IKR, I am fine out of the house, I feel like the ole me, but once I step in my home I don't even bother turning on the lights. I am pathetic I think, I take naps and call people to express all sides of my emotional state and the hurdles life throws me. There are many like us. Those guardian angels have something up their sleeve, I have a good idea what it is. Also, have accepted death (unusual, but comforting) and left momentos and letters attached to items I have now.

I’m an RN - 58 yrs old & was bitten by a patient, pushed into a wall & had surgery to my hand & has slipped discs in my lower spine & neck as a result- I applied without a lawyer, got approved in one month & had my check literally the next month- my MD said that was almost unheard of and a blessing from God- I still have to have therapy and ongoing injections in my back & neck - I pray for all of you to be blessed with the financial help & get approved- we all work very hard & if we need help we should get it🙏🏽

I have a dear friend that lives with a spinal cord nerve injury; she was approved quickly with her first application. Years later SSD has come back and said she should never have been approved without a hearing (that’s not her fault) and hit her with back pay as well as stopping her benefit. When finally at a hearing (after all the 2020 mess and they started back up again) she was told her original doctor “didn’t keep adequate records at the time” and she would no longer qualify until she has new work experience. OUR SYSTEM IS BROKEN!

I’ve been on state disability since Nov 2023 and was on SSDI from 2008-2015 for same conditions. I’m a single parent and my 16 year old also has bipolar and autism. My state disability claim ends Nov 2024. I doubt I’ll get approved for SSDI now, although I was approved within 3 months the first time. Maybe that will factor in now. I’m 54 now.

You sir have a lot more wrong with you than I do it took me 4 years to win my S.S.D.I. case so i'd say don't sweat it I was denied more times than I can remember but I got it I ended up going before a Federal Judge who had the final word he made the decision alone my Lawyer told me after going before the Judge that it really came down to one question the Judge asked he asked me in the past year how many times did I have to go to the E.R. I said at least 50 they had my girlfriend come in and the Judge asked her the same question she said at least 50 case won. it sucked it took so long but they had to pay back from day one that I applied if you are doing it alone I suggest getting a Lawyer there is a set amount the Lawyer can collect and it was $4500 but well worth it with a lawyer no stress on you Good Luck.

There is no need for the cry baby stuff with the SSA, they don't give a damn. The rules are cut and dry. If you say you can't they have to prove you can, and they can't,.

I suffered from sudden fainting spells, the SSA said was panic attacks, that did not prevent me from going to work. They are right, it did not. However smoking 40 years began to prevent the use of a respirator required to use my trade skills to make a living with safely. I am to old to learn a new TRADE, so I automatically qualified on that basis. The SSA didn't give a damn about anything else wrong with me.

This is terrible advice. Being denied several times is a part of the process. Having a lawyer significantly increases your chances of winning your case. Your previous denials all included paperwork and a track record of appointments and such that helped prove what you wrote on your successful paperwork. It doesn’t exist in a vacuum and trust me, without the lawyers ever having had been involved, your chance would have been so much lower.

Have copies of your medical records in _your_ possession, not just at your doctor's office, so you won't have to even contact your doctor to get access to a record or document. Have paper copies, but also save copies in your e-mail, on flashdrives _and_ cloud. That way, you don't run the risk of losing your only copy of a record.

All my docs except my rheumatologist are local so I generally am able to access my records pretty quickly. I wonder if there's a way to share MyChart/Epic records if necessary, as I do have that for my rheum? I'm currently going through a CDR in order to switch from SSI to DAC and it's definitely nerve wracking to deal with even after all these years 😅

A lot of the programs like free phones(ACP program), half off of things like Amazon prime and Walmart plus and some of the others are a lot easier to get if you are on SSI or have a food stamp card. You can still get them if you provide proof of income but it's a lot easier with an EBT card or if you are on some type of government assistance program.

Facts! My friends mom is disable, and she said to make sure you go to ALL your doctor's appts, follow all doctor's orders, AND get all medications filled. They can pull your file at anytime and if they see you are getting "treatment" for your condition. If not, they can drop you!

I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2012 and while the cancer was painful, the UTI's were far more painful than anything I have experienced in my life. I am feeling better now. Could you ask your doctor if they thought it would help and what your limitations are? Then just work within those? I tried physical therapy to see if I could try exercising, it was bad and made me more sick. They pushed too hard too fast. That was a fail.

SSDI automatically converts to SSA retirement at the same base amount when you reach full retirement age. IIRC, offsets for WC benefits cease when you switch over to retirement and you're no longer subject to periodic medical review.

Um...I am actually excited about this opening chapter in my life. I lost a good job, got a new one with promotion, had a stroke and on top of all my injuries and handicaps was persued by Dis/SSI. I am a strong man, but I struggle. In my life I taught myself how to craft, sew and draw. I am resourceful, at opportunities I bought a window washing kit, pro-carpet shampooer, and kept a vehicle. I volunteered in the city on a regular schedule, even shampooed carpets in my group home(s). This was before my stroke but after the injuries, now they often show their dark side with the stroke. I also finally feel I am sober, I am not sure about retaining my disibility due to my "hero mentality" I am sure I will need routine profession help to keep me realistic. Thank you

@@emiledarga9313 It's been horrendous. In 2022 I caught a terrible case of Lyme disease plus whatever else the ticks carried. Covered in rashes. Doctors suggested that every rash was a tick bite after seeing the pictures. It set off (what the doctors are saying) a rippling effect of an autoimmune response attacking small fiber nerves, upper motor neuron involvement, ME/CFS, and possible pancreatic problems (being explored now) as I developed reactive hypoglycemia, which could be causing even more problems. It also crashed my B12 levels, which could have even more implications. A simple 20 minute round trip walk once per month to the library causes a week long crash of severe pain, muscle problems, and a whole slew of other issues.

I broke both ankles and neither bend past 90°, i have arthritis in both ankles, knees, hips, back, had major surgery on my neck I have rods from C3 to C7 in my neck. My shoulders are going and I'm a diabetic. I've been denied. I don't want full disability I still want to work just not as much. I can barely move. I'm only 50 and have paid in since I was 17. And I'm a veteran. I can't get any help.

I'm a 100% Total and Permanent disabled veteran, didn't know about VA disability until a few years ago, recently approved at 100% - after an appeal; took about 10 years. In the interim from the onset of total disability, I had SSI with medicaid; but with enough work history to qualify for SSA retirement that I plan to start at age 62. My SSI specifies it is due to disability. Question, "do I have to apply for SSDI or is it automatic due to my SSI due to disability". Hope someone can help shine some light on this. It would be nice for the SSA to discourage companies from applying an LTD offset clause when a person obtains disability. People should get what the LTD policy has determined + disability payment, noe LTD determined amount - disability payment. The later keeps the amount from LTD the same over the duration of payment.

She knew she had it but when she applied for disability no doctor had ever put the name on it so her attorney sent her to a neurologist, got the name of the disease on the record and she got approved

I feel like ur statement about the key to being approved is to actually be disabled, is incredibly ignorant and rude. My mother was horribly brain injured by a drunk driver. She had an attorney and was denied 5 times before being approved. I have fibromyalgia and have been told that even tho I can barely function on a good day, I have a slim chance of being approved because fibromyalgia is hard to prove. Ur statement could make people think someone is faking or just lazy since the state won't recognize them as disabled. I hope u think things thru next time before u perpetuate such harmful mis-truths.

However, when I went to my hearing (I had a lawyer) there were *many* people in the room who seemed perfectly normal, laughing and joking about how they were gonna get approved, until time came for their hearing and then they were hunched over, moaning, having to hold onto someone to walk. It was ridiculous. There are a lot of fakers out there who make it harder for those of us who are truly disabled. Thankfully the judge saw that I was not faking, and granted me $1900+ a month. Granted that is based on what I put in, but as I understand it is a good amount.

Here's the dilemma I have. You used to be able to call in to social security and let the note of disability has changed. And they would adjust your benefits. I guess they have a done that for a while. And they don't do it no more. My queue has dropped down from 69 to a 53. They will not adjust it guarantees I cannot work

F us can't go put due to allergic reactions to pollution ours in Reno. We have to have air purifiers 24 7. My Federal Attorney has documents I am still very ill and my sister is very ill as well. I was hurt at work Jan 2023, they did no it get me medical treatment until May 2023. Had MRI only to find out 2 fracture metatarsal bones and arthritis. Was put on restriction of seated work only (which they do not have). I got workman’s comp from May to November then it stopped. December my work offered LTD. I just got it May 3rd back pay and the next week Monthly check…. Also in December my Attorney filed for me SSDI… PLUS..I had a Stroke in October 2023… Had to go to speech therapy, heart monitor found out I have more than one stroke in my life… So My Attorney is following up on my SSDI.. Plus I have 2 Degenerative discs in my neck and lower back…. I think I might have had another mini stroke 3 days ago cause I’m talking weird again.. My mother, older son and husband all in one week. Had me stressed out… I know with a stroke Negativity and stress is not good for you…. I’m trying to stay away from it… Hard when two of them live with you and one is your mom

In the state of Texas for SSI disability, you don’t get Medicare. It’s Medicaid only.

I have ptsd and Severe Panic Disorder. I haven’t worked in 15 years. I recently got a part time job as a cashier about 12-15 hours a week. To give me a sense of direction so I don’t get depressed. I’m making about 800 a month and I was told as long as I make under 1110 a month. I applied back in October, I have an appointment for the Disability Office on the 19th,in two weeks, I'm worried what they'll say because I'm homeless and I really need this! I'm homeless have ADD, MDD, Asthma, Schizophrenic, Lower Back issues to the point I can't stand or walk for long periods of time so I had to stop working last year and only had one job for a few mo the and prior to that job I haven't had a job since 2020 and even that job lasted only a few months and is initially where I really hurt my back even worse because it was physical labor and lifting railroad ties and all that etc.. Etc.. All my jobs only last a few mo the and I'm only in my mid 30's, my back issues did start at age 19 and progressively gotten worse since then, my ASTHE has gotten worse with super shortness of breath and I've mostly done Security as a job my whole life so far. And the walking and standing is something I cannot do and always get fired eventually, unfortunately!! And I'm not too overweight for I'm 225 for a male at 5'11" so I'm fairly normal size and wouldn't say my weight has anything to do with back issues I also can't bend down and it's hard to put socks n shoes on.. And besides all the back issues and not being able to bend and move and stand, my schizophrenic episodes freak people out which my coworkers and bosses in the past will make excuses as to why they let me go and they always lie. I've always been bullies and make fun of for it even at ALL my darn jobs. Ugh, I really should have gotten Workers Comp back in 2030 when I really hurt my back but anyways my mental health is ridiculous I get super depressed with PTSD as well as my MDD Major Depressive Dissorder! I have flashback and cry almost every night, and after I cry I get no feelings at all, I'm brainless thoughtless, have absolutely no feelings for anyone or anything, it's hard to keep relationships, and it started with seeing my mom die at age 16, gasping for air on the floor of her room... Etc.. Etc.. Etc... I'm STILL TRAUMATIZED and have PTSD from it, it constantly runs thru my mind, and all the stories my uncle used to tell me from the war with the photos he showed me as a child, also my Step Dad touched me as a child up to age 12 then stopped for some odd reason and that started at age 8 or 9 I can't remember.. I have alot of mental and physical issues.. So like is aid I have that appointment and can't wait to see if I get approved. I DO have medications for my issues and also have doctors and been to mental health clinics like a psych ward basically lol multiple times.. Anyways lol I keep going off track my mind runs and runs and runs ughh. Anyways okay so the day BEFORE my Disability appointment is an appointment that they set me up with to go get an MRI done on my back I guess to see if I'm really hurt and I really hope it shows something because I'm in constant pain!! No broken bones so maybe it's super still muscles and pinched nerves?! IDK I'm scared I hope I get approved??!... With all that nonsense being said so you or anyone else think I'll get approved??!..... Edit: I also graduated high school with an Adjusted Diploma due to my Learning Disability and being on the spectrum for tics as well!!.. Social security has been deducting 25% of my benefits since September 2023 and they know it’s an error and can’t figure out how to fix it and repay me. I kept getting the run around. I don’t know how I’m going to survive

I may be wrong but it seems like they approve illnesses that you cannot see like (PTSD), by giving the benefit of the doubt, but deny physical problems where there’s tons of proof from MRI’s etc., and no doubt people would be suffering greatly from these issues, like nerves, back issues, muscular, for example.

I don't get what youre supposed to keep going to the doctor for for the rest of your life if your disability is stable and managed by not working? I have schueremann's disease and scoliosis and my spine doctor said I should try to avoid surgery. As long as I can lay down throughout the day and I'm really really careful with my activities and not sitting long in chairs etc. the pain is controlled so that's how I manage it. I've already tried PT and many many other treatments, had probably 30 scans, xrays, so much treatment done and I feel at a dead end with it now and just managing it by limiting activities is what works. So I'm not sure what else SSA would expect me to be seeing a doctor for and to try

3 times I went to my hearing,three times the doctor who's in the hearing,all three times said I was disabled getting worse.,all three times same judge all three times came back with unfavorable decision. Why would he be doing this.

He believed you could earn Substantial Gainful Activity. You need to prove you can't.

1) do not earn more than the maximum allowed/month...anything over will be deducted from your SSDI check. 2) find people who are like minded and not going to look down on you because your life took a turn and you have no other income. 3) If you can Volunteer do it, do something that gets you out of the house on a regular basis. 4) learn how to advocate for yourself, lawyers can unethical. it took 3 years for me to get an appointment with a judge, i had contracted with a law firm, they did not do their due diligence in collecting and cataloging my medical records and 2 weeks before meeting with the judge this "reputable lawyer" dropped me as a client. 5) you have the right to see your File that is being built in the SSA office, Check every few months to make sure the SSA is getting the information.

i was on disability and got removed and appealed the appeal took 2 years and after i lost they took all the money in my bank account to the tune of 7k
