жыл бұрын
Reticulated pythons are longer than Anacondas, but not heavier. The picture they used for the reticulated python is much closer to a ball python than a reticulated python because the eyes were solid black.

I checked GPT4 about the giant worm, apparently being on the bottom on the sea helps it to find more food, long worms can survive longer too and it helps them to keep support on the floor. Apparently it can be cut and survive if the main organs aren't broken, but it's unclear, some can regenerate some parts, others can't. They have the ability to grow all their life with a record of 10 years. It means the biggest worm grew about 0.82cm every day during 10 years. Which isn't that much considering some plants can grow way faster than that. But for an human it's 0,027cm per day, so this worm grow 30x faster than us. Ouch. I didn't check the math ofc.

great video! the 3D animations are really impressive and provide a clear perspective on size comparisons. however, i can't help but feel that some of the representations might be misleading - for example, the sizes of certain animals like the blue whale vs. the elephant seem exaggerated in a way that could skew people's understanding of scales in nature. what do you think?

@spinynorman887 Жыл бұрын
"extend themselves to well beyond their actual size"? That phrase doesn't make anywhere NEAR the sense of "extend themselves to well beyond their usual size". Because if they extend their size to 180 feet, then at that time 180 feet becomes their actual size, temporarily. The size may not be permanent, but it IS actual, as opposed to illusion.
